Which is why I said that, GH was spared, in part, because of Cartini's involvement in that otherwise comatose soap. The Revolution's failure definitely was another reason why GH was spared (for now).

That said, this show sure wouldn't have been saved if the likes of Guza (or the person that replaced him) had been at the helm. The fact that Cartini's name is attached to this shitshow is why this show is living to see another day.

The only reason it was spared due to Cartini had nothing to do with crossovers. Show me where they have helped improve performance. Since Ron has taken over GH has now hit .8 twice in the 18 to 49 demo. Something that happened only once before. I will acknowledge Valentini who probably got the budget under control which helped it survive but at the end of the day it was the Revolutions failure.

The Revolution's failure is the only reason that GH was given a reprieve. GH's demos are horrible, but The Revolution's were worse. You could give Katie's talk show some credit for motivating ABC to give it a slightly better lead in. However, RC and FV get no credit.

Both factors was what ultimately saved this show. Cartini's brilliant ploy to get rightfully outraged OLTL viewers to watch GH (in spite of the fact that some of these viewers ran away from the latter soap because it sucked sweaty eczema balls) had plenty to do with why this show is lasting longer than it should've.

The failure of that talk show is one reason out of many, as is Cartini's involvement with this show. The only thing that I'll give Katie credit for is treading lightly in introducing her talk show, as she's been around long enough to know how to play things in her favor so that she isn't unfairly blamed (as the castmembers of both The Chew and The Revolution were) for killing off AMC and OLTL.

When GH finally dies its overdue death, it will be because of the long reign of incompetence that was Guza/JFP/Frons' run. Period.

Exactly.

Where is the proof that Cartini's involvement helped to save the show? I'm not seeing anything reflected in the ratings.

Message boards are not a good sample of the general viewing audience. OLTL's hardcore fans have not been checking into GH, at least not in significant amounts. Viewership continues to decrease.

Most of the hardcore OLTL fans could probably care less about characters from their canceled soap crossing over for all we know, and so far, that seems to be the case outside of some fans on message boards.

Funny how when GH vets Tristan Rogers and Emma Samms returned, GH garnered the highest ratings (2.0). When they left, ratings went back down. Hmm. Personally, I think ratings would be higher if they just stuck with bringing back the iconic GH vets and didn't bring on the OLTL characters. Focus the money and storyline on GH characters - not OLTL characters.

The brilliant ploy that got people to tune in to a show that they otherwise wouldn't given the time of day to.

As for "fangurling" for Cartini, well, it's no different than the I-Hate-OLTLers Kool-Aid that many seem to be drunk off of.

Whatever canvas that would've served the true GH vets like Robert and Holly as they should've been is dead and has been for years before Cartini came along. What's left is a malnourished shadow of what used to be a great soap, so no, I'm not buying the myth that Cartini is the reason why the vets have not been regarded as they should at all.

If this were a great soap that got sidelined by the arrival of characters from another soap, I'd have no problem falling in line with SON groupthink in believing that Cartini ruined this show. Since it isn't and hasn't been since the beginning of the new millennium, I have and will continue to state that fact instead of getting on the Cartini Sucks bandwagon.

