By that time Guza was writing Scott to be a single-minded villainous prosecutor who was going after the poor mobettes because he was being vindictive for no other reason than his own fame and fortune. I always wondered why they never brought in the Karen aspect, but I guess that would have given Scott another dimension he was not allowed to have.

I hated that Guza did that to Scott when I had such great memories of him with Dominique and also with Laura.

By the time PC went off the air, there were only about 100 of us watching it, isn't that right? They were probably not expecting a huge uprising.

I used to watch PC, but only because it came on right after I got home from work at night. It was comic relief before I went to bed.

I used to love One Life more than GH but the shows are just so different that I don't see the point in merging them and in the first interview Valentini gave, he stated that they would first be focusing on GH and worry about crossovers later. GH needed a lot of fixing before they even considered a crossover.

It would have made more sense for ABC to merge ABC/OLTL instead of outright cancelling both. Both being Nixon soaps, they had a more similar vibe and tone.Being that the towns are relatively close to each other, crossovers wouldnt have felt so contrived/forced

Oh ok I never knew this laugh.png my tweet is really dumb now.

Re: Carlintini caring about soaps: I'm just going by what I read about them as a team from other posters & their interviews; I like the fact how Ron started for the most part from the ground up; I stopped watching their show quite a few years ago; I didn't like how they wrote Evangeline Williamson so along with many of her fans I bailed. I can't comment on how badly it was written/produced esp since it has been said repeatedly Brian Frons was all in it... Carlivati said (in a dc podcast a couple of years ago) that he sat down w/Frons with his outlines then it was tweaked .... then approved (I assume).

I agree the problem started at PC, killing Karen off for no reason other than the fact that Marie Wilson was not being used. But, GH had stopped aknowledging plot points on PC and vice versa. These shows had seemingly existed in separate continuities. A fact still not rectified since GH's cancellation.

BTW Cheap, I love the picture of Lisa Rinna in your profile. It is a great shot; I wish she looked like that on air.

Yeah the producers job is to handle production. That heavily consists of editing the show, handling the budget, overseeing casting, overseeing directing, set design, etc

Ron started off not qualified for his job from the get go. He started off as a laywer not a writer. And if they get the Frons past so does Guza and so does GW yeah no excuses they just arent good at writing/production.

I thought the EP was also the showrunner. Some of the stuff the HWs get blamed for should land at the feet of the EPs.

It was always said that Frons micromanaged OLTL less than GH and AMC because he hated OLTL and wasn't interested enough to control it. If that's so, then Cartini get even less of a pass.

At the end of the day, GH was spared, in part, because of Cartini's involvement in that otherwise comatose soap. Their inclusion of the OLTL characters (which I'm well aware of it being a ploy) was a great move, as well as vindication for those whose superior soap was cut short while the most inferior of the three got to (inexplicably) live on.

And, well, I'll straight out say it - the presence of John, Starr, and/or Todd is the only reason why many are tuning in in the first place, as we consider this current soap to be an empty vessel that Cartini have them allowed to play the next chapter of their lives out in. Should Cartini foolishly rid the show of the OLTLers, it's a given that many like myself will take their viewership with them - and I'm sure that is the last thing that they'd want.

