Ten years does seem like a lot but I don’t believe it will much impact his career as a producer. As an actor, is an open question, especially if it is on some big studio project. There are a few of his projects that are on hold but if they are far enough in development that he can’t be replaced without losing massive amounts of money, they’ll likely go forward.

As for awards, a lot of those are predicated on politics and part of the reason why he won this year was part performance but mostly due to the presence of charm (he ran an effective Oscar campaign) and the goodwill that he’d built up over the years.

It may have been in his memoir where he joked about any time he’s won an award (Grammy), he’s never been there in person to receive it. This Academy Awards was his first time being there to receive an award in person. Better he had stayed away.

While I totally get your point about diversity in the hiring of producers for the Oscars, it is shame that race and not inexperience will be blamed.

Packer had no business producing one of the biggest live events of the television season.  I would assume he was hired because the ratings bombed last year, and few wanted to take on the job and be blamed for a further slide in ratings.  However, he has never produced a live TV event, most his prior productions were relatively small, and he obviously had few relationships with historically acclaimed actors in Hollywood.

By contrast, when Quincy Jones produced the Oscars, it looked amazing, Whoppi Goldberg's costumes were incredible, and it was only over time by less than half an hour.

In my eyes, the ban isn't that serious. Will can still thrive around it, he doesn't need them imho. I know I'm in the minority, but, i don't believe the academy was planning to give him another Oscar regardless of the performance. This was most likely his career Oscar!

Will will be fine. He Just needs to keep a low profile for awhile(which is something most do anyway after winning their first oscar.) He could slowly bounce back as a producer in maybe 3 yrs, and then hopefully as a Actor right after.

@DramatistDreamer Bright was a great film. Definitely in his top 10 projects!

I agree with you there. The timing was right for Will, the real life person that he played is truly the star, the Williams Sisters is the most compelling sports story in the last two decades overall, and none of the other nominees in his category campaigned for the Academy Award this year. I don’t expect those confluence of factors to come together for Smith again. I definitely got the sense that he was one and done for that kind of prestige, even before the slap.

I also believe that Smith will be just fine, career-wise. If nothing else, he can always produce. His instincts as a producer are much better that that of his acting, imo. He has done a great job with Bel Air, although I know some people don’t like the series.

Agree.  Sometimes I think the Academy award actors hoping that'll be that and they'll never have to bother with them again.

And sometimes I think they just live to [!@#$%^&*] with Glenn Close, lol.

    • I posted this a few weeks ago but it's worth popping up again as Grant does get asked about return rumors, that Paul Rauch had tried to get the show revived for years but P&G just would not sell it.

    • If those two crazy (and I do mean crazy!) kids can't make it, where's the hope for the rest of us?!

    •   Sonia was on the director rotation at DAYS. On BTG, Sonia had been credited as a producer.  May 23 was her first episode directing BTG.
    • And Kim Zimmer also gave interviews where she admitted to some of her behavior and she apologized for it. I give her credit for admitting her wrongdoing and taking responsibility because other actresses would not have done that.  BTW, I will miss John Payne from your avatar.

JFP's GL post-1993 may have needed Kim Zimmer to try to salvage the mess that was made of the show (and that turned out to be another disaster), but GL post Zimmer's departure was fantastic. Forbes showed GL didn't need Zimmer as well. I also think Santa Barbara didn't help her ego either since Sydney Penny got the attention, and most SB viewers loathed Zimmer's Jodie character. To be fair, I think a big part of the problem was the writing and the producing, but since Zimmer thinks Rauch is such a genius, that's on her.
    • Forbes also likely got the primetime career Zimmer wanted - never a huge star, admittedly, but a stalwart, able to dip in and out when she saw fit and generally not paying an industry price. Zimmer felt extremely hurt by her lack of success after leaving GL and even more hurt when JFP made it clear GL had moved on from Reva. (JFP, self-sabotaging as ever, soon made it clear that was not actually the case, but with a stronger producer, GL could have genuinely moved on from Reva) That's interesting. I suppose that's what they always say, and there was some precedent as Passions had moved to Direct TV. I guess Passions being canned so fast (faster than many expected, I think) put a big nail in the coffin. And we haven't had any revivals or moves since that have worked, even though Neighbours came close.  I'll try to find that promo.
    • Oh wow - I must see this promo!  Anyone have a copy/link to it? I can't believe they 'accidentally' did that, and if so, I wonder if someone got in trouble haha. Kim did mention in Chapter 1 that the 'suits' dangled some hopeful carrots for a long time, saying they would pitch the show and try and get it on another network or online somehow where it would be cheaper. They even heard rumors that Lifetime would pick it up, so it gave some folks hope for a little while, but sadly nothing came of it. Kim said she was already resolved that it would never go anywhere and she had peace of mind about that shortly after the announcement.
    • Same. I absolutely agree. It's a real shame, too. I had a lot of hope for the Character.
    • He's been written that way for about twenty years, so I suppose it is fitting. They should have done repair work, but I still think this return was pushed on Frank by ABC and he sandbagged the whole thing. If so, I guess he got what he wanted. I mostly feel bad for Becky Herbst. I've never loved Liz, but she should be given more respect than she is by TPTB, rather than always being a step away from losing her job.
    • Wow. This show is ridiculous.
