bringing characters back and reuniting couples, just to kill them off is such psychotic writing. I have no idea what Y&R is trying to do except show viewers that they shouldn't care about these characters or their relationships anymore.

Agreed. I don't even watch Y&R any more, and I'm offended by this. I will say though that in the hands of a talented writer, you could get a good front-burner story out of Cole's death. For instance, you could do a slow-building story where Victoria and Cole have started to rekindle their love, and Claire is starting to bond with the parents she never knew, and then suddenly at a routine check-up Cole learns that he has a terminal disease, then keeps the information from Victoria and Claire because he wants them all to enjoy the little time they have left together as a family. But then various people start to find out Cole's secret--maybe Victoria's ex, Nate, sees the pills Cole is taking to deal with his symptoms and recognizes what they're for--and then they have to decide whether to keep his secret or tell Victoria and/or Claire. And all of this could go on for months before Cole finally dramatically kicks the bucket.

But of course to tell that story you'd need a writer who isn't allergic to drama in the way Josh Griffith is. And you'd need Cole actually on screen, which apparently he's only been 8 times this whole year.

This story would have been 1,000 times better and actually got the audience invested.

Hard to get invested when the show isn't.

At least Cole gets a death scene. I wouldn't have been surprised if it had all happened off-screen.

As mentioned above,if they wanted to go that route there was months of story to tell.

But the potential of bringing Cole back was wasted.

It's a hack for lazy writers. The history is built in. You don't have to do the work of building the relationship, showing them falling in love. You can just refer to those deep feelings they had in the past and then show them going for drinks a couple of times, and voila, they are a couple. Then you kill someone off and you get the big payoff storyline and write a bunch of scenes about how despondent the survivor is. It literally writes itself, it's like a cheat code, and there you have filled another couple of months of story without having come up with any new ideas.

What a stupid move Josh Griffith!  F history he must say, smh.   J. Eddie Peck and Amelia Heinle have great chemistry.  They should've instead gave him a contract. This and the killing off of Chance too is beyond idiotic!

JG undoing all the actual positive accomplishments he actually made makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Killing off Heather and Cole, bringing back Cane in the most ridiculous way, and Alison Lanier walking out on the show…obviously JG taking 10 steps back after moving one step forward.

Why couldn’t he just let Cole and Victoria just settle?

How much longer is Failiy Erin going to be on the show? She seems to getting reduced airtime and would add to JG’s even more pointlessness.

Just a quick shout out as Cole takes his last breath on the show today — and with that, this chapter of my journey on The Young and the Restless comes to a close.

I want to thank all of you — my fans, friends, and Y&R family — for welcoming me back with such incredible warmth and support. Your messages, posts and enthusiasm made this return deeply meaningful for me. I'll do a lil follow up with a video later today or this eve.

Much love, ❤️

J.Eddie

They could have got a lot more out of Cole/Victoria.

Now Victoria is again single. After her many marriages and relationships they can hardly afford to be killing off potential mates.

Cole could have just left town if it was a budget thing.

I just want Griffith to go so badly...but that's asking a lot I guess! 🙄

I’m so about to just start hate watching just like B&B, although I know it will be also like watching paint dry on the walls.
