There was some story potential for David within the plots of the last few years.

First, he would've been 54 which makes him a contemporary of Abe and Tony.  So, he could've been paired with Kate or Paulina.  He also could have renewed his interest in Kayla or his antagonism toward Anna could have turned to romance.

Second, when Sarah began to think she was Renee, he could've served that storyline

And third, given his love of motorcycles he could've been a surrogate father for Ben.

But, I never cared for David as much as I cared for Mike, or even Scotty, so I think the idea that his loss gave more time to Julie and allowed her to bond with Eli was a good choice.

David was born in 1968, and he married Renee who was old enough to be Tony's sister?  Also, he's older than Hope, which makes him older than Bo, but probably around Roman's age who is the same age as Abe (on screen).

I'm obviously not referencing the actor's real ages, because on soaps we've had teens being portrayed by 30-year-olds.  So, I think I've done the math correctly because I don't count SORASing when characters stay in their late 20s forever.

Well, I think David would *probably* be in his 50s if they brought him on the show since they'd probably want to empathise that he's young enough to be Julie's kid (who is roughly in her 70s), but also old enough to be Eli's dad. Not that it matters since he's dead, but ages are confusing on DAYS.

I still wouldn't put him in Abe and Tony's age bracket at this point since they seem more contemporaries of Julie at this point.

I would make David around Kayla's age if he were alive.  A little younger than Tony, Marlena, Roman, et all, but significantly older than Eric, Brady, Sami, Lucas etc.  Vanessa Williams looks to be 59, MBE is 61, SSH is 78, LA is 40 so 60 seems like the right age to land for David considering Julie was a young mom and I assume Eli is supposed to be younger than LA.

Weirdly I don't consider Julie to be a contemporary of Abe/Roman.  Even though age wise they are-to me I consider them younger and a different generation.  I lump them in with Bo/Hope/Marlena/John/Patch.  I put Julie in the Victor/Maggie category.   And before someone tells me Josh Taylor is the same age as SSH-I know.  It's just an actual perception thing on my end.  I consider Marlena's age group to be a different generation because they led stories for so much longer than Julie whose been an "older" character since Hope was a teenager.

Totally unironically may I say that one of the things I love about this board is that we can have a two day discussion about a dead character's fictional age?

Also, shout to soapcentral's recap, can we agree that this line of dialogue from Julie to Eli, makes about as much sense as a guy moving to Maryland to raise twins on his own less than a month after recovering from a coma?

"You have David's slow, wonderful smile. And the way you love, Eli. So fiercely, so true," Julie said.

What's a slow smile?

I loved that dialogue specifically & the whole episode's writing generally and a slow smile spreads slowly across the face instead of just going from no smile to full smile in 60, so to speak. I was just looking at David Martin, Jr. aka Bradley Banning on this fandom wiki https://daysofourlives.fandom.com/wiki/David_Banning?fbclid=IwAR3pDZ8-uHYCoxf7PNm9WBfQCoBQxH2tZkTSi_wgJISju9SQzUeiiHPekZQ

and according to it David was born Jan. 28, 1958 & was reported dead in Feb. 2017 at the age of 59. And, age is as confusing as family in Salem.

Will is actually one of the characters age that makes some sort of sense since they pretty much allowed him to grow up on-screen, same with Abby (along with Shawn-Douglas, who also only had minor adjustments to keep Hope a "young" heroine).

But the biggest [!@#$%^&*] up of all when it comes to ages is still Belle since she was so important to forming of Sami's character with the conception and then Sami kidnapping her. Now they're the same age!

    • Where do you discover this crazy rumor??
    • Jill Farren Phelps was always very skilled at saying what she meant onscreen in the bluntest way possible, like whenever she wanted fans to support one character vs. the other (hence Megan McTavish groaning about having to write Kale Browne's Sam Rappaport into three days a week at OLTL). Perhaps you should consider doing the same. Historically your intent is always far more obvious than your efforts at coy embroidery anyway. You believe people are dismissing Phelps' accomplishments, and suggest misogyny and fan blinders allow people to too easily pigeonhole and dismiss her skill set. I think we all understand her varied skill set. We're saying it's not enough to make up for her deficiencies as a storyteller and creative. JFP was undoubtedly a skilled technical producer. As a solo storyteller, and de facto HW, she was a repeat and predictable failure. She was not the first or last EP (male or female) to think she was a writer. If you want us to stop taking your behavior personally when you suggest misogyny is at play in board opinions of JFP, perhaps you should consider spending the next 10+ years here not acting like you're the only one who gets it.

