I thought that the scenes yesterday were good. I thought that the best speeches at Hilary's memorial were Devon and Jack's. Hilary's note giving advice to her loved ones was a nice touch and comforting to them. I liked that Jack was happy (in addition to being surprised) when he saw that HiIary had left advice for him in the letter. The exchange between Nate and Devon was good. I liked how Neil was there to try and keep the peace between them. That's his job as the family Patriarch and I am looking forward to seeing how he will try and keep the family from falling completely apart.

Also, I thought that Mariah was inappropriate in trying to press Mark about his relationship with Hilary. Hilary's memorial service with Devon right there, was the not the time or place for Mariah to be trying to see if Mark had some sort of romance with HiIary. And good looking Mark confirmed what some fans suspected that he had just tried to offer Hilary a job.

I don't like the way that Shauna revealed the truth, but now that it's out, things are going to get really interesting.

+1.

Also speaks a lot to how many people wanted to tune in because they knew that this was their last chance to see this particular actress and this particular pairing on the show.

I do think that many #Hevon fans likely pressured Mal to give Hilary her due in her exit storyline.  I think he was made to feel the weight of their expectations and knew he had to deliver if he had any hopes of retaining viewers (although, he likely won't) after MiM's departure.  Over the weekend, I read quite a few tweets from viewers claiming they intended tune out after Hilary was gone.  It's unclear to me how many truly mean it though.  I'd guess that some do.

It was a 100.000 total viewers bump....an increase but not that big and one that will erode again very soon.

I better face that she's gone.........

It must kill the racist and sexiest PTB at this show that Hilary was generally popular despite terrible writing and her race/gender, while they're STILL trying hard to make Cane relevant almost 12 years after his unfortunate debut.

I've said it before, but this show didn't appreciate how lucky they were to have found someone like Mishael Morgan. I hope she goes on to do some amazing things.

I FF’d everything but Winters drama, and probably will continue to do that moving forward. Loved Neil calling out Cane, and I only wish he’d gone in harder.

For some reason, Nate really irritated me today.

Shut up, Phyllis. I almost wanted Lily to clap back with a dig about her role in Dru’s death.

Great acting from Bryton and Christel. Devon really toppled St. Lily.

Totally. Those two characters have a complicated history, especially considering Lily spent years dating Phyllis’s son.

Somehow we get 30 references a week to John Abbott, yet we can’t get a single Dru mention even when it’s germane to the story.

    • Valerie Mahaffey Dead: ‘Northern Exposure,’ ‘Dead to Me’ Actress Was 71 I just loved Valerie on my early '90s TV shows. This one gets me.
    • I assume they did at some point during the finale...
    • Kelly was a horribly-written character overall. Just think, two Emmy-winning actresses (including Cynthia Watros, Nina, GH, and Annie, GL) couldn't make it work. Pamela is campy, but so are Dani, Vanessa, Leslie, and Joey. And, I don't want to be too judgy because my love for camp changes depending on the show. OLTL, DAYS, and some eras of GH had me rolling with the camp. However, Passions was overkill and I hated it. And, here, I can take it or leave it. It's ok in small doses (note to RC). I see this show as more of a serious drama.
    • I think one of the reasons that pilot didn't get picked up was because Vicki L was associated more with being Thelma Harper and playing older then she was playing her own age.  It was a blessing it didn't get picked up, or we would have been deprived of the syndicated era of Mama's Family.   Also, worth noting a Pre Night Court Marsha Warfield and pre Perfect Strangers Rebecca Arthur in the cast.  All talented women, but stuck with a bad script. And the other pilot had a pre Fran Fine.. Fran Drescher as the best friend.  I think that pilot might have been picked up if Karen Valentine and Fran Drescher switched roles.
    • So, on rewatch....did Rick and Mindy never have sex?
    • Cady had a fairly posh accent or manner as Rosanna - the character was a 180 from Dixie when she went to ATWT, and it was a huge success initially. As someone mostly only familiar with the nagging, miserable or clueless Dixie of the mid-late '90s and early 2000s it was what convinced me Cady could act. I thought she was incredible in her first run. Later, in future stints, her hair and story and performances were all over the place but a lot of that was down to the show for me. She brought some of Rosanna back with her to Dixie in her ill-fated return and a lot of people didn't like it, which I understood but I did think the character needed some change. I think she's had a little bit of the same persona and arch performance in every role she's played since, including Jennifer Horton at DAYS or Kelly at Y&R, who later became a maniac and was easily the worst work I've ever seen Cady do. It has kind of infected her overall mannerisms, I'll allow that, but I do think she brought Dixie back together as herself while still evolving the character when she returned to AMC again in 2012-13. Nonetheless, for me the upshot is that this is a character where Cady's kookier recent performance style suits the role. But I can understand it grating for people.
    • Yeah, Loretta Swit's passing stings. My late dad LOVED the show (he died last November) and watched it religiously. In first run and repeats.  And I was literally born the day after the show's premiere, so I grew up with it! I know many loved later, softer Margaret, but I loved Early Hot Lips. In real life, I'm all for less misogyny, but to me, the early years of M*A*S*H were just funnier. May Loretta Swit rest in peace. Thanks for all the memories connected to my dad!

    • I agree that she isn't Dixie or Rosanna and shouldn't be acting like either. I just found it strange that she had a naive Southern character and a wealthy urbane character in the past and didn't experiment with accents before (unless I missed it, correct me if I'm wrong). She used to do improv characters on YouTube. She's probably doing something similar here.
