Last time a newbie impressed you?

When was the last time an actor was cast and you thought there was some potential ?

Most new actors meet with a frosty  reception. Of course, there are fewer shows, so less opportunity to showcase new talent.

Are strong younger actors now shying away from soaps as a pathway to bigger things?

Not Newbie, but new characters.

Days:

EJ Wells (Pre-DiMera)

Madison James (I loved the connection she had to Sami and Eric)

New Actors:

RSW as Ben

Shayna Rose as Stephanie

Ned Porteous as Joseph Tate on Emmerdale. I don't count his prior (and short) soap experience on EastEnders b/c that story that garbage from the start! However, he has won me over as Joe on Emmerdale and is the main reason I'm tuning back in somewhat regularly again.

From US soaps, it'd probably be Casey Moss as JJ on DAYS early on. However, they made him become drab and dull after his hot affair with Eve ended. Gladly, he's back on the upswing and is entertaining again.

Well, I'm stumped.

Casey Moss and Billy Flynn on DAYS.

I was really impressed by Joey Luthman as young Luke on GH.  Same with young Patricia, but she’s on the show right now and her character has been a mess.

They should have created her as a child of Jimmy Lee Holt or linked to the Hardys. The character of Nell just don’t work.

Victoria Konefal as Ciara Brady. (They just need to tone down the character)

Lucas Adams as Tripp Dalton until the horrendous scenes with him trying to stab Kayla. Those were just awful!

In terms of leaping off the screen, it's slim pickings for the past decade. Christopher Sean, obviously.

But before that, maybe Finn Wittrock on AMC? I knew he had something more than your usual soap newbie.

Cornelius Smith Jr, Shannon Kane, Scott Evans, Davetta Sherwood, JR Martinez, Adrianne Leon, Abhi Sinha, Mishael Morgan & John Driscoll.

These + the aforementioned  Eric Neilsen and Robert Scott Wilson.

RSW was awful as Petey and most of his Days run. He only got good when he started playing psycho. He is best at playing devious/evil characters.
