Unpopular Opinions: 2012 Edition

I'll go first:

B&B

- While not perfect, the show is currently in the best shape it's been in since 2003.

Y&R

- Genie Francis is terrific as Genevieve Atkinson. I know she wasn't well liked in her first few months on her show, but I'm currently watching June 2011 episodes and I LOVE her campy take on the character, despite the overall wretchedness of the storyline. Although I never saw Francis on GH, so I don't have that to compare it to. I'd love to see her on B&B in a Sally Spectra/Jackie Marone type role.

- Phyllis is one of very few characters to actually flourish under MAB (save for the Lucy custody madness). And of course, I still consider La Stafford to be the best actress in daytime.

- Maura West was AT LEAST as miscast as Diane as Shari Shattuck was as Ashley.

Bwhahahahahahaha...Thanks Cheap!

I think he's so cute!

Yes he is cute hot....pic 7 I think the one Cheap put up of him is hot...for some reason I find it hot...I know its another smirk...but seeing it all the time in his acting and with a story being so serious as it is suppose to be doesnt work for Massey. I know what I would do if I were EP and HW of the show with the story besides ending it.

Not everyday, lol.

Okay. Then he's cute until he opens his mouth bc his attitude downright stinks. Will, Im talking about

He looks so much like that Food Network bigwig who pops up on their various shows, like Next Food Network Star. Some fans call him "Kermit."

- Jeanne Cooper's acting has sucked for years and she has no business still being a lead. I cringe every time MAB has Katherine yell at God in an obvious attempt to secure an Emmy reel. Y&R did just fine ratings-wise during the Jack Smith and LML eras when Katherine was a supporting character and if Susan Flannery can be backburnered on B&B, so can Cooper.

- The only time Nick was ever likeable was during the early years of Phick.

- Victoria has never been written better than during Heinle's first 1-2 years on the show.

- Michael Muhney > Chris Engen

- Jennifer Landon > Vail Bloom

- David Tom > Ryan Brown > Billy Miller

- Susan Walters > Alex Donnelley

- Tammin Sursok > Adrianne Leon

- Rachel Kimsey > Ashley Bashioum > Clementine Ford

Jeanne Cooper basically is backburnered. The last story she had was all about Tucker, not her.

Back when Karen Witter played Tina people loved her. It has only been years later that people started talking about how she was not Tina.

I don't know where you got that. Since time immemorial Andrea Evans was the true Tina. Karen Witter was tolerable as a recast who people inexplicably called "Tina" but she was not Tina anymore than that other guy was Max or on GH that other other guy was Duke.

Jeanne's acting has only been bad since LML & that was mainly because Latham made her into a prop for EVERYONE.

- The only time Nick was ever likeable was during the early years of Phick.

Nick hasn't been Nick since Smith & Latham made him unrecognizable to make the Giggleship happen.

- Victoria has never been written better than during Heinle's first 1-2 years on the show.

The character's best years were when Heather Tom was in the role.

There's a reason why Amelia's Victoria has become a glorified extra (that plays the same two stories for years) now.

- Susan Walters > Alex Donnelley

Walters is a good actress but her Diane was way too nice.

- Tammin Sursok > Adrianne Leon

Australian Racism!

- Rachel Kimsey > Ashley Bashioum > Clementine Ford

Rachel Kimsey was not Mackenzie.

Another example of a character being almost destroyed to prop a miscast actress.

Two? I think you're being generous.

I think that both Clementine Ford & Rachel Kimsey were great actress. Mac however, is a character that todays soaps can not write anymore and the character was so changed that neither could have been accepted as Mac, because they were not Mac. I dont think the writers changed Mac to fit them, I think they were cats to play a Mac viewers didnt want to see.

Similar for AH as Victoria. I dont think Victoria was changed to suit her, I think she was picked to play a Victoria the writers (and perhaps EB wanted).

