ABC Soaps In Depth Official PageInteresting.... we called Prospect Park to request an interview with the execs over there about this whole thing, and their response is that they aren't answering any questions, and have nothing to say beyond the press release at this time. Hmm....

Clear Drama, SID says the quote is from "one AMC actor"

I'm feeling very Indiana Jones right now. "I've got a bad feelin' about this." Hope I'm wrong!

I'm not sure how you make a MAJOR move like this and then have BOTH ABC and PP say "Yeah, we're not gonna answer questions."

Well what do you expect? Some answers right away? Give them time to make some decisions.

Not surprised. The soap press is going to have to make some changes.

I have to say, I would be ONE HUNDRED PERCENT fine with a much lower budget and smaller cast. A hundred percent fine with that. As long as they put TONS of careful thought into how they get from where they are now to where they end up. There's no possible way for them to have the same budget...how could they keep the same budget while reaching a smaller audience? I don't see it.

I will also say this...10 minute episodes, once every other week? They can keep that sh!t.

Not sure about the frequency of the online episodes, but the press release states that they will keep the same length they have now.

"We believe that by continuing to produce the shows in their current hour format and with the same quality, viewers will follow the show to our new, online network," said Prospect Park heads Rich Frank and Jeff Kwatinetz.

Added Daytime Emmy winner Agnes Nixon, who created both soaps: "I'm just so happy that ABC found a home where the legacies of All My Children and One Life to Live'can continue. I'm excited for their future with Prospect Park."

"Together, we are a big family that keeps going, and I'm looking forward to working alongside these wonderful people as we ensure that the shows will continue with all the love and excitement we've always had. I also am so happy for our loyal fans, whom we love so much, and who have been so supportive over the last 40 plus years."

I could honestly get behind each show having just two or three hour long episodes a week.

Or maybe one week AMC airs 5 days a week, the next OLTL airs five days a week, rotating like that.

All My Children and One Life to Live are not going down the soap drain after all. In a surprising announcement—but I'll bet a pleasing one to fans who felt betrayed by the cancellations—ABC has sold the rights to both longtime soap operas to the Prospect Park company, which will produce them and run them daily online.

According to ABC, details about the timing and other plans are still to come from Prospect Park. The detail I'm most curious about is whether and how the soaps will pay for themselves in their current form as online ventures. I'm rooting for them, though, even if not a soap fan myself: not only does this mean a new avenue for TV creativity online if it works, but it's another potential second life for series that couldn't work on broadcast.

Granted, most cancelled cult favorites do not have the long-built fanbases that soap operas do. But I'm guessing Prospect Park should get ready for a lot of Save Our Show e-mails in the future.

"I have listened to GL for a long time but I have no interest in watching it on television no matter what actors will continue to be on the show or what the stories are. Therefore when GL ends on CBS radio, I will no longer follow the soap."

One key difference, however, between the GL situation and this current scenario is that in GL's case, it aired concurrently on radio and television for four years (to help viewers make the transition). Obviously, AMC and OLTL will not be broadcast concurrently on ABC television and Prospect Park's website, so viewers will not have any time to adjust.

I still wish someone would consider 15 minute episodes. These could be devoted to intense moments between a handful of characters, like the soaps did in the old days, back when someone gave a damn. Just go watch some of the old Love of Life or Search for Tomorrow or Guiding Light episodes - some of them are fantastic. GL was 15 minutes for almost 20 years - if you go look for some of the stuff from around 1966, it's firing on all cylinders.

True, but it's been airing online for a number of years.

OLTL Facebook Page (similar message on the AMC page): Wonderful news One Life fans! ABC has licensed both OLTL and AMC to Prospect Park, a media and production company, which will allow for the stories of Llanview and Pine Valley to continue after the finales. Get all the details at abc.com!

Today's new really puts a new prospective on those "What If?" wepisodes btw....

Susan Lucci makes what 500,000 dollars a year, right? I know back in the day she made a million dollars but I know that she had to several pay cuts. I wonder what they will be offering the actors in this new venture. I think that they will have to cut a couple of the salaries of the returning actors. I doubt that they will have a 30 person cast, I say it down to 15 core cast members with the rest being recurring.
