Y&R to air classic episodes

The red opening is called the porn opening for obvious reasons, but why can’t I find a clip of one of the very first versions of the 2003 white opening? It featured a right close-up of MTS having...ahem...the time of her life. A few weeks later, it was replaced with her Peter Pan poses.

Yes. YouTube appears to have crashed. I was trying to watch HTGAWM clips before tonight's finale and it kept saying the Olivia Pope vs Annalise clip was unavailable, but yet kept playing it when I refreshed. Now it seems down down.

And let's not forget Nick mistakingly sleeping with Grace before he did it of his own free will.

Why, yes, I had Cinemax so I get the obvious reason it was called that.

???

I was trying to compare the more blatantly sexual red opening with the not outwardly sexual opening that followed on the basis of Melody Thomas Scott's breathless moans. I don't think I was addressing anyone in particular...

God, how wonderful it is to rewatch such a classic in really crisp HD. And such great storylines: The yearlong takeover arriving at another unforgettable climax ("I will crush you!"). So soapy but it's the great acting by Bergman that sells those last few moments. He looks terrified. Mac and Katherine; a great story that led to even better things. Sexy Jill and Malcolm flirting. And you can say all you want about Christine (and I have), but the scenes about her not being pregnant were rather touching thanks to beautiful execution. They also seem to have only cut one scene. This recaptured the feeling I had 20 years ago watching this. It hurts my soul the show in all its HD glory isn't streaming on AA.

It's something else to see classic scenes in context!

Yes, it took Jack and Brad nine months of scheming/planning to take over Newman, a further 4 months for this confrontation, and 3 more for it to be resolved and spun into Jabot vs Newman. Brilliant business storytelling.

    • I am a couple days behind, but is it just me or do some of the glimpses of Martin's nightmare look like a police traffic stop?
    • IIRC, there was fan outcry when viewers realized Donna was going to be killed, although someone more in the know might have a better idea. Donna was always more popular with viewers than she probably should have been, which I credit Stuart for. I do agree she would have been easier to write out than Felicia or Rachel.  Cass and Donna dated briefly during the Malone run (late 1997). http://www.anotherworldhomepage.com/cassd.html AW should have invested much more in Quinn than they did. All the pieces were in place for her to, at the very least, have a steady build in importance the way Jessica did on ATWT at that time. AW had moved away from usual patterns by bringing Henrietta and Quinn into the show to diversify the canvas. What always bothers me is the comment an AW person gave to SOD after fan complaints over Quinn's death - essentially, they did not know Quinn had any fans. Says it all.
    • I like that the Martin story hasn't been frequent.  The nightmares are airing only periodically.  Each time, we viewers see more of the accident or whatever happened.  I think we might (or at least I might) be annoyed if we saw the nightmares too often.  At this point, I've become more curious, and so, when it's finally revealed, I think the timing will be just right.
    • Total agreement.  But wasn't AW wonderful with all those servants?  Louise, Brooks, Rocky, Karl (never seen), Beatrice, Helga, Sven, Vivian, etc.  None of the post-Lemay servants ever seemed to resonate, nor did any of them last very long.  I do think BTG would benefit from casting at least one servant for Anita and Vernon.  And perhaps another for Nicole and Ted.  The show needs more have-nots for the different perspective.
    • Interesting, I didn't know the origins of their "friendship." Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Linda Dano or Felicia, but maybe the show would have been better off if they killed off Felicia instead of Quinn and built around her. Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't OLTL & ATWT pretty white at that time? Of all the stuff they threw at walls during that time to see what stuck, appealing to Black viewers seemed like a no-brainer. Especially since NBC had success at that time in Primetime with The Cosby Show & 227. Even in the mornings with Bryant Gumbel on Today. Of course, didn't have to be an either/or. I didn't mean to convey that Donna's isolation was the reason. Rachel, Felicia & Donna were all rich, 50ish brunettes whose characters started bleeding together by that point. Granted, mostly due to the bad writing of the writers she hired. Of the 3, getting rid of Donna would have been by far the easiest as VW had the most longevity/caused the biggest uproar; and Dano was the face of the show to the industry (and her favorite of the bunch). Thanks for the info of the alcoholism story. It was right before I started watching so I've only seen the clips of the intervention. Don't remember Cass & Donna at all. Was it last year of the show before he got with Lila? I was mostly checked out at that point.

    • Phillip/Harley made more sense as friends (as they were portrayed to be during the Pam Long era).. and I could even buy them being a short-term couple.. but end game they were not. Didn't GA say he thought it out of character that he would choose Harley over Beth.. or that he would leave Beth/Lizzie back in AZ in order for him to chase a vendetta?  I know that when Beth Chamberlain came back as Beth in late 1997, she was told instantly that the writing would be slanted toward Phillip/Harley.. which surprised her as well. When the Lorelei story came up, it actually made all of her out there/out of character behavior Beth displayed from 1997/1998 through the early/mid 00s make sense.  I liked that the final months of the show, Beth became more like Beth of old so at least the show ended on a positive for her character.
