It was mostly the dialog that came across as very PSA.

Yeah and at least during the late 80’s it would end with some benefit concert involving Danny. Yikes.

On the other hand, a lot of the nasty common folks Y&R characters encountered were the Karens of their time. Mary Williams and her church’s women circle, Jessica Blair’s naysayers, Derek Stuart’s mother, the unpatriotic man Victor berated, Nina’s haters, Gloria Capshaw at April’s trial, and of course Jill & Katherine themselves.

Agree, the Danny concerts were so cringe.

Haha as bad as they were the original teen pregnancy story involving the girl from Honey I Shrunk the Kids, with one time daytime diva Lynn Benesch as her mother while the dead guy from Touched by an Angel John Dye as baby daddy were hugging on screen and being sappy as could b with each other as Danny & Lauren sang together did lead us to Molly’s best friend Nina as a very, very chilling follow-up story.

@YRfan23 I wasn’t entirely sure I hadn’t seen this before but once there was the scene of Dru proposing to Neil going to Crystal Lake, I remember us having a good laugh about that (Friday the 13th movies lol) when this was shared here several years ago. (Which Btw there is a real Crystal Lake that’s close to the real Genoa City Wi.)

Haha, I haven't seen this one in a while but I forgot the "Crystal Lake" reference :D

I love the discussion these classic episodes musters! :) I can't believe some people are upset that they aired a true classic over the current crap....It's frustrating.

Agreed. They can't give up one day out of 300+ to show actual quality soap? Lol.

Who TF would be upset?  Yesterday's classic episode was one-hundred times better than anything airing today.  Character-driven, well-written dialogue and it was brilliantly done.

And, of course, to put it in perspective this was just a few months after the LA Riots, so the issue was in the public conscience.

Yeah, I mentioned that already upthread.

I just got a chance to watch, courtesy of the vault. What that video file lacks in visual sharpness, it makes up for with commercials of the day the episode aired. I enjoyed it.
At first, it made me a bit sad to see so many actors who we’ve obviously lost over recent years but as I delved deeper into the story, I found that it was enjoyable to revisit this time.

Ashley and Brad appeared to be peeping each other out and we can figure out that Ryan’s thoughts are occupied with more than seeing Abbotts at the picnic. The Young and the Restless did something you know the current writers would be loathe to do-acknowledge the actual times we’re living in. It was obvious that Neil’s monologue was a nod to the police brutality of Rodney King and the subsequent riots in response to the verdict. KSJ really made an unimpeachable case for his character being included in my soap character Hall Of Fame speeches during the holidays. The singing afterwards towed the line, in terms of almost being too much but considering the occasion, it was appropriate, I think. But at least back then, the show wasn’t afraid to acknowledge the real world, for better and for worse.

You know what they say, "great minds think alike, and fools seldom differ."

Also, I went back to vault to see the previous year's July 4th episode, and there's a notable difference that Mamie is no longer stuck in the kitchen in her uniform for the whole party by the time this episode aired.

Y&R has really leaned into the flashbacks lately, even flashbacks of relatively recent developments.

GH has used flashbacks more frequently as well. Are we in our strike padding era?

Considering General Hospital is filming certain scenes one-day before they air, they're definitely trying to stretch the material that's been pre-written to their advantage, and if that's what it takes, I'm all for it right now. If there were no strike, I'd be pissed.

I was concocting something in my head but first let me ask, did Nikki EVER take a Drink saying something along the lines of "DAMN YOU VICTOR!"???

Now hold up one minute!!!

So Noah and Allie are just vanished off to London. That's it? smh.

And Kyle, Kyle, Kyle...not only went back for SECONDS but probably THIRDS in the shower.

Wow.

Well, it's nice to see the untucked shirt strike is over. I see you, actors. ;)

Hehe. Now that she's in the driver seat due to Victoria's manipulations, Audra is vamping it up a little bit. And I'm NOT hating it. Her scene with Lily revealing that she was now in charge of Newman Media...oooo....that was good. Could we get another rivalry going for Audra? Cuz you know that one with Summer is coming.

It's funny. I should be oh so mad at Summer and her marriage falling apart is her fault, too (yes, also Giggly Heffa), but Kyle is really not coming across as well at all. Yes, he should be angry. Three sex sessions. Sending flowers to Audra. Giving really douche flirt. Giving up the company and still whining when it was HIS choice. And I just feel sorry for Summer.

Seeing all this talk about moving to the Chancellor mansion is making me think of your ideas, @DramatistDreamer? You think JG is up to something with that, or it's just lip service?

I am wondering if something more is also coming of this story of Sharon being Cameron's benefactor.

Has CLB spoken about an illness or a procedure he’s had done on his eye? They looked very irritated in his last appearance.
