I'm not surprised he's leaving, since we know Richard Burgi has had a successful career in primetime and goes back to daytime when needed. Actually, I thought he would be gone by now. The character of Ashland had potential, but once they never went through with him being the next "Big Bad Businessman" we were all supposed to be frightened of. I knew it was only a matter of time before the character became a non-entity.

I guess Victoria will have another marriage ending by April. They do not need to do Billy and Victoria ever again. I'm not too keen on Billy and Lily either. I wish they would have had Billy off the canvas for months until they could get a plan for him. I would prefer Lily and Daniel with a teenage Lucy to come in between them instead. I wouldn't mind a recasting of Cole Howard with a teenage son coming to Genoa City, and he and Victoria getting close again. (I know that would never happen)

That's how the whole thing sounds to me -- his choice to leave. Maybe he wanted a change in contract or salary and they stiffed him? Clearly CBS is loathe to spend any money on this show.

In any case, it's a shame because Burgi has a lot of charisma. And charisma is badly needed on Y&R -- there is a positive dearth of that amongst Y&R's fan faves pets.

Shame as Burgi seemed to make Amelia Heinle come alive for once.

I swear, anytime AH gives off even the least little bit of spark in her performances, TPTB immediately put a stop to it.  Either that, or AH complains, because she doesn't want to, you know, act.

Frankly, I'm not here for Billy and Victoria's 2000th go-round; and if Jason Thompson is the best they could ever do, then maybe it's time for this show to put a bullet in Billy and end his ass.

FTR, I don't dislike Jason Thompson. IMO he is acting as directed and trying to sell the script. However, I don't really feel anything for the character (and it's not just his character to be fair). A lot of this is the fault of the writing which has been reduced to a load of slick nothings. I can't connect to or really feel for Billy, or the Victoria & Billy 'pairing' (which Y&R lazily hangs onto as some kind of supercouple).

Sometimes I wonder if the Tweets I used to see about a decade ago squealing over Billy & Victoria, or Chelsea & Adam, or (God help us) AbbyBot & Stitch (!!) were actually Russian bots trying their hand at some modest social-media troublemaking before graduating onto the big stuff.

On a purely skill level, JT is great. I thought he did a nicely nuanced job in that episode where Billy ate some humble pie with Victor. But it’s in service of writing that goes nowhere, and that’s the name of the game for every character on the show.

So true.

    • I think Jason might've posted some numbers for the syndication a while ago and the numbers for Falcon Crest was horrible. Like 1.5 rating or something, which was terrible.    ETA: it was actually Paul Raven:   New to syndication 60 min Fall Guy 67 markets 3.1/8 Falcon Crest 110 markets 1.1/5 To get into the top 40, you needed a 4.6/9 rating for reference - and Falcon Crest managed to get into a lot of markets to begin with. In the fall of 1985 Dynasty, Dallas and Knots were syndicated (show / rating / share / coverage % / markets): Dallas 3.4 10 51.7 92 Dynasty 3.4 10 48.7 47  Knots Landing 3.3 10 12.5 20  So, Knots as an example trippled Falcon Crest's rating with 20 markets - I'm sure those were major ones but it just goes to show you how much Falcon Crest bombed in syndication.
    • It's not bad but the stories move too slow. It's the same problem when Dan O'Connor was CO-HW with Van Etten, they have a million stories and they all drag on endlessly with no resolution. I'd argue the majority of the stories airing now are good but you get sick of waiting months for something to happen.
    • Thanks. I must have missed that period entirely for Lifetime.
    • Thanks. I know Marland did that type of thing sometimes but it's less likely with these characters. I don't even remember Alex ever mentioning him.
    • French fan summary Rusty took over Simon's job at Lewis Trucking after Simon transferred to Lewis Oil's North Carolina office to live near Jessie and Calla. I doubt they would bother following up a story for offscreen characters eg marriage and a baby.
    • I suspected that the performance with the reveal was the reason why the Ted actor got the axe and it looks like I was right. He wasn't really good at conveying what needed to be conveyed in those scenes. Claybon is at least slowly improving (but I agree that he still needs to work on his line delivery), but I do wonder what will happen when his big reveal is coming up.
    • I've already asked this before, recently, but can anyone who watched those years more closely tell me if anything said about Jessie and Simon at the end of their profiles is accurate (about them marrying, naming a baby after Brandon/Lujack, etc.)?
    • Nicole is way too smart to not know she was carrying twins - she's a doctor! My guess is that Leslie did abort her baby out of fear, and as payback, stole Ted and Nicole's child (Eva), and stole Kat from another family to replace her in the hospital.
    • Those Soap Central profiles have a lot of incorrect info. According to SOD summaries and the Daytime Newsletter of the time,Tim left town for a new job and Pam reunited with the father of her baby and also departed Springfield. They did not marry.
    • Do we believe that Jabot is at the level of Estee Lauder?? I am on board with Jabot deciding to expand but the way it was handled was ridiculous. Jabot just decided and bingo, that was that. Not months of negotiations and decisions about how it would fit into the Jabot portfolio. And then no follow through. Josh thinks he's serving business stories by characters sitting around and discussing mergers, takeovers and job switching. Now we have Audra setting up her own company -Vibrator or something. Well, why not? You don't need staff, office space or even products.
