Best episode of the week so far. The pacing on some of the side storylines is picking up too, which I like.  And I'm always a sucker for a musical montage. I actually felt something for Derek and Ashley during it, both looking at pictures of each other on their phones and saying g'night. Music always helps bring out emotional moments.

  • Ashley, forget about Derek and embrace the man you are meant to be with: Andre Richardson! He wouldn't scratch the fridge!
  • Derek, where are you at? A rundown motel? Or the firehouse?
  • Dani and Pamela are absolute moods with each other. Loving their explored friendships.
  • Uh-oh, is Chelsea's female boo not wanting to explore things with Chelsea? That's sad.
  • Not Bill and the child bride still walking about the honeymoon they're going to resume? Please no.
  • Dashley? No. No. Naomi, do not be team Dashley. Please. And Derek, everything about you (pre-smelly socks) annoys me.
  • DANI PLANTING THE KISS ON PAMELA! YES!!!
  • I'm really going to need Ashley to get over Derek; he is not the prize that you believe him to be. Let him go be the disgusting, unkempt, dirty pig he's shown himself to be.
  • Of course Bill thinks it's about him, and then Chelsea feels insulted due to the fact she just got denied by the [married] woman she was into.
  • Not Hayley thinking this is about Dani for Chelsea; it's about something deeper.
  • While I get where Chelsea is coming from and fully agree with her, this is the one time she's not knowing the truth of the situation, and I wish she'd listen to Dani.
  • Not Dana eavesdropping on Jacob interrogating Eva... and trying to continue setting her up. But Eva do not protect her. Do not.
  • Yes, Chelsea, shut Bill down!! Let your momma support you in your coming out to her!! Look at her telling her truth... so beautiful!
  • I'm still intrigued by what is causing Bill's hand tremors.

Notes:

  • Sean Freeman (Andre) and Jen Jacob (Ashley) have some real chemistry between them, and I hope they continue to build on it, script-wise.
  • I CALLED IT! I CALLED IT! I knew there was some underlying chemistry with Dani and Pamela! I knew it; Cady McClain and Karla Mosley just played it up to that point!
  • Other day and no Procter & Gamble products in commercials.
  • Danielle Paige rocked the script today. That might be one of the best "coming out" scenes I've witnessed on an American daytime soap.

I ended up being VERY moved by the scenes between Dani and Chelsea today. I think that it's so awesome that not one...but two...of the Dupree grandchildren identify as queer.

Since KM came out as queer a bit back, you can't help but wonder how her own personal experience shaped that performance. BRAVO!

Oh wait, I got that wrong, I think?

Correcting what I said: Chelsea and Bill both assumed that Dani was fake-kissing Pamela.  But meanwhile Pamela asked for the reason for the kiss and Dani explained that she was trying to give Pamela something to focus on other than Diego.  So now I think that Dani just wanted to help Pamela, but Bill and Chelsea misconstrued (as did I).  But then Dani reverted to form and taunted Bill about it.

Chelsea would be right if Dani was just kissing Pamela as a ruse to make Bill jealous.  But maybe it was really about Pamela and not about Bill.

I can't stand Andre with Ashley.  Sean Freeman acts the scenes well but I just don't like how Andre is being written in his scenes with Ashley.
(edit to clarify: the dialogue is stilted)

The last few episodes have been same Fairmont day, everyone in same wardrobe.

Fyi, I can't detect it from watching but Andre's white shirt
is leather

specifically goatskin leather:

Chelsea being angry that a married woman turned her down is so ridiculous and her taking it out on Dani is even more silly. I did like the fact that she told Bill to go away.

The fact that Bill allowed Dani to push his buttons enough to say something once again shows that he likes playing these games. And Hayley is too dumb to call him out on it (as well as too clueless to tell him to go to the doctor for an obvious health issue).

We are seeing just how diabolical Leslie is with how she manipulated Eva.

    • I didn't even bother.  And to trot out Lauren and Michael who are hardly on and don't have stories... It must be a money saving situation.
    • I recall a scene between Phillip and Chelsea that was played with Bolger--I think it was the characters' first major conversation--but soon after that Grant returned.  Chelsea working in PR at Spaulding made little sense. At least Blake was supposed to be qualified. Never understood why Alan was willing to give Chelsea that job. He seemed to really like Chelsea as Phillip's girlfriend, too, which made less sense, as she was even lower on the social scale than Beth. Wait... Just thought of something. Took her storyline?  Was CHELSEA originally supposed to be Alan's spy to help him get Spaulding back? Were they going to become lovers? Is THAT what Maureen meant about her being "wild?" Yikes.
    • The ball had a certain and-now-for-something-different charm back in the day, but yeah, it's just too polished, too much of an "institution."
    • Good catch. More Bell parallels. ICAM! With both statements. Same. It doesn't seem like they even enjoy writing for her. They may need to change her career to move her around.  I hope it's only for flashback scenes. Not every character needs a family member, especially the villains. That's how I felt, too. It ruined the coming out moment for me. I still liked the moment, but it was more like a plot device instead a more natural time.
    • My god Kristina was in full delusion today. I know she was never the best character but I don’t remember ever hating the character the way I do now and have since the baby nonsense.
    • To me that's always what they have been. I figured that was part of the charm to people who enjoy them. They could have just had the legendary Rosalind Cash onstage but instead they have Lucky and Luke (and Justus) in the background to give us some heartwarming comedy as the Pips. I think the Nurses' Ball should just have been left to those first few years, to be honest (any time before we got year after year of Ned "rocking out" and the year of a sex tape being played), but I do know many people love them. My main issue is they often just seem a little too glossy since coming back thanks to the HD format. I was watching the Spinelli performance on Youtube and it is clearly meant to be charming, silly fun, which it is, but it's more suited to the cheap seats era of the Ball where you had someone literally hanging from the rafters, not today's slickness.
    • I think Grant had just returned, although I'm not sure. I can't remember the exact quote, but I think Kassie said Blake took her storyline, her romantic pairing, and her job (at Spaulding). I can't remember when this was - maybe her leaving interview in SOD or SPW.
    • I meant to mention Kat on my list. I think the actress is killing it, and I love the way Kat dresses. I can't understand having a problem with her wardrobe, which completely fits the character.
    • I wonder who Andre was thinking about when he was lying in his bed. Kat gives me feels of Y&R early Christel Khalil Lily, and her being a virgin is a throwback to the 1980s prized virgin heroine ie. Y&R Cricket, B&B Caroline, As the World Turns Lily.
