I loved Winnie and Nelson. I think this teen scene, including Reed and his love interests has potential. I didn't mind Mattie having image issues because it's common. I can buy kids being mean to her because she doesn't fit the traditional standards of beauty. I also didn't find Lily too out of place with older kids. It worked for me. The one thing Sussman has done really well is make Lily and Cane viable. Daniel Goddard is beholden to the Lane fans because they saved his job. Problem is, no writer has been able to find story for them because they lack chemistry and are BORING. I also wish the writers would focus more on the Lily/Hilary feud which is very watchable and makes sense unlike that mess with Mariah. 

Nothing about Mattie's looks said doesn't fit the traditional standards of beauty. She fits the traditional standards of beauty. Glasses don't change that.

 

And was Charlie's slang what these writers think black teens sounds like?

I smell a "whodunit".  Not that she will die (we hope) but too many are gonna want her head on a stick. 

Why oh why does Noah always continually get horrible love interests? Well Marisa wasn't too bad and was much better with Luca, but really Tessa is just another incarnation of the whole Eden/Hunter/Adrianna model they have pushed on Noah with any of his love interests. The only thing she's got going for her is that she isn't the porn star cop Noah tried to marry a couple years ago. 

@Chris B Winnie and Nelson . I don't mind the two kids cast for teen roles but seeing Mattie and Lily together, it's not just the fact that they look like siblings. The vibe is like a high school girl getting advice from her older sister who is in college.  I completely believe that Cane could be her Dad because he looks it.  And I kept thinking that Charlie looks a lot like Neil and could've made a decent Moses. It wouldn't have been that hard. Sophie might have complained to Neil that Moses was getting rebellious and mouthy and Neil could've suggested Moses stay with him for awhile.  Having Mattie mention pre-med and Aunt Olivia, made me miss TLW all over again and think of what Y&R is missing without her. Perhaps that means a visit from Aunt Olivia? I also chuckled at the thought of "Grand-Uncle" Malcolm visitng his bio-grandkids who would know him as granduncle. 

 

Okay, I'm going to say one or two positive things about today's show. It wasn't as clunky as episodes that I've seen in the past.  I might differ from a lot of today's soap fans, in that I don't mind a dialogue heavy show. 

The scenes between Dina and Abby weren't bad and I am not going to nit-pick how the show has decided to somehow retcon Ashley's relationship to Dina but I guess it gives ED and MA something to work with.

 

The teens' dialogue landed like bricks but in terms of the character dynamics, it seems as if some attempts are being made at building a teen scene. I know better than to get any hopes up whatsoever though. Although it's so obvious that

 

Mattie is likely to end up dating Reed. I remember suggesting Devon's younger sister Anna (maybe a newly cast Anna) come on and end up Reed's future girlfriend.  So I'm having my eyes open to see if my suspicion turns out to be true

 

And shocker, but I think Ravi's cute (gasp) and  I don't mind Tessa. I hope they brighten up Tessa's look for the summer because the goth look has run it's course and making her personality seem like every character that Ally Sheedy played in the 80s has also run it's course.

Maybe at some point it's time to admit Noah is the problem.  They've never found the right actor, imo. I have no idea who this guy is other than bland as can be 20 something. Maybe the actors aren't even the problem. A character has to be given direction before anyone can cast or play them well. I  consider Noah one of Y&R's greatest fails.

RA is a good actor. I loved him on Lincoln Heights and he was good on Hollywood Heights too. That havent given Noah a storyline worth a damn.The Adriana storyline had potential but they needed a better actress and they randomly dropped it with no resolution. Never did find out what secret she was hiding or where she got that big bag of money that no one ever came looking for.

It's a shame Adriana's brief encounter with Katherine didn't last long either....mostly because of Jeanne's death   she could have still stuck around to maybe butt heads with Jill.....I don't remember the actress being the best, but she could have maybe grown into more of a "Hilary" role by this point too.

If the writing was halfway decent a Who Shot Hilary mystery (with the requisite Hevon reunion) would be great.

 

Unfortunately this regime has shown they have no ability to tell a coherent umbrella story.

I used the wrong choice of words. What I mean is that her look I could buy immature high schoolers bullying. Not that she isn't beautiful but was more covered up and not trendy.

I thought his romance with Marisa had tons of story potential too, but they nixed that and lost the actress in the process too. It's a shame how RA doesn't get good material when he is capable.
