I don't think Brooke&Deacon was long-term plan back then. It looked like an act of desparation/Brad being bored with "Throoke" - and kaboom Brooke threw herself at Ridge again. The Deacon pairing then made perfect sense because he was genuine and hot - and she super desperate after Ridge turned her down, though.

It was completely stupid and out of the blue. There was no actual reason to break up Thorne and Brooke except that Brad Bell is forever creatively bankrupt.

Question, I just read on social that Flannery protested the Andy story, in fact she was so pissed about it she took a leave from the show (which they claimed was medical) - does anyone know if that is true? If so, I don't blame her at all. I had long quit the show by then but I knew the general story points.

I forgot RJ existed tbh.

Brad is so awful. He seems to think Brooke's only relevant child is Hope. He never had any interest in RJ and hasn't cared about Bridget in years and Jacob Young is off contract isn't he?

A lot of old episodes are coming up in my recommended videos on YouTube and I have one question: How the hell did this show get away with Lesley Anne Down and Jack Wagner as mother and son? How insulting to her, his face looks like the Grand Canyon.

Onscreen it worked quite well for the first two years or so. Nicks entrance was really different as the sea captain and he and Brooke made a great duo with the cute Hope twins...

then, Nick went to hell as a character (and Jack Wagner started to look rough) and just as Jackie finally got somehow interesting with Eric, they stuck her with Massimo. Blech! The brief Deacon romance was fun,  but then only Jackie’s INDULGENCE with Owen made a good story. I didn’t hate Jackie as Sally 2.0

Today's repeat had Usher singing one of his early hits, "My Way". He was only 19 in this episode and he had such a baby face. Amber was all thirsty fangirl when Usher serenaded her

Adrienne Frantz singing was always rather low energy LOL but the early Amber stories were pretty good (her being brought in through Sheila, then Rick/CJ/Raymond, the baby switch, Tawny/Becky...) even though she was quite the airtime hogger. And Frantz while not the most accomplished actress was decent to good as an actress in those storylines.

I always found her voice extremely annoying even though the stories were good. I vividly remember her sobbing over two tiny caskets (her first child she lost where the father was undetermined and the other she lost with Rick), it was heartbreaking.

Gotta admit they really made Usher's cameo count. It drove months of story. First they slept together and then the who's the daddy with Rick. She went out to the valley to give birth just in case the baby looked like Usher, but the baby died without access to medical care. It just so happened that cousin Becky also had a baby, so she stole that one, which eventually brought Deacon onto the show. I can't remember a guest appearance that had deep ramifications like this one did.

    • @alwaysAMC Great mini-review as always.  That Gilly story is...certainly one I could not forget... I imagine a number of viewers were shocked with the temporary recast. It was revealed in the soap magazines, as was the news about Frank Beaty's breakdown, I think. I think Wolf had some statements or an interview at the time but very little. I wish someone could interview him. He did a good job under extremely tough circumstances.  For some reason I have a vague memory of him in the Marian getup but that's probably not right.  I'm glad you have appreciated the material with Susan after a shaky start. I always enjoyed her, and she was the only love interest I liked Nick with.

    • https://www.instagram.com/p/DJJTEW8J5EA/ 1989 Daytime Emmys Victoria Wyndham gives moving tribute to Douglas Watson, AW's Mac Cory Harding "Pete" Lemay created the character Mac Cory & then Doug Watson played him for 15 years. When Doug died on May 1st, 1989, it was a huge loss to the show, the other actors & also to the fans.

    • Jonathan Kellerman is definitely the most EON/Slesar-like writer in the business right now.  Unfortunately, he's almost 80 years old.  Interestingly, he has a son (Jesse Kellerman) who's about 45, who's been studying under him.  I believe what makes the Kellermans such effective mystery & crime writers is their background in psychology.
    • I never understood the point of Marchetti. Summer left the show for a job there in Italy. OK. When she returned they had Jack buy the company. Why couldn't Summer have returned and simply stated it was not a good fit, she missed her home , family/friends etc It was absurd that this internationally successful fashion empire could just be bought by a US cosmetics firm at the drop of a hat. What was the point when they never did anything with it at all? Summer simply could have gone to work at Jabot. And wasn't there some nonsense about an offshhoot called Marchetti Home? Was Phyllis attached to that at some point? This show...

    • Haven't seen today's ep yet but so will be interested to see the clothes. So far I think they have been very character specific (even if I don't like some of them eg Kat's cutsie style) Anita is very showy/glittery, Nicole classic elegance, Dani sexy/bold colors etc. Unlike Y&R which seems much more generic. Also BTG pays attention to the men's wardrobe and has developed a style for the boyz-which is harder to do with male fashion. The absence of any of Derek/Ashley at any of these big events again demonstrates how they are in a different universe to the rest of the show. Not that a nurse and a fireman would be there but still they seem destined at this point to stay in their own lane and have little interaction with the core of the show.
    • Agnes had written for Bernard Grant for many years on TGL as well as Ernest Graves and Joe Gallison,Doris Belack,Robert Milli, and  Antony Ponzini at AW. So she would probably gravitate to writing a role with an actor in mind or choosing someone she had written for before who she knew could deliver.
