I think more viewers would have been on-board with Robert and Anna had the show not thrown them together so quickly.  Like I always say, the audience will go wherever you want them to go, you just have to take the steps to get them there.

I liked them together back then.  I think the trauma of losing Duke twice and how maudlin Anna had become made it easier for me, because she was happy again.

I preferred her with Duke and Robert with Holly.  I also liked Robert and Cheryl, and hated Katherine.

Amongst the many reasons that I am surprised Mac Scorpio lasted so long is because he served as the catalyst for Glory Monty's 1991 revamp of GH

Mac was introduced the same week as Bill Eckart, his sister Jenny, mother Angela, father Frank, and (a personal favorite) his cousin Joey.  The revamp was considered a creative and ratings failure, so within months most of those introduced were fired.  Frank died in an earthquake (the type that happen too frequently for an east coast port o' call), Angela moved and sold the bakery (which was never going to be the new Kelly's), and Joey just disappeared.  By the end of Monty's second tenure in 1993 they were all gone except Mac.  So, it is a true surprise that he lasted beyond that infamous stage in GH history.

A quick Google would have told you the Eckert patriarch was Fred not Frank, but then this is the norm for your posts, if it's not a five paragraph ramble. I don't mean to be harsh, but corrections that you could avoid by just looking up stuff before you post.... Just saying, if you want to come off as though you know what you are posting about, (which your posts seem to imply), do some due diligence.

Fred didn't die in that dopey earthquake. Fred died sitting in a chair in his home of a heart attack, Felica was paralyzed for 2 mins. Due the earthquake. Angela appeared from time to time. After the character was dropped. To visit Jenny, Bill and Sly. Joey who dated bland Nurse Sheila. Did disappear early on. I think he was the first member of the family to go.

Wasn’t Angela played by Carol Lawrence? I know she was a big Broadway star, but I never liked her in any TV role - she had a showy acting style that seemed too big for the small screen.

Honestly?

DAYS Abe Carver, if he hasn’t been mentioned yet.

4 decades with not even mentionable storys.. Only thing memorable was his pairing with Lexie and that was it lmao

Alex Marshall Days.

He went from general menace to a more misunderstood anti hero destined to reignite love flames with Marie and make happy family with Jessica .

Then the Horton connection was dropped and Alex went back to assistant bad guy to various villians and comedy relief before getting arrested and never heard of again.

An 8 year stint.

I don't know that the Horton connection was dropped, necessarily, but once Jessica and then Marie left the show, Alex's ties to the family became less apparent.

Well…his relationships with Roman and John used to be more in play, as well as Marlena.  But he hasn’t had the right kind of stories for most of his run, certainly not as invested in as other DAYS characters.  Plus the lack of care and attention given to Black actors and their characters by soaps in general.

Yeah, I was going to say the same thing.  His friendship with John/Roman was fairly important.  He was involved in a lot of stories with them-he was just not the lead.  Soaps do need characters like that.  Unfortunately it's glaring that he was a Black actor that could have lead his own stories.

I thought JR did really well with the story in the mid 80's with Richard Cates and his brother getting killed.

How long were he and Lexie on the backburner? A shame because JR and RJ worked so well together.

I loved them both so much. Abe is one of my favorites. I’m shocked that he even lasted 4 decades in a show like Days.
I always loved when they gave Lexie more DiMera storys

It's just as well that those ties were de-emphasized, though, because the whole backstory that tied Alex, Jessica and Marie together always felt mechanical and inorganic to me.
