Haha I have that book and I know there’s a couple glaring omissions(for example Jason Carter nor Molly Stark are not listed despite having a minor D-story in 1986) and as you mentioned several of the dates are wayyyyyy off. But it is pretty comprehensive overall for the first 25 years!

My Most Memorable Moments book’s cast list is just as bad, it doesn’t even list Bond Gideon for Jill nor have all the Greg’s listed LOL.

Yes! It says:  Charles De Vries, 1982; Carl Strano 1983

Even this is inaccurate, though... the first Max, Charles De Vries, made an appearance in an early '83 clip, so really it should be 1982-83

Cannot believe the terrible 2010 Y&R episode with the Lauren doppelganger (Sheila's sister??) had the gall to directly quote actual dialogue from Orson Welles' incredible The Lady from Shanghai while also ripping off its famous funhouse hall of mirrors sequence. They gave Evil Lauren some of Everett Sloane's dialogue. If soaps are going to lift from classic film, make sure the story is good!

LOL @Vee MAB & Co. never ever had an original thought ever!  Almost all of her stories were redos and ripoffs from previous Y&R stories, while Sheffer recycled his trashy ATWT and Days stories while Hamner(he did not inherit his father Earl Jr.'s talent at all!) borrowed elements from movies and primetime. In addition to the above, I seem to recall Cane/Caleb's death was ripoffed from The Untouchables, Kevin and Chloe's courtship was a blatant ripoff from Pretty in Pink(they even called themselves Andie and Duckie!) and Victor and Genevieve were originally planned to do An Affair to Remember before it was thrown out last minute.

Perhaps the only original story the three of them told was the volcano story. It also probably remains the worst story ever screened on Y&R

Im liking the Christine appreciation. She was a great adversary to Phyliss in comparison to Sharon. Cricket is way too serious and humorless these days. The JT storyline also reflected negatively on her. She spent her days in legal aid defending women from abuse now she's prosecuting them. Likewise she helped Sharon back in the day now she's prosecuting her. To me, Michael Baldwin (had he retained his edge) would function better as a nasty and aggressive prosecutor, than Christine who has deeper ties to the canvas.

Finally on Cassie’s death. After finally seeing Cassie as a child because of the classics and how hard they fought to get Cassie, it’s really well done and super sad. All three actors: Case, Morrow, and Grimes delivered amazingly. I’m not as down on Morrow as most people, but this is easily the best work of his career. That haunting version of Nadia’s theme after she flatlines...chills.

And I know Nick and Sharon love their other kids, but they REALLLLLY loved Cassie.

I hate that it was the catalyst to PHICK, who is probably my least favorite soap pairing.

Some really good observations, the one about the deep love that Sharon and Nick had for Cassie offers some food for thought. When I think about it, I think it might have been because Cassie was the child that they had to fight for after choosing to be her parents. Noah was kind of a surprise that almost everyone blamed Sharon for- presumably to trap Nick into committing to fatherhood and family prematurely (how ironic, considering the role that Nick would devote himself the most to is that of a father). Even Faith, who was yanked away from Sharon at birth, courtesy of Adam, referred to herself as a "love-child", she was unplanned. Sharon and Nick very much decided to fight for the chance to be Cassie's parents.

Judging from the livestream that all three actors did awhile back when they discussed those hospital scenes, J.M. knows that this was his best work.

And same about "Phick" on All Of It!

    • As it happens, 40 years ago this week, ABC and CBS revealed their 1985-86 fall schedules. NBC revealed theirs the week before. ABC's would end up changing. The original plan for Tuesdays was to have Diff'rent Strokes lead the night, with He's the Mayor at 8:30, followed by Who's the Boss at 9, Growing Pains at 9:30, and Moonlighting at 10. There was some surprise over MacGruder & Loud not getting renewed, but it was considered part of Aaron Spelling's declining influence at the network. Yes, Dynasty was still a hit (for a while longer), but Aaron's shows steadily took up less and less of the schedule. Fall 1984: Seven hours, five of which were new programming (Dynasty, Hotel, Glitter, Matt Houston, T.J. Hooker, The Love Boat, Finder of Lost Loves; MacGruder & Loud aired at midseason, by which time Glitter was gone.). Fall 1985: Five hours, two of which were new programming (Dynasty, Hotel, The Colbys, Hollywood Beat, The Love Boat). Fall 1986: Three-and-a-half hours, a half-hour of which was new programming (Dynasty, Hotel, The Colbys, Life With Lucy). Fall 1987: Two hours, none of which was new programming (Dynasty and Hotel; HeartBeat premiered at midseason). Fall-winter 1988: Two hours, none of which was new programming (Dynasty and HeartBeat). This led to Variety's infamous shady headline in spring 1989: "Aaron's Dynasty Over"
    • I hope for a multi-year renewal, too! This is the only show I've been excited to see the next episode in forever. Considering their demos are quite decent. the initial episodes showed there is still an interest in daytime, and it has helped to boost the rest of the soap line up at times, it should be around for a while.

