HOLIDAY MIRACLE: Prospect Park Back On Track To Revive AMC and OLTL

  • Member

WTF!!!!!

EXCLUSIVE: Here is a great holiday gift for soap fans: I’ve learned that Prospect Park has revived its plan to continue cancelled ABC daytime dramas All My Children and One Life To Live online. I hear the company behind USA hit Royal Pains has inked deals with SAG-AFTRA and DGA for the soaps’ production, eyed to begin in the first quarter of 2013.

When I said Robin Strasser was "nuts" I was referring to her comments in general not the comment about Justin Bieber. I totally get she is trying to get some publicity for OLTL, which is very smart btw. I just feel most of her comments are "out there" and I don't mean that in a negative way.

Oh, I didn't mean you specifically, I just meant the reaction I saw in general to her tweet.

I don't see what they can do until the cast is firmly locked in and filming begins. Why tease something that could still not happen? Why post photos, interviews, etc. If they don't start doing this by March or April, I'll definitely jump on the "PR sucks" (well, I think it kinda does right now, TBH). I do agree they should be doing all of those things though, I just think it's expecting something too soon, if you think about it from the fact that nothing is even filmed or taped. Sets are probably still be finished, etc. The writers have been writing for maybe a month. We really only got "official" word on this in late January, even though we've known since before Christmas.

The problem is they're NOT doing anything, the actors and media outlets are doing it for them. Who says they need to do all that, but they should be the ones posting casting announcements and whatnot

I expect they're going to be doing PR closer to the first airdate on hulu when they've actually got a few scenes taped that they can use as promos. I'd be surprised if Entertainment Tonight, TV Guide, etc. weren't invited to the sets to get backstage coverage too.

Agreed. I'm not sure what promotion they can do until they get taping then Hulu can start pushing the shows the way they do their other "exclusive series." (This Hulu viewer is sick of seeing promos for Battleground, The Yard and Tracey Ullman's State of the Union.) I do agree that they need to do more with their website. Either use it effectively or get rid of it.

Media Outlets Like tV line & Deadline spoil casting for all other TV shows on Broadcast & Cable channels & no one gets mad at that. However because PP is going the same route they get vilified. Dont get the big deal

While I'm not going to defend Prospect Park, no one announced Jill Larson or Thorsten Kaye were joining "All My Children" except Prospect Park. The other actors took it upon themselves to announce their signing on (or in Debbi's case, outed Darnell). As for promotion, most shows that debut in the fall could only dream of all the press our shows are getting even before filming a single episode. Sure, the dynamics are different (online vs broadcast tv), but people know about the project whether they want to admit it or not. Does that mean we can expect Prospect Park to do nothing until April? No. But when a show is in development for primetime, you hear few stories about that show outside of casting notices that are reported via sites like ours, Deadline, TVLine, EW, etc. It's when critics see a finished pilot and get to meet the stars at such events as the TCA press tours do we see press amped up.

I'm of the belief that we'll continue getting our casting and assorted information via "sources" until the next press release (due out this week ;)) and the first film date. Once the cast meets the production staff and filming commences, all the "I wish this" or "I wish that" will happen. It just takes time. April (whatever part of the month) is a long time from now. Marketing and advertising is being handled by Hulu, which only announced it "picked up" the shows two weeks ago, so they need time to plan their marketing and advertising campaigns. They need the cast to be working to take press photos, film promos and interstitials, etc.

When everything finally comes together, we'll be happy. We just need to be patient.

TOLN will probably be nothing more than an email sign up to get info type of thing.

The thing that worries me about Hulu doing a lot of the advertising is that Hulu doesn't get soaps. When it was announced by Prospect Park that Hulu would be airing these shows, the Hulu blog entry or something on their website about it was full of soap cliches or stereotypes and I was cringing. I hope they treat these shows with respect and not like trashy guilty pleasures.

For that to happen the shows would have to treat themselves with respect and not like trashy guilty pleasures. The thought of SORASed AJ and Miranda or Destiny looking for a sugar daddy doesn't make me hopeful.

Robin's tweet is in relation to the fact that Justin Bieber is one of the hottest stars out right now, and he's signed to Universal Music Group. You know, the record label that Prospect Park has a contract with that allows them to use their music on the soaps? She's not nuts cause that's exactly related to what the contract states re: "artist participation"

  1. CHECK MY MOTIVES RTing anything J Bieber? Look, maybe he'll RT promo for REVIVAL #OLTL I'll become a belieber in exchange for his support:)

The person who posted that doesn't work in the marketing/advertising department. Just sayin'

Yup....Robin's tweets can be a little cryptic or jumbled but when you decipher them you realize that she really does make sense.
