But when EYEEEE told certain folks on this board that Abby was not a lead, has no character beyond 'stupid' and will never be worthy of frontburner story or taken seriously, some of y'all wanted to throw me in the lake and see if I float!

I didn't have high expectations but Y&R has actually been worse since Susan Dansby joined as story consultant.  Sharon's cancer story was wrapped up to be replaced by Chelsea's brain tumor story.  Who thought Lily/Billy would be interesting?  Do you care that Abby has too much scar tissue?  I'm longing for Lynn Latham's reliquary!

Thanks to bad writing over the years we will never know the full potential of Abby Newman. The bad thing is out of the three adult Abby’s we’ve had Ordway is still the best. Both Erin and Rylan(who I loved on GL) just were absolutely dreadful, and no else competent had been cast. It’s a shame Boaz wasn’t permanently replaced by Gaston.

Ordway’s best work remains when she was handling the demented young Max. Maybe if Ordway had been given more challenges like that she grow as an actress more.

Again another case of a Y&R outsider failing to understand the show. I have a lot of respect for Dansby but her previous work on both ATWT and Y&R was only enough to

be considered adequate. Not a miracle like some had hoped but better than Dansby’s own past; we should at least consider ourselves thankful Nate & Elena was consensual and we didn’t get a Doc Reese type character on Y&R as well.

Well I wouldn’t blame Dansby because as Story Consultant she can only make suggestions. They don’t *have* to listen to her unless she’s shaping the show to take over as HW, which now I’m doubting will happen.

@soapfan770 At the time I didn’t like the previous Abby’s, but I think they’d be better now that they’ve had time to grow as actors.

The idea of Abby not being able to get pregnant is a viable story but for it to happen weeks after she is married and then become an obsession is off putting.

Chance and Abby were married too quickly and have no obstacles to face.

Maybe if they had to be married off so soon, there needed to be some story about adjusting to each other's schedules - Abby facing up to the inherent danger of his work. maybe Victor buts in and offers Chance  a job and that causes conflict.Perhaps a business story for Abby where Chance disagrees with her choices etc. Kind of happy but dealing with these issues. Then the pregnancy issue could be gradually woven in.

I like MO and her Abby too. However, I don't see her as a lead character and I'm amazed at how she's given story after story and pairing after pairing while Loren Lott is gone without one story or pairing.  That's my main problem with MO being on the show. Nothing to do with her but how the show operates

Agreed.

Honestly, tptb could have put her character within striking distance of any character in/near her age group that she was not related to and it would've worked. The actress is bubbly, charming, beautiful and talented. There were so many possibilities if only TIIC would have made a serious attempt.

I thought it was stupid that they let Lamon Archey go, the situation with Lott is even worse.

    • I absolutely loved the last few episodes—devoured them! If Trisha and Ambyr’s performances aren’t Emmy-worthy, I don’t know what is. I wasn’t bothered by the lawyer girl not being at the gala from the start, or the grandkids being absent, or Vanessa being MIA. It just goes to show how unnecessarily huge the Dupree family is. And like Toups said, you can’t cram the entire cast into a single episode. Minor nitpicks: Yeah, Ted seriously needs a recast—been saying that since day one. I still don’t know where he stands, and he just comes off as a generic nice guy. Not having Ted and Bill share a single scene since the show started? Huge missed opportunity. And not having Leslie get anywhere near Bill in one of her wigs? Another big miss. It really weakened the impact of her big reveal about Bill’s involvement. Now it just feels a bit like fan fiction. I’m totally confused by Vanessa and Doug’s “arrangement.” One moment it seems like they’re in an open relationship, and the next Vanessa acts completely shocked when Doug so much as hints at her “distractions.” Huh? Can anyone explain what’s going on there?
    • You’d think he would’ve learned after the way Sprina took off.  I hope we get a proper Emma/Gio/Trina/Kai quad, as friends, romantic rivals, etc. In the few scenes that the four of them have had together, I felt like there was a natural chemistry between all of them, similar to the way that Cam/Spencer/Trina/Joss was, in the beginning.  And, it would be a lot better than all this stuff with Kai’s surgery.
    • Hooray we made the exact same critique to Londonscribe!!!!!
    • I don't think they had any idea who he was this time last year. I think they were keeping their options very open. Same with totally dropping the Trina romance that was spoiled for him in the mags once FV clearly took a shine to him. Frank's priorities are bright and blazing in one color. I do think Gio and Emma seem to have worked out given that she is very dry and sarcastic and he is like a hot golden retriever, but I'd still play the field or explore quads with both with very different people - Emma with a scheming young man (of color), Gio with possibly Trina or someone else, or even a boy. Then maybe put them back together, who knows. But of course none that will happen.

    • He definitely got lost in the shuffle last year. First, they were implying that he was Drew’s son, then he was nothing more than just Violet’s bff

And then they changed him to being Dante and Brook Lynn’s son, which was clunky at first but I’m enjoying the storyline now.
    • GM is adorable, charming and fun onscreen despite months of nothing to do until recently, and has a bodacious bod. I'm not cosigning the show or this story - I haven't watched a full episode in over a month - but I think we're all taking the small victories in 2025 at this point. I'm open to testing this theory!
    • I think Jason might've posted some numbers for the syndication a while ago and the numbers for Falcon Crest was horrible. Like 1.5 rating or something, which was terrible.    ETA: it was actually Paul Raven:   New to syndication 60 min Fall Guy 67 markets 3.1/8 Falcon Crest 110 markets 1.1/5 To get into the top 40, you needed a 4.6/9 rating for reference - and Falcon Crest managed to get into a lot of markets to begin with. In the fall of 1985 Dynasty, Dallas and Knots were syndicated (show / rating / share / coverage % / markets): Dallas 3.4 10 51.7 92 Dynasty 3.4 10 48.7 47  Knots Landing 3.3 10 12.5 20  So, Knots as an example trippled Falcon Crest's rating with 20 markets - I'm sure those were major ones but it just goes to show you how much Falcon Crest bombed in syndication.