    • Well, Josh was a horndog. LOL Yep. It was one of the first really weird things Reva did with her PPD. She became obsessed with the idea that Dylan and Sam should get married. Sam was only 17, and needed her parent's permission. Reva helped them leave town so they could go to a neighboring state where Sam was old enough. Ross, Billy and Josh stopped them, then Sam went to India to try and persaude Justin. Reva followed her and didn't tell Josh she was going. While Reva was gone, Josh advertised for nannies, and Harley applied. He ended up hiring someone else. But when Reva returned, she hired Harley because (in her weird mental state) she wanted someone she could trust with the kids (because she feared Josh was trying to get rid of her and that Vanessa wanted the children.). After Reva starts treatment, she asks Harley to stay until she's stronger because she's good with the kids. At the party, Reva starts going off the rails, insulting Justin and Josh hauls her to a private dining room to ask WTF. Reva starts confronting him about the "affair" with Vanessa, and he realizes she is weird. He locks her in the dining room and frees Mindy and Van from the ladies room (where Reva has locked them in). Van starts telling him that Reva attacked her and needs help.  Reva escapes out the window of the dining room and goes back to the party, climbs onto a table and starts a striptease. Josh gets her to stop, takes her home and after filling Ed in, decides to go to the doctor the next day. Reva then takes off and spends days running around town, coming on to a guy she thinks is Billy, Billy, Hamp, Frank and Roger.  Roger takes her to his apartment and takes nude pictures of her, which he tries to blackmail Billy with. He wants the deed to the land the Towers is on in exchange for them. (Billy had been left the deed by a sweet old lady who lost her home in the 5th street fire. Roger had stolen the deed from her before she died. After Roger took those pics of Reva, she saw him hide them, and took an envelope from the hiding place. She didn't realize she'd taken the deed and not the pictures.)  Anyway, Billy and Vanessa trick Roger into burning the pictures, claim the deed and at the Towers opening reveal that Billy owns the land and therefore the Towers. That's what led to Roger and Alex's breakup and Roger and Mindy's affair.
    • All the time they spent trying to make viewers feel sorry for Chad only for him to not even last that long. I wonder if they knew Richard Burgi was going so quickly. You're right about Josie replacing Cheryl. On paper, this should have made sense, given all the ties Josie had to the canvas, but I did prefer Cheryl. There was something very synthetic about Alexandra Wilson.  I suppose even if she did have some fans they were just so used to getting rid of people left and right, so she was more collateral damage. As you said above I do wonder what the plans were for Peggy Lazarus. I think AWHP mentioned her once telling Peter that Peggy Lazarus wasn't her real name. Maybe she would have been another Carl moll... Rebecca Hollen never did get her due in her soap roles.
    • So true...Hackney might have had a story on FC with Richard being an old lover of his, but reveals herself to be a Cartel member and blackmails Richard with something into doing her dirty work  LOL. But of course Richard had his hands full with the double trouble sisters Ms. Jones and Ms. Braxton that season.

    • Cat herself will be a stumbling block all her own as she vowed to Chad to stay away from him, thus redeeming her of her crime morally. Classic DAYS would have them gazing longingly at each other at Doug's Place or Blondie's, while Liz is serenading the room with a song aptly chosen to represent their feelings of emotional turmoil.
    • From what I just recently watched, they were setting her up to go into future stories. She was Emmy nomination worthy in the material I saw. If some viewers did not like her, the character could have been rehabilitated after that sick storyline. It feels like they destroyed a character for fun and then tossed her to the curb. Spencer had chemistry with everyone. I'm just retroactively angry on Spencer's behalf.  You're right about how Cheryl was often forgotten and pushed aside and I would take Cheryl over Josie. I think soaps need characters like Cheryl. Characters like Josie are way too common. Josie always got on my nerves.
    • CBS was back in third place in 1994/95. That was the season CBS lost NFL broadcasting rights which also cost them several established affiliates in major media markets. 1995 CBS was sold to Westinghouse and Les Moonves arrived. 1995/96 CBS was trying to be young and cool to compete with NBC and Fox, but it was an epic failure and CBS was once again in third place.
    • I tend to think that Chad will actually listen to Jen (this time). And that will be the next stumbling block in their relationship, which will open the possibilities for Cat to seek another member of their love triangle... To iterate my earlier thought, I am also not a fan of the person Melissa Reeves, but the character of Jennifer looks so chic this week, especially in comparison to Hope (and Gabi).  That blunt haircut is a winner.
    • I think Cheryl was essentially replaced by Josie, and it seems likely that Lemay wanted to bring the Frames back into the picture and for a variety of reasons that it would be McKinnons who would make way for them. Cheryl didn't really get many layers -- she was pretty and kind and sweet and faded into the background so that Scott could participate in the AIDS storyline with Dawn. Looking at the AWHP, other than (not very) shockingly being in love with her mother's adopted son Scott, Cheryl apparently went out with Sam and flirted with much-too-old-for-her John Hudson and MJ's ex-boyfriend/pimp Chad. I know MJ told Mary that she had been a prostitute, but did she tell Cheryl and did she tell anyone about Chad's pimping?
    • I feel the same way about Melissa Reeves' Jennifer. She just makes the show feel like home by her presence alone. I am perfectly okay with them coming in every once and awhile, which probably fits Reeves' schedule better anyway. Their connections to Salem are still there: JJ, the grandkids, Jack still owning half of The Spectator ... they're perfect recurring characters. All this talk of Jennifer being in the wrong regarding Cat is absurd. Jennifer is not being villainized in any way, shape, or form, she's just being allowed to actually be human, which adds odds to the obstacle of Chad and Cat eventually getting together. All inner conflict. Keep it coming!
    • Hahaha. Jean Hackney, Angelica Nero, and the Falcon Crest henchwomen were all straight out of a James Bond movie.
