Y&R: RIP Kristoff St John

It seemed like Bill Bell had a habit of "testing the waters" when it came to new characters....I guess that's why when Heather Tom came on, she went from recurring to contract like Kristoff. It seemed like years later casting Sharon was more of a challenge.

Not true.

Like when Y&R began a story with Adam only to drop it as soon as JM renewed his contract. Same thing with pairing JM with a new character during his contract issues.

There were similar situations when they paired Nikki & Bobby and JIll & Larry, etc.

Stories stop, start, shift & change for all sorts of reasons.

Just saw the NAACP Image Award nominations came out today, and somehow I didn’t realize the daytime categories had been retired in 2015, which is its own indictment of the genre’s lack of inclusion. KSJ won 11 times.

It really took them too long to retire the categories, because some of the nominations in the later years were given to people who barely had any screen time.

Yeah. Tatyana Ali won multiple times for essentially a day player role on name recognition alone. (I wish the Emmys would catch up and cut some of the daytime drama categories like Younger Actor/Actress, but they’ve been  *adding* them.)

I can only imagine how both his real-life family and Y&R family are struggling right now. KSJ was on Y&R for over half his life, and can't imagine how the cast and crew must have felt leaving work on Friday the first only to wake up to the horrible news on Monday morning. The Y&R people have gone through so much these past few months - such as Doug Davidson being let go after 40 years on the show, Tracey Bregman losing her house to the wildfire, Tricia Cast's husband suffering from terminal cancer -  and now this. I didn't want to say it at the time, but I felt after the news broke about the 72-hour psychiatric hold Kristoff was under about a year ago that he wasn't long for this world.

The tributes that have poured in not just from his Y&R family and the B&B folks who tape across the hall from them at CBS, but from the daytime and entertainment industry at large show just how loved and respected he was by almost everyone he crossed paths with, no matter what that person's station in life was. My heart especially goes out to his two daughters.

I am curious as to how Y&R will address Neil's exit (I seriously doubt they will recast - unless they want to face serious mutiny not just from the fans but the actors) and hope that they will bring back Tonya Lee Williams and Shemar Moore for the storyline. (I highly doubt Victoria Rowell will be invited back, but weirder things have happened). Let's just hope it's a story that will be a fitting farewell to both Kristoff and Neil.

Ditto...While it started I then had to shut off in the middle as it was hurting me to see it...I have it taped and will watch but felt it was too much at the moment.

If you give me some time I have loads more and will post in a few days....Glad you like them. I just get a little sad looking and at times I get the courage to post. A little too fresh and emotions go up and down cause it is so fresh, not to mention, we grew with him on screen and he was way way too young.

P.S. Just came back from a concert. Pressing play on the new episode. I hope it's goooood.
    • Yes! I actually started typing something up the other day but ended up not posting. It pretty much said something to the effect of the show feeling like there were a lot of balls in the air, the stories almost felt aimless. I am sure most of these will come to a head soon enough. I also wondered if it had something to do with the changes behind the scenes, but these lulls between major moments truly kill the momentum.
    • Will concede it's moving along slowly, but I am still hinged on every word every second. I refuse to miss anything.  OTOH, I watch GH were things are moving along  little quicker, but I have to FF certain scenes because it's extremely repetitive, where I don't get that from BTG.
    • I am toggling between Apr ‘82 Kay and Nikki, and Aug ‘92 Kay and Nikki… and it is a jarring juxtaposition! Nikki has calcified into a Stepford Wife

    • I've watched the show faithfully since the premiere, but I've found that I've let myself fall behind the past few weeks. It sort of feels like nothing is happening again. Does anyone else feel the same way? I would think for November sweeps they'd be pulling out all the stops.
    • I didn't even watch but saw the recap. I can't believe Billy Flynn has been saddled with all of this. He so deserved better.
    • Vernon was spotted by the worst person possible. Leslie is definitely going to use that to her advantage somehow.
    • Yesss! I cackled when Dr. Walked told Leslie to Google him (check my credentials). What is Elon's issue with Izaiah again? Considering we are supposed to believe that Izaiah was some troubled youth, why wouldn't Elon be gald his son has seemed to mature and has job at a great school. I get that family wounds and patterns can run deep, and somehow Joey was a paternal figure to Izaiah but Izaiah's troubles seem behind him.

    • Yeah. I wasn't feeling it either. If it was meant to be a chem test, it didn't work. I don't think so. Because I think Neil and Liz moved into that house after Stefano "died", and Neil lived there until he went to go see his patients and never came back
