Days: March 2019 Discussion Thread⌛

I'm convinced were never going to see FS weight loss. His just going to get bigger and bigger. Until he crushes Will doing one of their passionless lovemaking sessions. But all kidding aside. There's no chemistry or sexuality generating from them. Unlike Paul & Will. Who had a spark too them.

Rex actually ran out of the shower to answer the door? Who does that? They couldn't come up with a better excuse to get him shirtless?

That Shelly chick is the dumbest nurse alive.

The Gabi/Stefan stuff is SO forced. They're trying so hard to make it seem like they have chemistry and like there's sexual tension... but they don't and there's not.

And the smiles in that photo? Those are not guys who care about acting. They’re th3 smiles of guys literally laughing at the material — and that’s infuriating. They did a scene with Rikaart and pulled the same crap, while Greg was the only one to truly perform.

And no, I can’t give them a pass because the writing isn’t  up to their standards — whatever that is. If you’ve seen Riverdale, you know the plots are ludicrous, yet the actors play it straight and make it work.

Chandler and Freddie are not serious actors, and they should both be fired for this garbage. When they leave Days, they’ll never work again.

I'm slowly making my way through the end of February's episodes... re: Sonny/Will... I guess they run out of bronzing shellac after coating down Eric Martsolf and Kyle Lowder, because Chandler and Freddie always look so pasty pale.

I just don't get the motivation. Are they trying to look as home grown slice of life as possible and portraying these guys as unshowered schmucks from po-dunk middle America who don't mean no harm, but just like to bump uglies with each other to keep them "less threatening" to the wary homophobic geriatrics watching?

Regarding when Freddie's weight loss will be evident on screen it will be some time in the summer. When he first started losing a significant amount of weight he was taping summer shows.

Also as a Freddie/Sonny fan I do wish he would sport a beard as I think he looks better and actually younger with one. He actually looks older clean shaven, especially when they style his hair certain ways. They have been styling him in a way that makes him look closer to middle age.  I think in IRL he prefers the beard but whenever he has to go and tape after some days off he will often say something like "tomorrow the beard will be gone", which indicates he has to shave it. I don't know if that is his choice, for some reason or maybe someone at the show suggests he does that. I don't know but he's better off with facial hair IMHO.

I’m not going to hate on Freddie’s appearance, but I will say that sometimes when you’re heavier, facial hair can add dimension and shape to your face. When I was carrying a few more pounds, my beard helped contain that formless  facial spread.

I think that beards often help shape/frame many men's facial features nicely. A lot of men look better with beards. (Heck most men may even look better with facial hair.) Here is a couple of recent pics of Freddie with a beard. I think he looks better with this look than the clean shaven look he has on the show:

Keep the trimmed beard and stop slicking the hair back. That’ll improve his look right there.

Chandler needs to comb and use a lil product on his hair, wardrobe needs to lose the 90’s flannel grundge and baggy pants and use some bronzer. If they’re gonna take the time painting Martsolf and Lowder, they can spend the same time on their eunuchs.

It’s 2019. They don’t need to play so safe with their gay couple. They can have traits and interests that aren’t so “regular straight male.”  The one single flamboyant gay with a personality is the oversexed villain. There’s a happy medium somewhere; find it.

And can they PLEASE stop fixing his hair like they do. It's so petty of me but I can't stand the bangs. He looks ridiculous. And why do they dress him horribly?

I wish, but it seems all gays must be plain and boring. I don't mind because I'm plain and boring, LOL, but some variety would be really nice. At least Leo's entertaining as hell. But your right, there's a happy medium somewhere. Soaps just aren't progressive. In fact they're often the complete opposite. It's a shame. The format that used to be ahead of it's time can't seem to evolve (a lot of it is viewers not letting them; I doubt the networks care as much, personally)

It's difficult to stomach the show. I mean, when soaps could talk about real-life social issues for discussion, it was done with a sense of realistic perfection in my opinion. But this immigration storyline is so stupid that I don't see any redemption at all from these characters like Jack and Eve. Or, even Claire for that matter. Jack has amnesia or whatever, but Eve and Claire have internalized microaggressions and racial biases towards people of color? Seriously. Get the #*c! out of here.

