AMC: The Prospect Park Era (old production thread)

I'm hoping David is going to be more grounded, less mastermindish, less the town pariah, and still together with Cara as the show starts. He can still have an edge and an arrogance to him without everyone always hating on him.

I'd like to know how familiar the new EPs are with these shows (of course we know about SBH), did they ever watch in the final ABC years and did they review tapes when they were hired by PP? What, in their opinions, were these shows lacking? On the other hand, what was there "too much of"? What are their visions for AMC and OLTL and what do they hope to bring to these phoenixes?

I believe Ginger Smith was with AMC for years? Debbi, among others, are constantly singing her praises, but I'd like to know their visions as well.

I loved the Project Orpheus storyline. It was definitely "out there" but it also made perfect sense, given David's history as an unorthodox doctor (he invented Libidizone), the helplessness he felt when he couldn't save the one person most important in his life (Leora), and his prior history of bringing people back from the dead (Maria and Greenlee).

The storyline really served to fix and undo the two most wrongful deaths of the past, namely Dixie and Stuart. Those are legacy characters that NEVER should have been killed off by McTavish and Pratt.

In my opinion, Project Orpheus was the best umbrella story to bring closure to David's character and involve the rest of the cast.

ICAM! I loved Project Orpheus because it fit into the structure of the show very well with all the characters David had saved over the years and it corrected some of the worst mistakes McT & Pratt had made.

I think I read somewhere on this board that Ginger Smith was with AMC for about 20 years and worked her way up through various positions backstage eventually becoming a supervising producer. I'd like to hear her vision, too.

I agree, but when you blame a character though without noting the writing it doesn't seem exactly sensible either. I mean blame in the over-dramatic format of "this one/that one (fictional characters) killed the show" not in the format of watching storyline and going "what a one-note jerk-off" or something rather reasonable like that.

Well said!

One can't ignore the crappy writing for nearly a DECADE but some do cause they want a convenient scapegoat wink.png

I may hate Sonny, Carly, Jason years on GH, but even I know they weren't the ONLY problem with the show, it was mismanagement, bad writing and Frons

Writing may suck, but when one couple that is awfuly written dominates the show and the worst written stories then yes, they can be blamed.

Dont even try and act like Sonny, Carly & jason were not blamed. While not taking 100% of the blame, they got just as much as zendell do.

OLTL question:

Do the writers feel any extra pressure coming off such a successful tenure for OLTL? Especially since the writing staff is completely different from the one before. How will their OLTL differ from the style that Ron Carlivati wrote?

And a question for both is if they will have any regular outdoor shooting? Both shows had it towards the end of their ABC run (and it looks good on both shows). Also, will there be any outdoor standing sets?

I think AMC and OLTL need separate discussion threads. This has been a big week for AMC news, and trying to sift through all of these AMC related posts to find something about OLTL is becoming tedious.

Come March 11 it will likely shift to mostly OLTL discussion so this thread is fine until like April probably then split. I see your point though.

See what you mean but some of this news is pretty universal.
