I am glad that Traci is back. She has such a comforting presence. I liked her scenes with Kyle. I also like how she supported Reed during the memorial and reminded him that JT had a lot of good qualities. That meant a lot to him. I also liked Mac's scenes, including her scenes with Reed and Cane. I like how she often checks in with the twins when she comes back. That is a nice nod to her history regarding them.

Also, I think that Kyle and Lola will have more problems in the future. I think that Rey saying they won't last and then Kyle looking disappointed when Lola thanked him for being patient with her for not wanting to sleep with him yet could be foreshadowing problems ahead for them.

And I believe that Arturo and Mia will probably cheat again. And/or realize they still love each other.

I was glad to see Victoria’s entranceway and foyer make a return, and I have noticed the ceilings, which I think create atmosphere.

Still, sets that were diminished, such as the GCAC, need to come back full size. Too many sets were shrunk or eliminated or changed entirely. The new police station is no improvement, and the Ashby house has been reduced to a kitchen.

At some point, Victor and Nikki deserve their own house/ranch, and I miss Victor’s office, too. The wow factor is already gone from the Dark Horse sets, and that meeting room with the ugly orange chairs is awful and cheap.

Rey and Mia’s place is crummy, and Mariah and Tessa’s apt. should be set on fire.

I thought Jason Thompson and Amelia Heinle were awesome today. I was very touched by their scenes. They were soft, almost understated. Kudos to both. Now if there was only a "Phyllis mute" button on the remote control.

It was so nice to have the full set of Victoria's house back again.  It was so cramped and poorly staged with the staircase and front door missing.  And, good job to Mal for the new sitting room set at the Newman Ranch.  I have found his production values to be very unimpressive, but this new set is gorgeous and looks much more befitting of the home of Victor and Nikki Newman.

Nick's reaction was just fine. Did you want him to scream like Nikki? Or outscream her? I know you hate Josh Morrow, but I don't understand commenting on him in that scene at all.

To me, the smh part of the episode was watching everyone sit there paralyzed while Phyllis took over and ripped JT to shreds. That just wasn't believable.

It seems no one can write well for the show outside the Bill Bell/ John F Smith/ Kay Alden trifecta. CBS keeps bragging about the show being #1. What they fail to realize is that its mainly viewer dedication rather than actual quality.

The show can  be salvaged, they still get at least 4M viewers a day. The few saving graces of the current current show are that the veteran actors still get major screen time, the production quality and wardrobe on CBS is still decent, and the cast isn't over-bloated in comparison to General Hospital. Moreover the storylines, though crappy, tend to be separated organized and easy to catch up on. Other than that the show needs major work.

- Get Michelle Stafford back, make Victor human again, get a decent Lauren vs Sheila plot going, bring brack the ornate camera angles and directing from the 90s, and get the classical background music back....something before the audience eventually gives up.

Speaking of Kay Alden, here is a new interview with her. It’s a bit long, but she goes into significant detail about her 2016-17 stint with Sally Sussman. Definitely informative and worth the listen. Alden is a classy lady. Although she does not come out and specifically state this, my impression is that Angelica McDaniel and probably Steve Kent were the root of the SSM and KA’s problems. KA seems to have a decent relationship with Mal Young based on the ways in which she discusses him. She also gets some cuts in at the expense of LML, JG, Jelly, and Pratt.