    • I agree.  How many times did we have to watch Bobby vs. J.R., or Blake vs. Alexis, knowing that nothing would change at the end, and that everything would go back to status quo, so that they could fight the same, exhausting battles all over again?  If nothing else, I give FC and KL credit for trying to keep things fresh, even if I think FC, in particular, went too far in the other direction and became unrecognizable even to the most diehard fans. Exactly.  Plus, because viewers were so burned out by the kind of serialized storytelling that was beginning to affect even half-hour comedies, I think MSW represented a nice change of pace.  You didn't have to watch every week, or watch from the beginning of each season, to know what was going on with Miss Fletcher.  Instead, you could watch a complete story in one episode, de-stress from whatever had happened in your own life last week, gear yourself up for the week ahead, and be okay. If you notice, though, there were differences between those two shows and what Aaron Spelling had produced in the past.  For one thing, there was a greater emphasis on youth; and while characters on 90210 and MP certainly had more disposable incomes than the average viewer, their wealth wasn't as opulent as what we'd seen on DYNASTY or on "Hart to Hart."  Even the battles among Alison, Amanda, Billy and others at that advertising agency weren't as histrionic as those between Denver Carrington and ColbyCo.
    • I saw a conversation yesterday with Liam with the 7 dwarves hat and Steffy -  I know she did not say re: Hope and Liam said - well look at Finn and you forgave him right?      I know I did not hear Steffy say “well but you can’t compare that to…”  For *uck sake someone call the bitch out!?     You’re right, we shouldn’t compare your forgiveness for the dude with devil spawn seed whose daughter locked you in a cage along with crazy stepmom/mom/Grandmother who has also SHOT YOU BOTH - and multiple murder attempts but you have to exist with them / Hope’s part in a takeover which you know was FAR LESS THAN CARTER BECAUSE HOPE IS NOT AN ATTORNEY…. Goodness no, no the same thing at alllllllll.   When they do Steffy’s absence at least let it be because they all find out what a manipulative ho she is in her own right.
    • I think a lot of us still agree with that. I do hope that the resurgence in the soap world with Beyond the Gates will push ABC to either bring back these shows or produce a newer one.
    • So, this was fun. Elsewhere, friendly to polls, a poll on what do you want to see at the Nurses Ball. The Gio reveal got 18%, for Blaze to return & sing also got 18%, for Jennifer Hudson to do a cameo & sing got 10% and for Lucy to lose various parts of clothing got 9% but the huge one was the reveal of Drew/Nina sex which got a whopping 45%!
    •   I liked the effect of the curtains closing. Yeah it was like the end of Act I.   Or maybe they are simply trying to emphasize the drama of the end of an episode -- instead of a random abrupt end that has happened in some prior episodes.
    • I posted this in the behind the scenes thread but I know this thread is busier so wanted to mention it here as well. During their instagram live yesterday, Daphnee Duplaix and Trisha Mann-Grant mentioned that they will find out this month if the show is renewed for another season. Just a heads up so we can keep an eye out for an announcement and keep our fingers crossed for a multi-year renewal!
    • They haven't explained the ownership of the Bistro, but Doug told Holly the other day he didn't get the job there. Basically Roman just hired Doug on the spot and gave him a room.  It was really nice of Roman.  I don't know if he knows who Doug is or that he stole Julie's necklace.  That was unclear-at least to me. ETA-I feel like the Bistro might just die and people will just pretend to order food there like Leo did today.  Sophia is on bed rest so no one works there anymore.  They can use that set for something else.
