The show was built as a vehicle for Kate. Spelling liked her so much from The Rookies he wanted her to have a series of her own to shine, but the Farrah mania cast a shadow on that. Jackson quickly got put out with Fawcett leaving, the mediocre writing, and the casting of another blonde bombshell (Cheryl Ladd). By season 3 she was over it completely with losing out on the film role and was showing out. Spelling could have accommodated her by having her character be kidnaped or on a special assignment that has her returning by end season. He did not and the show suffered with her departure.
I read that next month The Paley Center is doing a 50th Anniversary of Charlie's Angels panel with Kate Jackson, Jaclyn Smith and Cheryl Ladd. That should be interesting. Jackson and Ladd have not appeared together since the show and their supposed tension behind the scenes.