    • John loved Sami unconditionally and forever
    • On May 27, Johnny spoke to Sami on the phone, and learned that Sami and Sydney were trying to fly in from Sicily, but were stopped by a volcanic eruption because the ash had grounded all the planes. As discussed on the May thread, ash from Mt. Etna in Sicily caused planes to be grounded in summer 2024, so Cwikly/Ford would have known that.  (I just learned that Mt. Etna has been considered "active" with intermittent activity since 2022.) Friday May 30, Will said that Sami and Sydney found another flight and will be here soon. Well, Sami and Sydney got out just in time, because … There was (and still is ongoing) a huge eruption of Mt. Etna that began very early Monday morning June 2 Italy time (which would be Sunday night June 1st Chicago time) and a volcanic ash plume had reached an altitude of around 6,400 metres (around 3 or 4 miles high) https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/mount-etna-eruption-volcano-smoke-lava-live-updates-b2761911.html
    • Agree to disagree. Like first, love second. OH, agree, agree, agree! Legendary Featherstone, you're not dressing this one well at all. Petite woman with ample bosom, wrong clothes = awful  matronly looking ugh. I'm sorry but I felt hit over the head with everything each of them thought & felt for about 6 more days than I felt I had signed on for.  I don't know you well enough to know if you will know when I'm teasing, so I've just warned you that I am when I say, I hate for you that you haven't actually met Danielle before. LOL. To me it was just a natural take.  I have no problem going back & forth between those two focal sites. But, I am certainly aware that early on I had an expectation of being really into their having 27 sets & that has definitely not been the realization. And, yes, for now, Frank is still heads above any & all others with us & sets IMO.  Huh? Guza gone. I have it in my head that he was only willing to come out of retirement (and presumed mourning) for a "certain amount of time" to help get this new creature launched, but had no desire to stay & so was one of the "over-staffed intentionally" that we were told about. Of course there's been no official word on the circumstances of his leaving.  But, you might mean go with Guza as in a style, if so, ignore the last para.

    • I'm so pleased we have such fan engagement about Dani. Reminds me of some other soap characters. I think it's because they are "polarizers" which is a word I may have just made up. They are polarizing on their shows to other characters & to story & they are polarizing in the audience as fans seem to have extreme reactions to them, love & hate, not middling neutrality, ya know? Well, it's a theory.  To me the human being you seek has been amply shown especially to two people & both more or less recently. Her sister bond with Nicole, whoa, has knocked me back & blown me away. And, with Chelsea, over her budding sexual identity and awareness. She gathered instantly that something was up with that daughter & was laser focused on her for several scenes. Then, for a third, she & Pamela have finally, also recently, been so real & genuine & authentic.
    • Thanks, Paul, I did not know about his interest in the comedic elements or that he was one of our many people who came from the network! I have always liked Marlena de la Croix's writing, which is not to say I 100% agree with her. She's been a member of my FB soap group for a good long time & she actually posts, which I love. Recently I posted about an e-copy of Robert LaGuardia's SOAP WORLD that is free to borrow like a library e-book but on the Internet Archive site & I posted that at the time of their publications, all of his soap opera books were the gold standard.  She immediately posted about "Bob" who was her close friend & how much she still misses him to this day & that he loved to talk soaps & was also a nice guy, etc. which I was over the moon to have her share about the author & his time etc. like that!!!
    • Just more RTD ego trips, seemingly his main reason for coming back.
    • Thanks @Paul Raven  That's a lovely writeup. Do fans feel it was warranted?
    • So I was reminded that we're now meant to be celebrating PRIDE by this amazing post:

I really wonder why they chose to write this whole ‘John is getting better’ part of the storyline, especially since we all knew what was really going to happen. And I hope we find out the answer someday. But as tough and as tearjerking as today was, it was also really beautiful. And the acting, even though a lot of it if not all of it was real, was spectacular. The flashbacks were beautiful too. I honestly can’t even describe how much I enjoyed today.  Having so many of John and Marlena’s scenes be focused on the two of them and their love story was the right decision. It was a fitting end to John and Marlena. And I’m also glad that John and Steve got to have one last goodbye after everything that happened. As for Bo and Hope and their family, I did think that some parts were a little unnecessary but I really enjoyed Bo’s dream and his reunion with Zack. The acting playing Zack actually did a pretty good job too. Everybody encouraging Bo to fight was really the right decision in this storyline as well.  As for the final minutes of today, be prepared. I actually have tears running down my cheeks as I write this.
