I'm not sure his work at Cedars was exactly defined. More of an all around handy man. I think there's a period where he was crushing on Lainie, and he helped set up her rehab equipment after she got out of the hospital (after her accident.) So, stuff like that.
Well, the character of Ed predated the Dobsons. Did they bring on Holly though?
And honestly, the Dobsons were the ones who laid the foundation for Phillip's complicated family history and angst. I'd count him, even if Long is the one who exploded him.

I'd split hairs re: Maureen. She kept the Reardons relevent, via her marriage to Ed and raising Michelle. Nola made the Reardons unforgettable.
