And I think the bit where Marlene and Darrell talk about week-long plots just shows off their inexperience as headwriters. You can't have that. You need plots that continue with a solid beginning, middle and end and something that spins off into another story. Viewers will have more than a short attention span if the plot captivates them and is well-written.

It reminds me of when Michael Malone and Linda Gottlieb started at OLTL and they thought they could do short-term stories which made them feel important but ultimately had little to no impact on the canvas (like one about a friend of Viki Buchanan's who had an abusive husband). They soon realized their mistake, and while there were still some short-term stories (like one where Luna had to save her husband from death, and stories about capers or jewel heists), they fit into a larger narrative.

You can tell a long term story and still not bog it down in repetition. Soap writers just don't know how to do this now.

Come on, I really want to see Caroline as a model. She's in great shape, and Victor will never look at AARP Magazine the same way again.

I'm in love with this idea, as long as she gets to continue to be batsh!t crazy. Maybe she can fall for Chad too and drug his chowder to get him into bed, making Melanie & Gabi both think she slept with him.

I miss crazy Caroline. One thing I liked about Higley was that she was actually using her as opposed to throwing her in the closet as MarDar did.

The problem is each character comes with its own fanbase, and I think we're to the point where if someone left that group would walk with them. A lot of people tune in because they like certain characters these days, not the whole show. Yeah, I know it's not right. I have my favorites, but I still like the show and the cast as a whole.

That's true and I say so what. If soaps catered to fan bases for the last 50 plus years these shows would have died a death long ago. Days already countered the myth that losing fan bases hurts a show when they let the DHs go along with MBE and SN. The show not only did not drop but actually thrived for a good period of time. It's about evolving and allowing characters to develop and grow and building new fan bases as new stories get transitioned to.Every soap today allows themselves to an extent to be dictated to by fan bases and the shows are not any better for it nor do their hang onto viewers nor are they drawing any new viewers with it.

I guess I'm the only one here who enjoys watching the show daily...that sucks.

I enjoy it as well. Some of things posted are true but I am thankful it's still on the air.

I enjoy it too. Face it, the show could be (and has been) a whole lot worse than it is now. I wish the balance factor would be addressed and Marlene and Darrell would reconsider the idea of week-long plot arcs, but maybe the public backlash will convince them.

You're not alone. For all their faults, the show is still watchable and a lot better than Higley.

Count me in as well. Yes, the stories are rushed, but it's definitely watchable.. I haven't fast forwarded through anything in a while. Even Melanie is pleasant to watch lately, mostly because she's used well and not crammed down our throats a la Higley.

Banning recaps (99.9% of people hate those, but I'm a firm believer in them)?sad.png

I wouldn't say I hate recaps. I just hate the haphazard way they're often done.

Sami: WIll, would you like some eggs for breakfast?

Will: How could you think of eggs when you slept with EJ, lied about it, became a mole at Grandma's company, acted oblivious to my man love and fought with Aunt Carrie?

Sami: How about some oatmeal, then?

Something like that, yes.

I just think it's terminally boring. And all the actors seem lost and/or sleepy.
