Just saw on my Twitter timeline from Michael Fairman that Michael Nader (ex- Dex Dexter Dynasty, Dimitri Marick - AMC) passed away on Monday at his home in Northern California from a untreatable cancer. This year has been rough with a lot of Soap vets leaving this earth.

Oh, dammit.

Nader had a lot of rough years IRL, but he never stopped having that class, presence, intensity and above all that voice. I started watching in his and Erica's heyday together, and I never got over him. Even after what he lost to drugs, he came back strong against all odds and a lot of doubts on AMC 2.0 in 2013, and was a very strong part of the new show after so many years and so much grief. That made me so happy then. I'm glad we got to see him one last time, and that he was able to make everyone remember he was the dark prince.

Michael Nader had  such a tough task, being paired with two icons. Dynasty in particular was a huge climb given how internationally popular the show was at the time, what a huge name Joan Collins was, as well as how difficult it was to find characters who could show other sides to Alexis. Michael made it look effortless, even though that was far from the case. He had such a droll, lived-in wit along with a  real vitality. He knew the material he was playing was ludicrous, but something like a count moving to Pine Valley PA and having his comatose wife wheeled in during a masked ball just ended up seeming natural.

Even when given material which was meant to make the character a hate figure, like Dimitri's turn as a villain in 1997, he made it worth watching. Even when he was let go in 1999 and was just  given a few flashbacks with Finola Hughes to help ease her into the show, he reminded everyone of what an asset he was, how unique he was .

I'm really glad he got one last chance  to  play Dimitri, in much more positive circumstances.

RIP this is such sad news. In my mind he still looks like the pictures above. I’ve been rewatching Bianca’s early 2000s storylines on YouTube and he’s heavily featured in some and it reminds me how great he was.  Too many soap greats are passing.

and the true love of Erica Kane's. I will miss him but never forget him.

Michael/Dimitri brought so much to Pine Valley, that was sadly always missing after he left. The Dimitri/Erica pairing was the only time i felt La Kane was apart of a couple that could rival with the greats. I hold his introduction for ushering in the shows second golden era, and for starting my love for Gothic tales and brooding men. I will never forget how hot i was watching Erica walk down that long hallway in Budapest to see his tussy in those tight white pants.

    • Okay, I hear ya. But, you know Josh Griffith on one Thursday night fired 7 or 8 writers in one fell swoop! That totally blew my mind. But, I still think this is bunk. And, no, the show is not that bad! Literally, my only problem with it, as a fan, is that I think it could be great & it's just not. It's good, not great. They still are not on top of pacing. They routinely take too long to tell stories. But, one example, the scenes this week with Lulu & Laura were like old time soap come home!
    • Ok nevermind, Wolf is in Marian's getup on the Jan 9th episode. Lucy wakes up at the lighthouse and it's now Marian, drinking tea, and sounding like an old British woman a la Mrs. Doubtfire

Wolf is actually doing a good job as Brett, but I don't think they made him look like a believable Marian - its too clown/drag, but also creepier - and Wolf has a large nose they couldn't hide. I guess at this point, it didn't matter since she was unhinged and revealing him/herself anyway.
    • This is the *new* Rachel Black who just started airing on DAYS 4/25/2025, but of course with the ginormous tape-to-airdate gap on DAYS, she'll be airing on DAYS for months to come. And yet now she'll be new ex-Rachel. LOL.
    • As someone who cut ties with the show a little while after Chris Van Etten came back, I can’t talk on what the show is like now… is the show that bad? But even as a rumour, that’s pretty wild and radical. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of that before.
    • Yes, I know JK is getting on in years, but perhaps he and his family (wife and/or son) could work with him as co-headwriters on the new TEON! I would also be available as a story consultant!

    • It's too bad they didn't see it through. Alan and Van could have married for all the wrong reasons and ended up caring for each other, with Ross in the wings and possibly Rita, too, to cause trouble. Rita was a LITTLE BIT of a schemer. She was kind of the Nola of her era, without the goofy personality. She deliberately went after Ed because she thought he would give her the lifestyle she wanted. She could do malicious things, i.e. cooly seduce Evie's crush (who was played by Jordan Clark, btw) and string him along until she was sure she had Ed. While Rita claimed to be deeply in love with Alan at the time she departed, part of the attraction for her was his money and power. As well as sharing aspects of Nola's character, she was also a more subtle version of Reva-she grew up poor and always wanted more than she had.
    • I'm not that surprised, in just the little we've seen of her she's been a complete natural. Even better than a handful of the adults.
    • Moving on to bigger projects (ex-Rachel Black, DOOL) https://deadline.com/2025/05/little-house-on-the-prairie-laura-ingalls-cast-alice-halsey-1236383465/

    • I liked that Steffy told Liam that he should tell Hope about his tumor. As acrimonious as Steffy & Hope are to each other, I'm glad they don't use their kids as pawns.
