Michael Ibo Cooper, co-founding member of legendary reggae band Third World died last night. May he R.I.P.

https://jamaica-gleaner.com/article/news/20231012/ibo-cooper-has-died

Third World’s discography is extraordinary and their songs, particularly during the time period of the 1970s & ‘80s never fails to move me.

RIP Mark Goddard aka Ted Clayton on One Life to Live (Tina's faux father) and Derek Barrington on General Hospital (Amanda's actual son, but I don't think he was Alison's dad).

You’re welcome.
“Now That We Found Love” is such a great cover, it rivals the original imo. Bunny Rugs was the voice of that song, sadly, he died a few years ago. Third World is known for some really great live music. Michael Ibo Cooper was also a founding member of Inner Circle, I’m sure you’ve heard a couple of their songs (“Bad Boys Bad Boys whatcha gonna do…” and Sweat…”A Long Long Long Long Time”).

It’s so sad that Cooper lost his wife last month and his son in March. This year has been awful for so many people.

My first and best memory of her will always be the great Catherine Martell of Twin Peaks. Rumors abounded about Piper almost making an appearance in Season 3 but passing due to the very secretive and very sudden call schedule on that project, but she always remained very fond and complimentary of the show to the end. I wish she'd done it after all.

The echo of her voice as she yells out “They’re gonna laugh at you!” to Carrie, was haunting and is unforgettable.

Speaking of Laurie’s portrayal of a mother with a contentious relationship with her daughter, she also had a memorable turn as the feisty mother of Christine Baranski’s character, Dr. Nora on the sitcom Frasier. Too bad, there doesn’t seem to be a clip of her on YouTube yelling “You Lil’ Whooore!” at Baranski’s character Dr. Nora. The inflections of her voice was iconic in and of itself. Here is a clip of her speaking about her experience on Frasier and how she apparently made the producers nervous about her.

Yup, as a Gen-X'er, my first exposure to her was indeed her role as Carrie's zealot loon mother in Carrie. Scared the bejeesus out of me!

However, before he became a big star [and revealed himself to be a piece of s**t!], Mel Gibson and Piper Laurie starred in the movie, Tim, about a mentally disabled man that falls for an older woman. This was the late '70s/early '80s, apparently. (It was remade as a TV movie here in the '90s with Candice Bergen having the role Piper Laurie played.)

The latter was a novel before the film by Colleen McCullough who, naturally, was more well known for The Thorn Birds.

And Ron sort of did like a half-assed rewrite to bring them together. Apparently, Stephanie had never met Alex until 2022, even though she already knew Sonny, Joe and Vic
    • Friday Thoughts:    June and Hayley are going to turn out to be related, or else why the casting on June's character if not for that.  Their voices and mannerisms are similar and Marquita had mentioned in an interview that we would be finding out more about Hayley's backstory.   Tomas/Eva/Kat is for sure going to be moving full steam ahead.. and I can't wait

Dani/Bill = yawn    Bill/Smitty = Interest reeved up and we all know that means the secret involving Martin/Smitty/Anita is kicking into high gear for May sweeps. Vanessa/Nicole = A satisfying friendship scene.. and Nicole's statement about Vanessa's outside interests.. I did not see that coming Nicole/Andre = I noticed that Andre volunteered knowing about the affair, but managed to withhold the nugget of information where he had convinced Ted not to confess to Nicole. Dani/Ted = This perked my interest Nicole/Silk Press Sheila = A great way to end a Friday episode.  Sometimes grandma's soaps shouldn't be discarded, but followed. Martin/Smitty = Kat is right that Smitty is too good for Martin.. and Martin did act as though he missed his afternoon nap. Ashley/Derek = Unpopular opinion.. I actually kind of missed them.   I view their scenes as a great way to kickstart a drinking game... take a shot anytime you wonder to yourself what is the point to their characters and/or either one of them says something cringey.  You'll be guaranteed to be buzzing by the end of the episode Previews for next week: Looks like Nicole has found out about Dani/Andre's FWB set up? Kat vs Silk Press Sheila looks promising.
    • I think it depends on whether the character has a passionate fanbase. A character like Ava always has people who will defend her and back her up, as does a character like Nina (when they used to write for Nina, anyway). Dante doesn't.
    • Go 'head, Martin!! GATHER.   Oh my goodness!!! Now we are getting Bill/Smitty. The combos today.
    • Yeah; I feel like, in previous regimes, it wasn't as consistent as this. You could go episodes without it changing. I just hate the random indent on the secondary head writer.
    • Got it. I vaguely remember this being discussed. I guess it's fair.
    • Why does this Smitty/Kat talk feel like foreshadowing what's coming with Martin's Secret?   Hahaha. Not Kat and Tomas keep getting business in their way. And uh oh...Eva.   Oh, there's Ashley and Derek. Mmmm those pants.   And ooooooooo another Ted/Martin scene. YES, PLEASE.   Andre...no, no, no!!!! This is going to come back on you with Dani!!
    • I believe in the separation of church and soap.
    • Danny and Rocco..... and Lulu(who usually annoys the heck out of me) were the best thing about today's boring episode. Even Sasha and Willow's were

I'm all for the long game, but this is stuff is going on and on and on..........
    • Definitely. Paul and Eric said as much in their zoom in January. I think October might see the real vision of the new team.