Jeanne's acting can't be blamed on LML or MAB. Other actors (Jess Walton for instance) have risen above bad writing and turned manure into fertilizer. Jeanne just got lazy.

Nick hasn't been Nick since Smith & Latham made him unrecognizable to make the Giggleship happen.

Smith and LML may have completely changed Nick, but it was for the better. He had personality. He had a sense of humor. He wasn't the stiff, wooden, cookie-cutter soap opera meat head he was under Bell and Alden (and has regressed back into under MAB).

The character's best years were when Heather Tom was in the role.

There's a reason why Amelia's Victoria has become a glorified extra (that plays the same two stories for years) now.

Heather Tom is an infinitely better actress than Amelia Heinle but her Victoria was written as a selfish, spoilt daddy's girl with ZERO likeable qualities. Originally Heinle's Victoria was written as a more mature, nicer version of Tom's. The character has only become an unrecognizeable, spineless waste of space since MAB took over.

Walters is a good actress but her Diane was way too nice.

Really? I've never seen Diane Jenkins as 'nice' but I thought Walters' Diane was much more manipulative than Donnelley's. I can't picture Donnelley's Diane throwing herself under Phyllis' car or burning down the pool house (or doing half the things West's Diane did).

Jeanne's acting can be blamed on LML & Maria.

While Jeanne has gotten lazy (to some degree) & while Jess has had her share of bad stories & backburnering Jill hasn't been written anywhere near OOC as Katherine that would cause Jess to do anywhere near as much heavy lifting in terms of acting as Jeanne has done to make Katherine's actions work (adopting Amber & Kevin, digging through landfills, marrying Murphy).

Smith and LML may have completely changed Nick, but it was for the better.

They completely changed the character for the worst. That's why Nick has become as much (if not more) of a dead end as many "fans" claim Sharon to be. Because as much as Sharon has supposedly been "ruined" she's had plenty of stories beyond Nick since the divorce. How many has Nick had?

He had personality. He had a sense of humor.

He had those things under Bell & Alden. Except under Bell & Alden Nick was allowed maturity & dignity.

Now his humor involves greasy hair & dude jokes.

He wasn't the stiff, wooden, cookie-cutter soap opera meat head he was under Bell and Alden

Except Nick was never those things under Bell & Alden.

He was a strong male lead & half of a genuine supercouple.

There's a reason why Nick NEVER has story now unless it involves St. Giggly (which was never the case prior to their "relationship").

Heather Tom is an infinitely better actress than Amelia Heinle but her Victoria was written as a selfish, spoilt daddy's girl with ZERO likeable qualities.

Heather's Victoria had PLENTY of "likeable" qualities. And the fact that the character remained so sympathetic as she was (despite being just like Victor) is mainly Heather's doing.

And don't act like Amelia's Victoria wasn't selfish.

She spent the first 6 months of her stint fighting with Nick & whining about Abby & Ashley & Michael & Victor & Jack & Brad.

Originally Heinle's Victoria was written as a more mature, nicer version of Tom's.

That's the point. Victoria ISN'T nice.

And it was clear from the moment that Amelia was cast that the character would be written WAY OOC to justify Amelia's limitations & the fact that she was hideously miscast. Hence why the character went from business stories to sleeping with JT & getting baby rabies.

Really? I've never seen Diane Jenkins as 'nice' but I thought Walters' Diane was much more manipulative than Donnelley's. I can't picture Donnelley's Diane throwing herself under Phyllis' car or burning down the pool house (or doing half the things West's Diane did).

In no way was Walters Diane more manipulative than Donnelly's.

Donnelly's Diane was the one who stole & impregnated herself with Grambo's sperm (one doesn't get more manipulative than that).

The things Susan's Diane did (laying down in front of St. Giggly's car & burning down the poolhouse) were things Alex's Diane would have never done & Susan didn't have the edge to pull it off.

She played Diane like an desperate beauty pageant queen instead of the intelligent, accomplished businesswoman that Diane was.
