I think it's clearly Ozempic for them and for Maura West, too. No shade -- good for them. I do think the skimpy tank top on Maxie was ridiculous for mid-October.

This is one of those times when knowing casting news and spoilers really hurts watching the show.

Because we know too much about Sam and Lulu (and the actors), I'm pretty bored with all this build-up to Lulu's operation. It would all be so much better if we knew nothing.

That was just uneven to me. But given the TV spot for this week, I assume that this week will be playing the beats. In those regards, there was some good to see.

For me...

LULU'S STORYLINE. So now those stakes are getting higher. The messing with her equipment. ANOTHER complication in the surgery. Lucky weaving Isaiah into the surgery. Sam getting Drew AND Jason to meet her on the Q's grounds...another one of those finality scenes. Laura being Laura and being beside herself. Good to see Kevin there for her. But a lot of beats going on. Also, another case of the filming style working against it. Because...

BYE, BYE, VIOLET. ...I felt there were too many cuts to this one. And those scenes DID linger...for all the wrong reasons. Good acting, but like most, I'm just over Violet. Even though she is a nice beat to get Chase/BLQ to their next story beat. And I've VERY HAPPY someone kept their foot on FV's neck to make sure Finn made NO appearance to see her off.

HOLLY VS ROBERT. Pretty good scenes. And a nice flashback. But otherwise I was meh-ing it because it did not have another room to breathe either.

We know how I feel about Dante so I have no complaints there.

Judging by what Bridget Dobson has said about her parents, they probably hated the show from the moment she fully took over in 1973!

I have been playing catch-up and the show is watchable but there is so much going on that it feels like nothing is being given room to have any emotional depth.

I will give the last year/couple of months some credit- NLG, Becky, and Dom should never have been sidelined, and are carrying a lot of weight to make several stories have emotional depth. It is refreshing to see them being used well again. Jane and Genie continue to bring layers to their work that must come from their acting choices, because the writing isn’t featuring either of them like it should.

This turn with Sasha would have interested me more several years ago. Rick Hearst is really making sparks everywhere, still fun to watch as a slimeball. And the question still remains for me- why doesn’t Trina have any kind of story?

It is uncomfortable watching the way they are walking Kelly Monaco out the door. I am not opposed to writing Sam out. But it’s not fun to watch knowing how sidelined she has been and how it has been handled.

    • Maeve makes a few sporadic appearances, but returns full-time the next spring/summer. She's back in time to see Bill and Michelle graduate, although she skulks around town and wasn't going to tell anyone she was alive.
    • Aww, yeah it's very heartbreaking and I mostly enjoyed the Nola/Vanessa scenes because they finally let their walls down and came together in a beautiful moment. So Nola was at the hospital already and bumped into Vanessa, who had MRI papers that fell out of her hand and Nola went down to pick them up and asked her what was going on. Later, Vanessa confided in her about her disease. Then, Nola told Zachary on the beach (he prodded her and already alluded to knowing something was going on with Van), and then Vanessa found out she told him and got a little upset. Now, however, Nola is strangely absent while everyone is mourning her death. I'm curious if Nola will actually tell people about her MRI results. I would assume so. Only Nola, Rick, Roger and Zachary know anything, although there is the MRI results letter from the mail that everyone has missed seeing at home. I'm sure it'll all come out at some point. But... I just saw the next episode and the opening already cut Vanessa out and added Dahlia and Zachary. I guess Maeve is gone for a long time

That will break my heart seeing the town continue to mourn her and assume she's dead. I can't wait to see her return though, and I have to imagine feelings will be torn between loving that she's alive and being very angry she did all of this. While I hate what Vanessa is doing, I'm happy to hear it's not totally against her character. I think you're right, had Henry still been around, she wouldn't put him through this. I'm still surprised she is with Bill, though. I get her feelings on Matt, because she wants him to move on, but still very heartbreaking. I'm glad this was Maeve's choice to have a break vs. being fired.    Interesting, so I'm curious to see who they eventually pair Phillip with. They're flirting with a Phillip/Annie pairing, but I'm not sure if they'll go that route with the Jeva drama, her growing pill addiction, and Rick's past with her.  Ugh, yeah I'm so sad to see Bridget do a total 180 in the last couple weeks. She has always been a strong character from what I've seen, but now she's just bending over backwards to get Hart to love her and it reeks of desperation. Yeah, sure, this new Hart is eye candy, but I'm already tired of seeing Hart/Dinah have sex all over Springfield and the Cayman Islands haha.
    • Yes.  I remember them together during the early summer of 1986.  They didn't share scenes again for 30 years until 2017 because Carrie wasn't on the show when Anna returned during Sydney's kidnapping.
    • I can see Kim being that way. Well, Kyle didn't have to say yes. LOL. The suicide attempt feels plot-driven. I don't know if even Long could've made it work. She'd spent so much time trying to make Reva and Kyle into a couple, it feels odd to just have them give up. Not to mention how odd it is to have Maeve agree to marry him. Re Charita---surely they could've at least tried  finding clips with who was still there. Maybe they wouldn't have been "big" moments, but surely she'd interacted with Ross, Vanessa, and Henry. Vanessa had dated Ed, FCOL. But Mo and Rick were there---surely they could've bothered to find some clips of her with them (and they did interact a fair amount) and used them. And with Ed they could've found some shot of her talking to him and just not cut to whoever was playing Ed in the clip. That to me is what feels lazy---they had more than a year to figure it out, and they went with a bunch of photos. If you were sort of centering it on Rick anyway---then find clips with them and use 'em.
    • I definitely think it's time to write off Nina for good. I think her killing Drew might actually be a good idea. She could completely lose it after losing both Sasha and Willow and she ends up murdering Drew and eventually she gets caught and sent away to prison for a long time.
    • I hope it's okay to post this here(as in from DC)
    • Quick question - did Christie and Leann share any scenes together in the '80s before Leann left the show?
    • This is the perfect way to encapsulate the situation. So many morally-reprehensible stories were foisted on the show and its characters in ATWT's dwindling years. Rape should never be used as a cheap plot device or in a way that degrades the victim. Jack's sexual assault was another heinous example of how nasty the the show's tone had become. The fact that people like Hogan Sheffer, Ron Carlivati, Jean Passanante, Charles Pratt, Dena Higley, etc., somehow end up winning awards for their material, decimates the credibility and integrity of the awards, IMHO. Soaps used to have a solid moral core and did not originally wallow in the gutter, rolling around in filth and depravity just to be cool, hip, campy, or whatever else modern-day PTB aim for. Thank you. Cruelty, degradation and misogyny are not components which lend themselves to successful soaps, which have always been predicated on warmth, family bonds, and providing a comforting haven for their audience. The genre has been crippled because the cynical and ignorant executives in charge understand neither the shows nor what the audience wants to see.
