This is really shocking and sad. My condolences to his family, friends, fans, and coworkers. While I can’t say he was the greatest actor, he was always committed to the role of John Black and to DAYS, which is more than you can ask for these days. RIP.

He was set to turn 71 tomorrow. Unfortunately, he didn't get to see that day. He was just 70 years old when he died (September 28, 2024).

To say I'm shocked is an understatement. Like many here I had no idea he was even sick. RIP to Drake and thank you for bringing me so much entertainment for so many years. My condolences to his family and all those at Days who worked with him.

What a shocking loss. My jaw dropped when I saw an acquaintance post the news on social media. 

He never phoned it in and committed to the role. He had a sense of humour and the audience loved him for it. What a terrible loss for DAYS and all who loved him.

John Black has been involved in some of my favourite soap opera storylines ever: The Affair, Maison Blanche, The Possession, and Lady In A Cage.  He was never going to win an acting award, but he was damn watchable playing the hero, and romantic lead.  His chemistry with Deidre and Eileen and Joe Mascolo were so good.  RIP Drake.

He had chemistry with everyone... He managed to be in four fairly popular couplings with Diana/e, Izzy B, Marlena, and Kristen.

And he and Marlena were settling nicely into the patriarch & Matriarch of DAYS.
