I think OLTL overall has more life, energy, and vitality than AMC. I think that's kind of apparent. If that makes it a better show, then so be it. I don't find one show's storylines any better than the other's. A lot of it is pretty soulless, heartless, agenda-driven crap. I actually find the show's tackling mental health purely for laughs incredibly insulting and offensive. Yes, there was always a huge camp factor to the Niki Smith stuff, but they always seemed to write it seriously and usually maintained the integrity of Agnes's original vision for the issue...yes, even during the Rauch years. It was never played solely for laughs or to titillate. This whole Tess-Jess stuff, and now the Viki-Niki stuff again, is played just for comedy and titillation. I find it unwatchable. It's just way too much. I was watching the show today, and I turned it off after the first ten minutes. It takes a lot to offend me, but OLTL does when it comes to this. Maybe that's RC's goal, to shock and offend, "just as long as they watch," but it just doesn't work for the mental health stuff.

This is silly to argue still, but I just can't help myself. I would agree that OLTL has more life and certainly energy than AMC has had for a while, though I think that's changing a bit. One reason I prefer AMC is I find more heart there--even with the endless Rylee pimping etc, lately than I have with OLTL. And I do definitely agree that OLTL's current campy sensibility leaves a bad taste in my mouth when they suddenly throw into one of those stories a father trying to rape his daughter, or try to mix comedy with the DID but still bring up one comic alter leaving her daughter who now is another DID comedy act to be molested and filmed for kiddie porn... Which is why I wonder about Jamey's praising of their social issues.

I actually--and yes I admit I was sick of Zendall the last few years--but don't want all these couples to have happy endings. It's much more powerful to me if Kendall manages from now to then to have fully dealt with Zack's death and not then have a deux ex machina last minute save. Agnes herself has said that life goes on, people deal with happiness, tragedy... I do think that fans wanting their couples to come back even if it means endless return from the dead stories (and soap execs thinkign this is a sure way to lure back viewers) has harmed the integrity of soaps more and more. And I don't want Dixie to return either. Sentimental ghost or dreams scenes with these characters I'd be more than cool with. But if in the final month a bunch of characters return from the dead, I think it's a waste of time.

Late to the gate but this whole thing is just awesomeness. I totally agree. I'm thinking about potential multiple returns from the dead and it's franky stirring much more WTF from me rather than excitement.

Re: Daytime Confidential While I agree with some of Gidden's diatribe, WHO CARES anymore..

OLTL was always going to be canceled first. Frons verified this. What does it matter now?

This OLTL vs AMC stuff has gotten tedious. He needs to really have some more balance in his writing, whether he is a OLTL fan or not

Yes, they are both canceled.

Yes, they are both canceled.

Exactly....it's a moot point. Frons canceled both shows in the same breath, so what's the point of it now?

It sounds more than corny, but it is too bad that certain bloggers, etc, seem Hell bent on trying to start--or maintain a rivalry between the two soap fans when really one is not going to be saved at this point over the other, and surely a fan of only one of the shows can still relate to the other fan being disappointed their show is dead... If that made sense :P

I think it is weird in one way, isn't there a lot of overlap in the fanbase of AMC and OLTL? Why hate on each other, when really it should be about trying to make things suck less than they do.

The whole "rivalry" baffles me as I've never thought of them even running the same race let alone the overlapping fanbase thing. It's relatively new to me as I got wind of it here at SON only a year or so ago.

I always thought they did share much of the same fanbase--but maybe that's simply cuz I've watched them from virtually the same time (OLTL abotu a year and a half later), and due to all the crossovers, the Agnes connection, etc.

The rivalry itself, I think, is new. Once it became clear that ABC wasn't going to be running three soaps for long, things got crazy. But if ABC released a statement tomorrow saying they would save the show with the loudest fans?

Close the door, turn off the lights, Love T.K.O., call it a day. The soapocalypse would be upon us.

Wondering will Agnes Nixon come and write for OLTL too ?

LOL and this is where some of the rivalry comes from ;)

There was some talk early in this huge thread, but I kinda doubt it. Remember she left as HW (after choosing and training Gordon Russell to replace her) back in 1973, so the only character still on she's written for would be Vicki and maybe Dorian, even though she's kept some connection with the show... But if she even did a final speech for Vicki or something it would be great.

She may be consulted though, still (and to be fair she's not really HW AMC's final months it seems more like Lorraine Broderick with Agnes playing a bigger role than she has in a long time helping her).

It would certainly be an improvement over the *big moment* dialogue fan-Fiki got today. ;)
