To me it's one part of the "dumbing down of America" shows For sure, "Seinfeld"'s despicable characters and strict "no hugging, no learning" agenda had an impact on television comedy in general. But did it really play a part in the "dumbing down of America"?
February 27, 20197 yr Member Seinfeld started out as a very niche show, so I don't fully understand how it was dumbing anything down. It wasn't exactly popcorn TV that was initially meant to attract big advertisers (it became that by accident, but wasn't exactly following trends). Edited February 27, 20197 yr by BetterForgotten
March 9, 20197 yr Member Stargate SG1: I wouldn't say it saddened me since I only saw it the first time years after it was over so I didn't have years invested in watching it. I would say disappointed moreso after season 8. By then, Hammond & O'Neill were gone. Never cared for Beau Bridges as an actor before, found Vala annoying, the Ori boring. When I rewatch episodes, I don't go past season 8 except for the episode with the alternate realities where Martouf and Janet are back. Fringe: I hated pretty much the whole final season. I haven't gone back to rewatch the show at all but, if I did, I wouldn't go past season 4. Edited March 10, 20197 yr by applcin

Her character certainly evolved and changed over time, and I see what you’re saying, but to me, JLD sold it. Maybe not for other folks but YMMV. But 90s NYC certainly could harden folks like our Baltimore native Laney. I bought it.... maybe because JLD is such a good actress. I still think Elaine is the best sitcom role for a woman ever outside of maybe Lucille Ball on I Love Lucy. I agree the show was still fantastic all the way to the end. One of my favorite series to rewatch to this day.
March 10, 20197 yr Member I loved Seinfeld, but I did feel it fell off in the later years. It sort of became “catchphrase comedy,” which got on my nerves. But I watched until the end.
