Don't care about Genie or Laura, but why let that old fool dictate SL? Genie can be on the show and L/L can co parent. Is Geary afraid too many will want L/L? Is he afraid no one will give 2 sh!ts about Luke if Laura is around? Why can't Genie be on canvas w/o Geary? Geary's interference in SLs has gone too damn far!

Exactly. Why can't Luke and Laura co-exist? Because too many stans would keep begging them to reunite?

Sooo tired of Geary. I can't believe we're being subjected to watching him play out some ridiculous fantasy of Luke being some psycho monster. But then wait!!! He had a messed up childhood! So it makes everything OK!!

Sigh.

Which is awful and sad. The me of 1996 would have so been down with a storyline exploring Luke and Bobbie's childhoods. But that was back when she hadn't truly gone over the surgery edge yet and he was still near the top of his game. Oh and Riche would have maybe had a more delicate touch and some taste while producing it.

As much as I'm not enjoying the show, I can't blame Frank and Ron for how I feel about Luke. Geary pretty much made me hate Luke nearly a decade ago, and now I just don't care what's wrong with Luke.

I am not his biggest fan of late but I frankly don't believe Tony would ever block Genie's return, or continued stay on GH. I'm not even convinced he'd block a Luke/Laura reunion - he has said in the last year he'd go for it if it was "done right." And I don't think that's what that quote from Genie says, either.

Tony has a lot of stupid ideas and says a lot of stupid things, especially in the last 10+ years, and his performance in this story is awful and embarrassing. But he's also, publicly at least, been very gracious towards Genie and has always given her major credit for their success. I think much of what he's said about Luke and Laura and their life together in the last decade is wrongheaded and immature, but I don't think Tony, the actor, would ever stand in the way of her return or try to push back against that major of a story element when he knows the tide and history is simply against him. I also think Ron Carlivati (and Frank), for all their faults, will not rest until they reunite them. It's been on Ron's mind since Day 1 when he had Starr and Cole sing LNL's praises on the way to town. LNL goes beyond Tony insisting on improv'ing Luke drinking on-set - it's something big enough that FV would exert pressure.

I know there was apparently a personal reason Genie had to leave so abruptly, but I think part of the reason she's still gone has less to do with Tony himself and more to do with money and the show's unwillingness to come to terms with her on a financial level somewhat on par with TG. I think they were hoping they could get Genie Francis on recurring, the way they tried to do Tristan Rogers. Not gonna happen. Pay up.

Tony has said before that Luke and Laura are the past and that there fans are living in the past. Im sorry but who the hell is he to diss fans like that. This isnt 1981. You lost relevancy decades ago

    • Regarding the mobster storyline: The scripts, the cardroom set, and the writing for Joey -- are all terrible. They seem to be writing a realistic depiction of compulsive gambling as an addiction, showing that it pops into his head all the time -- it has become hardwired into his brain.  The APA (American Psychological Association) describes compulsive gambling as having a similar effect on the physical brain as drug and alcohol addiction. https://www.apa.org/monitor/2023/07/how-gambling-affects-the-brain I think Jason Graham (Doug) is doing an adequate job playing Doug as a compulsive gambler, with the thoughts/urges coming into his head all the time, and being unable to stop. However, the cardroom set is awful and the mobster storyline is a bad cliché, so it's all so uninteresting to watch. I think Mr. Graham is doing the best he can with the crap they gave him to work with. If anyone reading or watching has a gambling issue, check out Gamblers Anonymous.  They have many types of meetings -- in-person, online, video, audio, etc.  They also have resources for friends/family of compulsive gamblers.
    • Today was painful (especially for Philip).  I still feel for Xander. He was clear he was happy sharing and working with Philip. It's just one more betrayal from someone he loved. Going back to last year when he found out about Victor and Fiona, then Alex and Philip. He forgave and tried. Then Philip went behind his back again. He's been walking on the edge for weeks. This is a man who was abused, neglected and has never had any therapy for his horrific past. He has zero coping skills because he's never learned them. I hate this but I refuse to hate Xander
    • Lucy Coe wasn't even this big of a whore.
    • Kate being the one that Alex called was a nice surprise. The cut to her looking all sheek made me instantly get excited for her to get back into business mode. And the Jack reference from when she first came to town (on-screen) was inserted naturally which is always welcome. When they were talking about how much sex sells, I almost got the impression they were sizing each other up in a May/December type of way.  All the Philip stuff was gruesome. I'm happy the show isn't shying away from Xander's ugliness. I love them both, and it just makes me intrigued for the aftermath for it all to be taken seriously. I cheered when Philip spat out at that Sarah knew the truth. I'm on tenterhooks for their eventual confrontation. I was surprised that Kate wasn't a little vicious towards Sarah for Xander's obvious behavior, but maybe that's still to come. How wonderfully entangled is it that both Philip and Shawn/Steve stopped each other from getting the drug. Both equally at fault. Who/what will ultimately save Bo? And with everything going on, is a Salem where it's looking likely that EJ is about to own the hospital imminent?
    • Oddly.. Chase and Steve seem to have both vanished from the canvas in December so the Estelle return loses impact when two of her kids stop appearing shortly after her return (and I assume TR leaves in early 1986 as well). The Steve recast doesn't work... but it's odd that he has a long scene with Teri with Cagney looking jealous.. when the majority of his time on the show previously was a relationship and engagement to Stephanie (who he barely has a scene with in the episodes I see). Your idea for Wendy/Bela/Stephanie sounds just like what Ryan's Hope did with Michael/Kim/Rae... and considering Louise Shaffer was playing Rae and Stephanie.. it would have been a lousy redux of a superior story on another soap (that had months of build-up) I think Quinn becoming assistant to Stephanie was Mayer/Braxton... but not 100 % sure. I don't know if Mayer/Braxton was setting up Sarah as a bad girl disguised as a good girl.. but the actress (Joyner) was playing the scenes in that manner.. and Tomlin wisely tapped into that when he took over.
    • She’s such a caricature - which is a shame because I think the actress is capable of so much more.   I don’t know why Cady often feels like she has overcompensated in her performances. She already proved she can play much more than just Dixie Cooley during her first stint at ATWT (her best acting era). Her performances in various roles since then have been quite strange at times.
    • It feels like the show suddenly woke up today and remembered it was Sweeps month. Lots of action and forward momentum, including a delicious Nina/Carly fight.
