The Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony on Friday, July 26 averaged 28.6 million viewers across NBC and Peacock on Friday, becoming the most-watched opening ceremony for a Summer Olympics since London 2012, according to fast national data from Nielsen and Adobe Analytics. An additional 666,000 viewers watched this year’s Opening Ceremony on Telemundo.

“Last night’s Opening Ceremony, one of the most ambitious and complex in Olympic history, was a spectacle for those in attendance in Paris, delivered a huge audience across our NBCU platforms, and set records for Peacock,” said NBC Sports President Rick Cordella in a statement released on Saturday. “Thanks to the tireless effort of our production and engineering teams, and extensive promotion, we are off to a strong start that is in line with the expectations of our NBC stations, and distribution and advertising partners. We are in great position as we look forward to the next two weeks of competition.”

The Total Audience Delivery (TAD) for the Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony was up +60% or 10 million viewers higher than the Tokyo Opening Ceremony (17.9 million) in 2021 (the delayed 2020 Ceremony) and +8% higher than the Rio Opening Ceremony (26.5 million) in 2016.

Overall, the Paris Opening Ceremony has emerged as the most streamed ever (more than 2.5 million viewers) and ranks as the No. 1 entertainment event in Peacock history.

Across all NBCUniversal-owned platforms, and led by Peacock, the Opening Ceremony’s streaming consumption exceeded one billion minutes through Friday which is six times greater than the Tokyo Olympics during the comparable time frame.

NBCUniversal says this year’s Opening Ceremony generated +320% greater search volume for brands advertising during the ceremony than the Tokyo Opening Ceremony. The company holds U.S. media rights to the Olympic Games through 2032, including Paris (2024), Milan Cortina (2026), Los Angeles (2028) and Brisbane (2032). The 2030 Olympic Winter Games host city has yet to be chosen.

Final viewership figures for the Paris Opening Ceremony will be published on Monday.

Go woke, go  broke!  LOL @ all the "satanic" screeds about the Greek myth in drag performance being confused for The Last Supper.

Celine Dion overcoming SPS brought the audience.  That was a nice performance on the Eiffel tower.

I think the Beijing Olympics spectacle was by far the best still.  London had some cute comedy bits, too.

    • Ann Williams was the first Maggie Powers on The Doctors but left to have a baby. Maggie was successfully recast so Ann picked up the role of Eunice (Jo's sister on Search for Tomorrow) and played that role for 10 years before being killed of in 1976. That led to her role of Margo on EON.
    • Looking at those totals it seems most contract actors are on a 1 or 2 week average guarantee. I assume contracts are still operating on 13 week cycles so you would have to know the particular actors contract starting date to work out their guarantee. The question remains as to what actors listed as contract are actually recurring? Bryton ?
    • Yep, that scene was at the conclusion of the Derek Thurston vs George Packard storyline, when Kay decided neither of them should run Chancellor.  By the time she put Victor in charge, Victor had been on the show for months & months with his Rolls Royce, his ranch, and Newman Enterprises.  SONY released some Y&R "trivia cards" in the late 1980s, and one of the questions was "who brought Victor Newman to Genoa City?" The answer on the back of the card is "Kay Thurston, to run Chancellor Industries", and it's a wrong answer lol.
    • I think someone said it did exist, but I can't remember.
    • The bit with the scarf reminds me of the fabled stuffed animal scene with Rick and Phillip. (That wasn't debunked, was it?)
    • Ohh, interesting. I instantly gravitated towards her in that episode. Of course I'm already hooked and want to know why she was trying to poison that older lady, but then how did the older lady know to switch the mugs so Susan drank her own poison...  but I have too many timelines I'm watching right now haha.  Oh, Bolger is definitely hot. I didn't realize he was on GL haha. I knew him from OLTL and other primetime stuff.
    • This is a effin shame. Eff Trump and eff the bastards that enable him.
    • I 100% agree but I think this is due to how the show is structured. It's a one family show which means there are no people in her age range that could be used as friends or contemporaries of her. The show definitely needs a second main family. I am glad someone finally said this. Especially now that the cast is gelling in their roles, he stands out like a sore thumb. No energy, no chemistry with anybody. He is just there.  I thought that was odd as well! The previous scene would've worked better as a tag for the credits.
    • That's the one and only Carrie Nye (Mrs. Dick Cavett) as Susan Piper, a deadly realtor. I don't want to spoil a lot if you ever want to see those episodes. She returns as another character in 2003. I think Grant has aged well and he always did a good job at being ripped without going too far, but he was never entirely my cup of tea either. I did think John Bolger was hot.
    • Totally agree. KKL looks great! It makes the Widge groveling so bizarre. Brooke needs to leave FC and with $B's/Liam's funding launch a rival fashion house with Hope, Rick, Katie and a secret designer. The best scenario is that Rick has been absent because he's been with very much alive C2, who is revealed on the runway as the secret designer. It'll never happen because B&B is comfortable just focusing on FC and the Forresters Marones v. Logans. But it'd been so much more interesting if the Spencers/Logans united.
