September 1978, Nebraska-South Dakota-Iowa:

SEARCH FOR TOMORROW aired at 3:30 p.m. (after Match Game '78) on KELO in Sioux Falls, since the station had an hour newscast from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

ALL MY CHILDREN aired on a one-day delay at 9 a.m. on KCAU in Sioux City and KHGI in Kearney. The stations ran news and The Cross-Wits at 12.

The soaps all aired in pattern on the NBC stations. I'm a little surprised nobody dropped For Richer, For Poorer, but I guess the attitude was to just let it play out its run. Of note: three of the five stations aired Donahue rather than the 9-10 a.m. hour of the network midday lineup, Card Sharks and Hollywood Squares (eventually Jeopardy!). KMTV in Omaha also appears to have passed on the network Wheel of Fortune to run the syndicated Gong Show at 10:30.

Nashville, plus northern Mississippi and Alabama, September 1977:

WOWL, the NBC station in Florence, Alabama, also aired ATWT and GL. The two CBS soaps came after the network lineup, resulting in a unique afternoon: DOOL at 12:30, DOCTORS at 1:30, AW at 2, The Gong Show at 3, ATWT at 3:30 and GL at 4:30. I wonder how long this arrangement lasted, especially since all the CBS stations listed aired all the soaps.

WHMA, the CBS station in Anniston, aired The PTL Club at the lead-in to LOL, with TPIR airing at 4:30 after Tattletales.

Oklahoma City, November 1980

KTVY 4 (NBC)

9:00am - The John Davidson Show
10:00am - Hour Magazine
11:00am - Card Sharks
11:30am - Dannysday
12:00am - Action 4 at Noon
12:30pm - Days of Our Lives
1:30pm - Another World
2:30pm - Texas
3:30pm - Tom and Jerry

KOCO-TV 5 (ABC)

9:00am - Donahue
10:00am - The Love Boat
11:00am - All My Children (day-behind from 12:00pm)
12:00pm - 5 Alive NewsCenter at Noon
12:30pm - Ryan's Hope (one-hour delay)
1:00pm - One Life to Live
2:00pm - General Hospital
3:00pm - The Edge of Night
3:30pm - Happy Days Again

KWTV 9 (CBS)

9:00am - The Jeffersons
9:30am - Alice
10:00am - The Price is Right
11:00am - The Young and the Restless
12:00pm - Midday
1:00pm - As The World Turns
2:00pm - Guiding Light
3:00pm - I Love Lucy
3:30pm - The Toni Tennille Show

So at some point between July 1979 and November 1980, KTVY dropped THE DOCTORS, but then brought it back sometime before June 1982. Also, KWTV's midday news, which aired at 11:30 a.m. in July 1979 (instead of SEARCH) evidently got moved up a half-hour when Y&R expanded. It appears to have stayed an hour until CAPITOL debuted. I guess this partially explains why KTVY didn't pick up SEARCH -- why bother bringing back a show that hadn't aired in your market for years?

Americus, Georgia, was an early adopter of Cablevision. Here's the morning and early afternoon lineup from September 1970.

Twelve channels total for $5.95 a month, but, being early cable, there were many repeats. Dothan was in the cable package. I'm not sure if their listings are for eastern or central time.

WALB (10) was probably also running Somerset at 4, but the listing neglected to include them in that slot.

My relatives lived in that area, and I seem to recall one summer when visiting (1996), I saw a commercial on this station for Bold & Beautiful airing at 11:30am. At the time, I didn't know if everything aired one hour earlier (as I wasn't sure it was on Mountain Time Zone or not) or if B&B just aired earlier than usual here.

L.A., September 1974:

Nothing unusual with KNXT (CBS) and KNBC's lineups. KABC and KEYT (Santa Barbara), however, deviated significantly.

11:00 The Girl in My Life (where Password would be)
11:30 $10,000 Pyramid (where Split Second would be)
12:00 Password (where AMC would be)
12:30 Split Second (where Let's Make a Deal would be)
1:00 All My Children (where Newlywed Game would be)
1:30 Let's Make a Deal (where Girl in My Life would be)
2:00 Newlywed Game (where GH would be)
2:30 One Life to Live (in its right slot)
3:00 General Hospital (where Pyramid would be)

December 1994

WINK, Fort Myers, was another CBS station airing Y&R at 4 p.m.

Seattle, May 1992

DAYS aired at 9 a.m. on KING, opposite Regis & Kathie Lee on KOMO (ABC) and Geraldo on KIRO (CBS). AW and SANTA BARBARA aired in pattern at 1 and 2 p.m.

B&B was not airing at 12:30 p.m. on KIRO, but rather on independent station KTZZ.

Earlier in the thread a June 1988 listing for Seattle had Days at 3 pm. I'm guessing that it moved to 9 am after the supercouple era ended and the kids watching after school lost interest. I wonder if Days went back to 3 pm during the Reilly sci-fi era when the kids were watching again.

