June 27, 201312 yr Member Analogies like this one are why you are needed here kthxbye But I totally agree. I'd be more apt to watch OLTL if it was directly following AMC (especially at 30 minutes an episode). I always said a cable deal should be based on selling the shows as an hour-long block that can be dropped anywhere for two hours a day. The traditional afternoon airing and a later airing (early evening or late night). Ha, thank you cousin! But yeah, if I'm lucky enough to have time to watch in the middle of the day, I'd much rather catch both shows. But when I venture a guess at who OWN's core daytime demo is, both shows will probably do just fine. What they REALLY need to do is run some sexy ads of both shows' youth sets during Degrassi commercials on TeenNick. I don't think of OWN as a particularly youthful network and anyone who has watched these reboots is aware of the strong focus on the teens/early twentysomethings.
June 27, 201312 yr Member Well, I'm still not going to watch because I don't dig the storylines. Plus, it's on OWN. I hate everything Oprah. I'm not going to support her.
June 27, 201312 yr Member Nothing really new here, but Time has an article about it: http://entertainment.time.com/2013/06/26/online-soap-operas-coming-back-to-tv/
June 27, 201312 yr Member OWN billed its soap opera acquisition as "a special exclusive 10-week limited engagement." OWN would likely extend the arrangement if the soaps prove to be a commercial success, and the summer run is something of a test. "These shows have proven to be very popular with a significant, loyal fan base, not to mention Oprah herself is a big fan,” Erik Logan, OWN's president, said in a statement. “Many of our viewers across numerous platforms have expressed their passion for the soaps so we are especially excited to air this limited engagement on OWN.” http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/envelope/cotown/la-et-ct-own-all-my-children-one-life-to-live-20130626,0,6839996.story?track=rss&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+newsandbuzz+%28News+%26+Buzz%29
June 27, 201312 yr Member OMG, Sonia Blangiardo, All My Children's supervising producer, is friends with Jessie from Big Brother. And he's a soap fan! Mr. PEC-Tacular™ @MrPEC_Tacular10h HUGE CONGRATS to my bud @SoniaBlangiardo & 2 everyone at @allmychildren & @onelifetolive! The soaps R now gonna air on Oprah's OWN Network!
June 27, 201312 yr Member I truly believe that someday, GL and EON in particular make very good bets for returns and revamps a la OLTL and AMC if P&G ever chooses to loosen the reins. I've said that many times, and I'd be happy to talk about it - I disagree with Carl/DRW that it's off-topic. I think if these shows make it on OWN - and though I suspect they have an admittedly low bar to clear, I will likely be DVR'ing it again to help with the numbers - then other shows are definitely something to consider. We as a community need to stay optimistic. Oprah was saying the same thing PGP was saying for years. I see this as a major victory considering the arguably most powerful women in TV sees this as successful. I do agree this shouldn't be off-topic because, again, this is a major victory for the genre. CBS/NBC/ABC all said these shows will not be a threat since they will just be online. Well, they are not just online anymore!! I can see GL being brought back to cash in on the "Soaps went from Radio to TV and now TV to the internet". I will go on my rooftop and sing Christmas Carols in July while doing a striptease on my Chimney if I get to here "Guiding Light which went from Radio to TV is now making a comeback. But this time. Online!" Edited June 27, 201312 yr by allmc2008
June 27, 201312 yr Member Angie and Jesse are role models in the AA community. Debbi and Darnell are role models in the AA community. Oprah had them on when she had her final 25th year on her talk show. She interviewed both together. It would be great to have them do an interview for an hour show to honor their 30 years working together as colleagues and in real life very close personal friends, BFF for life. Where do you get your math from - Angie and Jesse/Debbi and Darnell have not worked together for 30 years. Over a 30 year time span, but not continually, not even close to 30 years.
June 27, 201312 yr Member I think Oprah was condescending in her message to the soap fans, but then again, just reading a few FB posts make me want to scream, so after her being bombarded, I can understand it. I can't stand Oprah, however, and it has nothing to do with the message that she posted. I got an HDMI cable for my television, connected the shows to my Wii, purchased Hulu Plus and the Itunes package deal - I will support my shows because I support my shows, it has nothing to do with supporting Oprah, luckily OWN is already part of my cable package.
June 27, 201312 yr Member Wow. I just looked at tomorrows OWN lineup and basically all that's on is Dateline and Dr. Phil repeats. No wonder they are going with some scripted stuff.
June 27, 201312 yr Member Boo Hoo. Ron Carlivati isn't a happy. http://www.generationgossip.com/2013/06/all-my-children-and-one-life-to-live-to.html

June 27, 201312 yr Member In one of the articles in this thread, it mentions that OWN's primetime lineup averages around 350,000 each night, with the exception of the two nights of Tyler Perry shows. If OWN promotes this the right way, I could see these soaps doing well. Repeats on SOAPnet were getting higher ratings than that, for all the soaps, so they should be able to pull off at least 500,000 I hope. I just worry the weird schedule might hurt them. They should be airing in the same hour block. As for the PGP soaps being brought back, I still say people need to think outside the box. Considering how long those soaps ran and how convoluted things became, I wouldn't bring either back in their original form. I'd say the best bet would be to do a remake or a spin-off type of thing (with the same name) and focus mostly on new characters. As it stands you'd probably have to recast the majority of characters if you decide to bring any of them back. A remake of Edge could serve a purpose, same for GL or ATWT if a remake of the original premise. Perhaps even doing a period soap for one of them. I also would suggest re-developing them as a primetime soap that could air either on OWN, Hulu or Netflix. We don't need so many daytime soaps that we oversaturate the market again. The only two soaps I'd say we truly need are a Dark Shadows remake or Edge of Night. Both offer something we aren't getting anywhere else. And Dark Shadows has such enduring popularity.

If enough eyeballs dont watch on OWN these shows will NEVER be on TV again & MAY NOT get a second season. TRUST!!!
June 27, 201312 yr Member Saying this now. If enough eyeballs dont watch on OWN these shows will NEVER be on TV again & MAY NOT get a second season. TRUST!!! If someone decides they don't want to watch that's their business. BDTW said s/he doesn't like the storylines. If that's the case then there's no reason to watch. Pity watching isn't going to save these shows. They have to find an audience they way any other show does.
