Who is the first recast you remember?

I started watching DAYS right when Peter Reckell returned (Marlena freed from the devil! Hope opens the puzzlebox! Sami crashes Carrie & Austin's wedding!) so I missed out on RKK by about a week.

First recast I witnessed was Stephanie Cameron taking over Melissa Reeves as Jenn in December 1995. I remember being confused as to why they would replace her with a brunette, but then discovered that Jack & Jenn were disguised undercover at the Blue Note (Jude St. Clair's nightclub) right when Cameron took over. I instantly thought that she's a pale comparison to the original.

I remember those but for me, I think the earliest one I took note of was Roscoe Born replacing Richard Muenz on RH, because I hated the recast so much. To this day, I still don't care to watch RB on screen. (Didn't help that his character of Mitch on OLTL literally turned me off that show several times). OTOH, I loved Cassie # 2 Ava Haddad.

IIRC, the recast Frisco was Kevin Bernhardt, whom they later brought back to play psycho-killer Kevin O'Connor, Lucy Coe's first onscreen boyfriend.

Oh, I think the earliest recast/temporary for me on OLTL was when Erika Slezak went on maternity leave and was replaced with Christine Jones.

They found gold as far as Eddie Cibrian goes... with the hotness level and everything, they exploited that as much as they could lol.

No, Caitlin wasn't recast early; she was there for a year and a half before being recast. Maybe you're thinking of another young actress on that show - Adrienne Frantz who left the show after a few months and was replaced with a failure of an actress.

I just remembered my first one, it was the replacement for Erin Torpey when she got mono (the temporary recast played the key scenes where Jessica got drunk and slept with Will which resulted in her pregnancy with Megan). I can't believe I remember that it was mono lol. I recall reading somewhere that this was JFP's attempt to age Jessica but it didn't stick because ET was extremely popular with the audience.

These posts are really making me feel old at the age of 39 lol. The earliest recasts that stand out for me are from Guiding Light-Peter Simon replaced Mart Hulswit as Ed, Jennifer Cooke replaced Kristen Vigard as Morgan, and Christopher Mercante (think I spelled it right) replaced Kevin Bacon as Tim. These stand out as these switches came in 1981 I think, I loved the actors who left (Hulswit & Vigard were fired, not sure about Bacon), and I didn't read soap mags back then and didn't know these changes were coming. To me, the biggest mistake was Cooke, as Morgan just wasn't Morgan anymore. That didn't hurt me as much as Simon as Mart was my Ed. I didn't realize how much I grew to like Simon until he replaced his own replacement Richard Van Vleet in 1986. Loved him by time he left again in 1996. So glad he was the one who got the happy ending with Maureen Garrett's Holly.

She carried on about that damn compact for months! My friend showed me a YouTube clip a few months back that was literally KA's Billie standing on the pier, caressing the compact and muttering, "Hope can butter me up all she wants... BUT SHE'LL NEVER GET HER HANDS ON THIS COMPACT!!!"

I started watching Days in the spring of 1997, so the first recast I can remember was Mark Valley to Steve Wilder as Jack Deveraux, in the infamous prison shower switch-off.

    • This better be something, because as I said, so far it's just cliches and stereotypes -- the story we've heard a thousand times about the homeless person who doesn't want a home and prefers to live on the streets.
    • @rsclassicfanforever thank you very much for the recent uploads of season 13 containing some episodes that were skipped or glitchy on YouTube!  I had a look at 3172 though and there is no audio for most of it? Would you have a copy with complete audio? Fingers crossed! Thanks again!

    • I like Margaret well enough in what I've seen of her as Paige - she is green but she has real star power.  I agree about the actor who plays Brian. He's...mostly just there. Not bad but not great.  My main issue is with the guy who plays Owen. He's just not appealing to me. I can believe Nola being obsessed with him, but he's draining to watch.  I'm surprised people objected to the quasi-incest elements as it wasn't anything that new for soaps.  Speaking of Kim, here's a rare episode of an anthology show she did called The Evil Touch.

    •   I get what you're both saying, and I think the show was lucky to have even made it that long, but I think they could have still maintained a certain audience - Second Chances did before the earthquake. CBS was an older network anyway. I think the premise of Knots was still usable, it was more the characters who were a problem - many of the older figures were played out. If the show had done a better job building up its younger cast instead of making so many poor choices in the late '80s and early '90s, they could have kept things going a little longer.
    • I wish I cared about the homeless lady as much as everyone else seems to. After the nothing burger that was the lawsuit, this just feels like another boring Naomi storyline at Orphy Genes since she has no office.
    • That's great to hear. Thanks. I wish that was more readily available.
    • Just learned that Clifton Davis wrote this song!  I had no idea.

    • I think even if Marland had wanted to write more for Sara/Adam, his hands would have been tied as Robert Milli was one of the actors dumped by P&G due to his age.  From the bits and pieces I've seen of that period, Sara does have a key role in the Carrie plot, and Marland briefly gave her son Tim a more important part. I'm not sure if they just gave up on Tim once Kevin Bacon left or if they never really cared. I did not even know for many years that there was an actor in the part after Kevin...and then not one, but two. The Spauldingfield video on Tim doesn't even show the last actor (Nigel Reed), which kind of says it all. Anyway, I do get the sense Marland has some use for Sara, or for Millette. It's only after he goes that she is dumped. Of course he didn't ever hire her for his other shows, so maybe I'm wrong. (then again he never hired Geraldine Court either and he seemed very fond of her) Ann is an odd character to me as she is a proto-Lillian in being defined by pining for a Bauer brother and being involved in the death of one of their wives. I do wonder what else they could have done with her. She was friends with Diane, wasn't she? They could have had Diane manipulate her against Mike, I suppose.
    • Yassss....come on Maurice and Brandon...give us nothing!!! Wow, their need to develop their craft shone like a blinding light this episode. Brandon in his Martin and Smitty scenes sounded like he was reading and the facial expressions were giving Disney Channel. He did much better against Maurice in the Martin v Ted scenes. Now, Teddd-dyy (Dana's voice) was just flat. I watched the episode just now after reading the comment on here that Maurice needs to stop swaying, and now I can't unsee it. Has it really been this bad all along?  Ambyr carries. I don't need to say anymore. I am kind of excited to see this Kat/Tomas/Eva stuff play out.  Bill is such a dick to Dani. Like that's the mother of your children that you cheated on with your daughter's best friend but you look to take those low blows. Lord! When he said that thing about it being obvious he didn't care about Dani anymore since he was the one that walked out...that was cold. I even felt for Dani. Bill definitely is all over the spectrum. You can see a villain possibly surfacing, but you also see this great father. The elder Duprees move a little funny. I'm wondering what that is all about. Are they just overly protective matriarch and patriarch because they think it's what's best for their family, or are they afraid their secrets will come out or there's something more sinister there. Why would Vernon want to keep that information from Martin?  I hope something interesting comes out of this June stuff, but as of right now, I'm not too invested. It's not helping my interest on Naomi or Jacob either. However, tge actress playing Naomi has comes a long way from day one.