Melissa was here today & we went to Michael's Crafts & Ofc Depot. In Michael's there were two beautiful LITTLE girls who kept staring at me, so I gave them a littel wave & very quietly said HI & then did back. I told Melissa they were staring at me. She smiled & said "Purple. A lot of little girls love purple & you forget but you have purple hair. Seeing you their whole imaginations are transformed! Thinking "That lady has purple hair. That means I can have purple hair! They had no clue before seeing you that it was possible." I just laughed & laughed.
    • This opening scene is hilarious...it's like someone wrote out the script for Philip with one hand. And Rick...sniffing a scarf over and over. And in their next scene they are still sniffing the [!@#$%^&*] scarf as the camera stays all over Philip's bare chest and armpits as he keeps working out. Insane stuff.

Bay City better be ready, because I'm back!   At Vicky's apartment she is once again drowning in doubts and jealousy. Deep down she realizes that her dream wedding will be a farce and nothing can change that. Bridget tries to calm her down, but the heroine is determined to suffer. She is not hearing any positive thoughts. She doesn't believe Jamie will marry her. At the Cory Publishing building another farce is in process. Iris, once again pretending to be the angel of love and sisterhood... is telling Mac and Rachel some wonderful news. When Iris has good news, you really need to look out for yourself. That's when things are bad. So what are the news? Miss Devil has put Amanda up for an award! Mac is smiling from ear to ear, and Rachel is suspicious. Maybe that's the effect Iris is looking for. To once again accent on the fact that Rachel doubts and criticizes her daughter. Iris will do anything to destabilize their relationship. She is like a cancer. Back to Vicky! Jamie is at the door. Looking like a sad puppy, he has come with a surprise. No, he is not gonna leave her and her unborn... Not yet. He has bought her earrings. Sad face. How nice. NOT. Victoria, of course... manages to break one of them the moment she touches it. Bad premonition maybe? She was back in hysterics. It's not easy to trap a man into marriage. Then you have to live with someone that didn't want you in the first place.  We were introduced to a new character (to me at least she is new) - Cass's sister - Stacey. She is giving me "hidden skeletons in the closet"-vibes. Love a girl like that. Stunning actress. I like her. The highlight of the episode was the strange and creepy reveal of Evan the escort... hugging someone named Janice's grave. I remember she had an issue with Rachel... and Rachel killed her in self defense I think... It was hinted in prior episodes, but I lack the context and story. I just know that everyone at the Frame house was mad that Rachel killed the bish. But I also got the impression that this Janice was sick in the head. So Evan is now talking to her grave and telling her he is going to ruin Rachel's life basically. Oh, Evan... I liked you better as a sexy gigolo.  Overall - 10/10 - how can I rate it lower when I haven't watched in months!!!

    • Once again, Marlena and Kayla were used very effectively and I couldn’t be happier.  Marlena counseling Johnny and then Chanel was the best part of today. They’re really delving into the human emotion of this storyline and I think that’s a good thing. It feels so much mature than it was before. EJ’s fear about what could happen to Johnny if he doesn’t let go of his anger could lead to some really good storylines in the future.  I also really appreciate the way that Paula/Jeanne are mixing it up and having different characters interact with each other. It was nice to see Shawn and Johnny remember that they’re cousins and share a scene together. I liked the parallel that was drawn between the two of them, and what’s going on with their fathers. I did have mixed feelings about everything with Cat though. I enjoyed Chanel warning her about EJ, mostly because it played into the way that she was written today. But I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Chad/EJ scenes. The two of them discussing Chad’s potential feelings for Cat didn’t really keep my interest.  But above all, I feel that everyone is being used more effectively and that we’re getting a better understanding of everyone as well. And that was exactly what Days needed.
    • It's a wild story for sure, especially the final conclusion (and fireworks offcamera, like Victoria Wyndham tearing into Michael Logan).
