It would be interesting if they made Kyle a bit shadier (as the song suggests, although I assume it was used for the "guess who's back" part).

Kyle was usually a good guy.  But, his past with both Theo and Tara suggested that while he was away from Genoa City he got into some shady activities.  Fans hypothesized lots of backstory with Kyle that was never actually played out on screen, so it would be fun if his breakup with Summer caused his naughtier side to emerge...

lmao, when they told him he would be acting opposite Susan Walters (who is a bigger deal outside of soaps than the lot of them) + he has bills to pay and ain't nobody else calling but Onlyfans of course he signed on the dotted line.

I agree. I didn’t care for it as much but after rewatching some of that period on Pluto TV both Kyle and Summer were edgier and more interesting until two things:

1. Kyle’s big bad deep dark secret about something he did in NYC turned out be to be nothing at all.

2. The show spent two years telling us Kyle and Lola were soulmates only for him to abruptly dump her for Summer again. 
 

Theo was the more interesting  one and of course once he finally got something juicy material to do they wrote him out. Ugh.