So Seattle got B&B in 1992? I was so sure that B&B started in Seattle in 1994, or maybe that's when the CBS station started broadcasting it. We know Capitol did not air on the CBS station in Seattle so maybe an independent station broadcast Capitol there.

Looks like a misprint.

Here's a September 1970 listing of a few of the channels from another area newspaper. Not much of the area could actually pick up the lone ABC station over the air. The first southwest Georgia dedicated ABC station was another decade from springing up.

Saw a promo where Days moves to 1 in Pittsburgh to make room for Judge Judy reruns. Hopefully people will eventually realize they're all repeats now. Days has been at 3 here since the mid-90s. We've always been a Y&R household but that show's so dull I don't think they really follow it anymore

Madison, Wisconsin, end of October 1971:

WISC (CBS) aired the "Farm Hour" at noon, followed by the syndicated What's My Line? in place of Love is a Many Splendored ThingThe Guiding Light aired in pattern and As The World Turns aired at 3:30, after Gomer Pyle, USMC reruns and as the lead-in to a local children's show. I wonder how many Madison residents of a certain age became young ATWT fans, not to mention if this move happened in response to Dark Shadows' popularity a few years earlier.

WMTV (NBC; "I want my Channel 15!") and WKOW (ABC; if that station didn't have a cow mascot at some point, I don't know what's what) aired everything in pattern.

Friday, May 3, 1985, North and South Carolina:

You could watch RYAN'S HOPE at 10 a.m. (after Donahue) on WWAY in Wilmington, which aired Jeopardy! at noon. Or you could see RH at 11:30 (after All-Star Blitz) on WRAL in Raleigh, which apparently dropped Family Feud and aired news at noon. WPDE in Florence aired RH at noon, between Family Feud and LOVING.

Everything aired in pattern on the CBS stations in Durham and Florence.

WECT, NBC's Wilmington station, aired all four soaps, but didn't air Sale of the Century (for the syndicated Name That Tune) and Super Password (for news). WPTF in Durham nearly aired all of the network lineup, but passed on SANTA BARBARA, airing The Pink Panther and Inspector Gadget instead.

    • The thing that I am stuck on is that the in studio scenes in Egypt started airing in mid-October. It seems very strange that they would have planned to have a couple of weeks of studio scenes airing before they started showing location footage. Normally even though some scenes in a remote-infused storyline are in studio, they would start airing a mixture of studio and location footage at the same time. I suspect they had put Arizona in their back pocket well before the Achille Lauro (hence Hawk arriving in September) and possibly moved up the Egypt in-studio action so that the remote Arizona piece unfolded during November. The Achille Lauro may have been the final straw but I would bet it was not the first time they considered the risk. I have found one somewhat contemporaneous reference published on October 19th but pinned to an October 7th* "diary entry" mentioning that the location shoot in Egypt had been changed to Arizona. "International terrorism has its effect on daytime drama, too. Another World producers had scheduled an elaborate and expensive location shoot in Egypt this fall, But with the serious military attacks and hijackings going on, they decided to play it safe. They are going to Arizona instead. The cast members involved were disappointed but understood the decision." *Undated, but specified as the Monday before Melody Thomas's wedding to Ed Scott. But of course it's possible that the first draft referred to Egypt and was revised after October 7th to mention the cancellation before it went to press. But even making the decision the week of October 7th seems tight to get the Egypt scenes to air on the 17th/18th. I would love to find something from a daily news cycle that would be clearer about the dates.
    • So, Maxim, at this moment in time Evan is under the (mistaken) impression that, for no good reason, Rachel murdered his mother, in cold blood, and his ulterior motive for coming to Bay City is to get vengeance for this wrong that was done to his family & him.  Now, Rachel never murdered anyone. Janice had the knife on her & she pulled the knife on Rachel in the fight they were having. The reason they were fighting was because Janice had been poisoning Mac. So, this sets out the difference between the Frame family version of events & reality as the rest of us know it to be. Also no one in Bay City knows Evan is Janice's son. He goes by Evan Bates, not Frame.

Janice Frame is Evan's mother. Janice & Mac were together. Janice was up to no good. Mitch was helping her. She was slowly, little by little, every day, POISONING Mac. She was almost successful. In St. Croix, Rachel & Janice began what was literally a physical fight. They fell into the resort swimming pool, continuing to fight each other. Somehow, I guess Janice had it on her, there was a knife in play but Rachel kept Janice from stabbing her & got it away from her & they continued to struggle until Rachel stabbed Janice, which was a death blow. Mitch did a 180 & helped Rachel get Mac to the hospital. He was so weakened by the poison he could not even stand unassisted. It took both of them together to walk him to the hospital but it did save his life.  The St. Croix remote was SO beautiful, but so dangerous & scary. Also action-packed. Hooray! Maxim's backSo, I just got home & this is what I found waiting for me. I wrote this several hours ago. I guess I neglected to hit send.