    • That's what Julie Hanan Carruthers is doing for BTG at the new studio in Atlanta, but JHC is credited. And @errol said JHC is working in a nonproduction capacity at Y&R.
    • I remember when the whole Missy Reeves controversy started in 2012.  She tweeted support of a business that had made homophobic statements. Greg Rikaart (who was on Y&R back then) publicly called her out on it, but was willing to reach out and speak with her. Article here: https://greginhollywood.com/greg-rikaart-talks-about-his-twitter-war-with-fellow-soap-star-melissa-reeves-over-anti-gay-chick-fil-a-73139 That being said, ten years later, on DAYS, in 2022, when they had they double wedding of Leo/CraigWesley and Gwen/Xander, Jack and Jennifer came to the wedding.  At that time, Missy Reeves was only intermittently available for DAYS. Jennifer was living "in Boston" and Cady McClain and Missy were each intermittently appearing as Jennifer, on the specific occasions when the show required a Jennifer to appear. Missy wasn't on contract and she could have said no. But she chose to appear as Jennifer for the gay wedding of Greg Rikaart's character.   So... I mean... I would assume they reached a détente behind-the-scenes. Missy still has her belief system but there's that.
    • That was one of the best grandslam finals.  Alcaraz comes all the way back down 2 sets to 0, and three match points in the 3rd set, to win it in a 5th set tie-break.  And the quality of play was excellent - so many great shots.  What a battle!
    • Indeed. I may try to watch it in full sometime, but not anytime soon... Mark played Sean Baxter for a few episodes when Courtney married Andy. Burke was either on Broadway or at OLTL at that time, I suppose.
    • Well, Josh was a horndog. LOL Yep. It was one of the first really weird things Reva did with her PPD. She became obsessed with the idea that Dylan and Sam should get married. Sam was only 17, and needed her parent's permission. Reva helped them leave town so they could go to a neighboring state where Sam was old enough. Ross, Billy and Josh stopped them, then Sam went to India to try and persaude Justin. Reva followed her and didn't tell Josh she was going. While Reva was gone, Josh advertised for nannies, and Harley applied. He ended up hiring someone else. But when Reva returned, she hired Harley because (in her weird mental state) she wanted someone she could trust with the kids (because she feared Josh was trying to get rid of her and that Vanessa wanted the children.). After Reva starts treatment, she asks Harley to stay until she's stronger because she's good with the kids. At the party, Reva starts going off the rails, insulting Justin and Josh hauls her to a private dining room to ask WTF. Reva starts confronting him about the "affair" with Vanessa, and he realizes she is weird. He locks her in the dining room and frees Mindy and Van from the ladies room (where Reva has locked them in). Van starts telling him that Reva attacked her and needs help.  Reva escapes out the window of the dining room and goes back to the party, climbs onto a table and starts a striptease. Josh gets her to stop, takes her home and after filling Ed in, decides to go to the doctor the next day. Reva then takes off and spends days running around town, coming on to a guy she thinks is Billy, Billy, Hamp, Frank and Roger.  Roger takes her to his apartment and takes nude pictures of her, which he tries to blackmail Billy with. He wants the deed to the land the Towers is on in exchange for them. (Billy had been left the deed by a sweet old lady who lost her home in the 5th street fire. Roger had stolen the deed from her before she died. After Roger took those pics of Reva, she saw him hide them, and took an envelope from the hiding place. She didn't realize she'd taken the deed and not the pictures.)  Anyway, Billy and Vanessa trick Roger into burning the pictures, claim the deed and at the Towers opening reveal that Billy owns the land and therefore the Towers. That's what led to Roger and Alex's breakup and Roger and Mindy's affair. Mark Lewis was on ATWT? 1986 is not a good year, storywise. No bueno. Muy no bueno.
    • All the time they spent trying to make viewers feel sorry for Chad only for him to not even last that long. I wonder if they knew Richard Burgi was going so quickly. You're right about Josie replacing Cheryl. On paper, this should have made sense, given all the ties Josie had to the canvas, but I did prefer Cheryl. There was something very synthetic about Alexandra Wilson.  I suppose even if she did have some fans they were just so used to getting rid of people left and right, so she was more collateral damage. As you said above I do wonder what the plans were for Peggy Lazarus. I think AWHP mentioned her once telling Peter that Peggy Lazarus wasn't her real name. Maybe she would have been another Carl moll... Rebecca Hollen never did get her due in her soap roles.
    • So true...Hackney might have had a story on FC with Richard being an old lover of his, but reveals herself to be a Cartel member and blackmails Richard with something into doing her dirty work  LOL. But of course Richard had his hands full with the double trouble sisters Ms. Jones and Ms. Braxton that season.

    • Cat herself will be a stumbling block all her own as she vowed to Chad to stay away from him, thus redeeming her of her crime morally. Classic DAYS would have them gazing longingly at each other at Doug's Place or Blondie's, while Liz is serenading the room with a song aptly chosen to represent their feelings of emotional turmoil.
    • From what I just recently watched, they were setting her up to go into future stories. She was Emmy nomination worthy in the material I saw. If some viewers did not like her, the character could have been rehabilitated after that sick storyline. It feels like they destroyed a character for fun and then tossed her to the curb. Spencer had chemistry with everyone. I'm just retroactively angry on Spencer's behalf.  You're right about how Cheryl was often forgotten and pushed aside and I would take Cheryl over Josie. I think soaps need characters like Cheryl. Characters like Josie are way too common. Josie always got on my nerves.