I do not like the character of Sarah probably because she's Maggie's daughter, but she's also so irritating that I want to smack her hard into next week. And "couples" on this show get paired together like instant coffee it's pathetic. For example, you expect ME, a DAYS viewer, to root for Chloe and Stefan when all that happened to Stefan was that he got lightly shot by the side of his arm from "an evil-doer Mexican"? Wait. I think I just discovered another racial undertone on this show, and I'm merely here trying to talk about how pathetic the writers are by their lack of character development. And now Hope sees a new light in Ben? Give me a break.

    • I agree that she isn't Dixie or Rosanna and shouldn't be acting like either. I just found it strange that she had a naive Southern character and a wealthy urbane character in the past and didn't experiment with accents before (unless I missed it, correct me if I'm wrong). She used to do improv characters on YouTube. She's probably doing something similar here.

    • And here I thought I'd never think about Lauren Tewes again after her brief appearance in Twin Peaks Season 3.
    • I may be the single person who does not mind Transatlantic Campy Pamela. I think it perfectly suits this sort of Absolutely Fabulous-esque supporting character she's playing much more than it did when Cady tried weird and often broad stuff at AMC* or Y&R, or later stints at ATWT. She's not Dixie and she's not trying to be. I will freely admit some of the other chances she took at other shows often came off stiff, hammy or downright mortifying (Kelly Andrews, come on down). (* - and I say that as one of the few who was somewhat into Cady trying to make Dixie more cosmopolitan in the Rosanna Cabot mold in mid-2000s AMC, just to liven the character up again)
    • There’s absolutely nothing exciting happening storyline wise but I’m always happy to see the vets on my screen so I’ll take what I can get. It’s also just nice to see them all dressed up in the same room, it always gives classic Y&R vibes. The best part? No Phyllis.

    • Well now we had Ashley's reaction-and weren't we all gasping when she appeared to hate it-but she was just joking!! She loved it. Now we have to see Abby's reaction, and maybe Mamie could come back to say she loves it. How about Jill via Zoom giving her opinion (she'll love it) and bring in a day player to play Mrs Martinez to say she loves it also... I feel bad to keep dumping on this show (not really) but when the choices they make are so inane, it's the only entertainment value the show has. Let's unpack the Nikki birthday story. So Claire wants to throw her Nana a birthday bash as away of endearing Kyle to Victor. Don't quite get the logic there, but OK. She hires a party planner who makes ridiculous suggestions. Slightly annoyed that Y&R are hiring someone for this role for 5 episodes when we never see doctors, co- workers etc. But OK to that to. With all the talk we are expecting something special. What we get is the Jazz Lounge hideously decorated with some ugly tablecloths and a few tacky decorations. They needed a planner for this? Then the guest list consists of family members (no grandchildren)and a few others. Hardly a party. As usual the costuming is pretty awful. A red and black theme ? And our guest of honor is sporting a do that looks like a cross between Cameron Diaz in Something about Mary and Marie from Roxette. They should have had an intimate dinner and ditched all the fanfare. Would have been way more believable.

    • Her accent sounds horrible and doesn't fit in line with the character or the dialogue. I was just messing around on YouTube and perusing early Tad and Dixie videos. Notably, Dixie, a resident of Pigeon Hollow, West Virginia, has no discernible accent. i have no idea why she would add a defunct accent to this character now. I want to do an honest survey here. I watch BTG every day and I love it. It's not perfect, but I find it 99% entertaining. For those that find fault with it - what is actually bothering you? I'm not going to argue at all, or disagree with you. I just want to know what others are seeing that I'm not.
    • It's a choice and today, she made it more British than ever before. It's almost like she's making Pamela act like how she thinks she should be acting.
