An Interview With William Gray Espy 1974?

Interviews are not among William Gray Espy's favorite things. Still, his interest in and curiosity about people (and his popularity with viewers) leads him inevitably into them. What will be said about him this time? What tag will someone pin on him? "Shyest playboy" is one of the most recent, and, to William, one of the most surprising. "I never told them I was a playboy. With five scripts a week: five days a week?" he asks rhetorically, and points out that the schedule leaves hardly enough time for sleeping, eating and reading. And no time at all for being a playboy, shy or bold.

Like Snapper Foster, he is soft spoken and seemingly at ease. We asked William about his birthplace. Dothan, Alabama. "There's fresh air. fresh vegetables, no theater and two movie houses. It's growing fast. I don't know whether that's good or bad." The decision to leave his home town and become an actor was made after he had graduated with a degree in philosophy from Vanderbilt University in Nashville. Tennessee. "I knew I didn't want to continue what I'd been doing. I'm not putting education down, and I have no regrets about going to college. But if I'd known then what I know now, I might not have gone. However, I'm here now and I wouldn't change anything.

Where is his Southern accent? He does not sound like someone who has lost an accent, he sounds as if he's never had one. "Of course I had an accent. Everyone in the South has. Fortunately, I met an English actress in New York and working with her helped me to lose it. But I still say some things with an accent." Will he give us an example? No. And we get that direct look again.

As a TV viewer, he'd like to see' more public television drama; more classics = "Moliere," "Shaw," "O'Neill"..."Columbo" is one show he enjoys. "Peter Falk! he says, "now there's a characterization!" William smiles and tells us "This is the most relaxed I've been-during an interview." The smile turns into a laugh and he adds. "Sometimes I wish I was the type who could go home, drink a bottle of. scotch and relax." This is a startling note, and before we can comment, he adds. "But I'm not." Brian Kerwin, who spent 40 days as Greg Foster on "Young and the Restless’’ before starring in "Sheriff Lobo,” will be seen in CBS’s panoramic Civil War mini-series “The Blue and the Gray,” premiering today.Kerwin admits he was thrilled when “Sheriff Lobo” was canceled. “It was great for a short run,” Kerwin says, “but the day we got our cancellation notices I went into my dressing room and gave a whoop. Of course, when I saw other cast members I acted unhappy.”

As for his days on “Y&R,” Brian didn’t consider it the most sociable of experiences. “Except for Julianna McCarthy, who played my mom, I had little contact with the cast. In fact, I think she’s such a terrific actress, whenever I see a property with a female role I think of Julianna.” As for other cast members, Brian recalled “one actress who seemed to take joy in illnesses.” And he recalled the conversation with Beau Kayser, who once played Brock. “Beau started talking to me one day and mentioned he wanted to make records. I said it was something I was interested in too. Suddenly Beau disappeared and never said another word to me.”

Brian does have warm feelings for David Hasselhoff, who played his brother Snapper. “We run into each other every now and then and catch up on what we re doing. Now it’s great because David has the car thing (“Knight Riders” on NBC) and I’m doing Blue and the Gray.’” Incidentally, Brian gives a a finely honed and sensitive portrayal in "Blue and the Gray” of a young man who can’t wait to take up arms and then realizes the horror of war

Does anyone know how early in the years before 2005 that Nick/sharon first started interacting with Phyllis cause i don't remember her ever being in there orbit all those other years. Mostly due to Phyllis being in the abbott orbit but i think i remember a scene from 2004 where Nick/Phyllis talk but perhaps that scene gave them ideas to maybe get her involved with him a year later.

(disclaimer that this is me recapping from memory from years ago, and I might have some things wrong).
Daniel was drunk and Cassie took the keys to drive him home and crashed (she was too young to have a drivers license but had a crush on Daniel). Daniel was blamed for Cassie's death and then he and Lily went on the run. The main thing was Nick and Phyllis and Neil were all upset about teens Daniel and Lily running off to California together. Nick wanted revenge on Daniel, while Phyllis wanted to bring Daniel back home, and Neil wanted to bring Lily back home. Nick, Phyllis, and Neil were traveling around together, trying to find the teens; while Sharon and Malcom stayed in Genoa City. Nick and Phyllis were quarreling the whole time that they were travelling (well quarreling at first). They begrudgingly started to like each other but wouldn't admit it, with suppressed/implied sparks. When Nick got home from that journey, he and Sharon were both trying to mourn the loss of Cassie together; but, as happens sometimes when a child dies, the parents become distant from one another. Nick felt more comfortable with Phyllis.

Things started to build when Michael and Lauren were planning to get married. I remember that Phyllis was more best friends with Michael than with Lauren then. There was a bachelor's party for Michael, and all the attendees were men except for Phyllis, and Nick and Phyllis and the others were all smoking cigars at the bachelors party. Finally on the day of Michael and Lauren's wedding in December 2025, Nick drove Phyllis home afterwards, and was about to leave, but then they had wild sex on her couch.

There wasn't much Phyllis/Sharon interaction at all, other than discussion of Daniel/Cassie. It was mainly Phick interacting. Phick hid their affair, and it went on for a while until Sharon found out.

A Sure Bet: Lance Will Plerce Hearts by Jon Michael Reed

The Young & The Restless is face is more than just a melody and that the newest cast addition will ring the chimes of female viewers heartstrings. Actually, it's a fairly safe bet, since the ploy has been used since Day One of "Y & R." The "new" Lance Prentiss on the soap is Dennis Cole. Cole's face may be familiar to nighttime TV audiences. He co-starred on ''Barbary Coast" years ago and on the equally shortlived serial "Bracken's World." He also has guested on such series as "Love Boat" and "Charlie's Angels," which brings us to his most memorable role.

PURVEYORS OF the sccandal rags followed every detail of Cole's marriage to Jaclyn Smith, one of the original "Angels." The marriage was an on-again, off-again unmerry-go-round that hit the divorce court skids Daytime TV viewers will be able to follow Cole's portrayal of Lance who's had a much more colorful marital-hassle whirl with the Brooks sisters of "Y & R Lorie and Leslie.

The original Lance, John McCook, left the show last Summer to pursue his singing career.

"Y& R" had hoped that McCook might return, but when that possibility faded, they auditioned hundreds of Hollywood actors, including Troy Donahue, who was reportedly a strong contender. But Cole won out and you can tune in tomorrow to catch his act. On the same show, Jaime Lyn Bauer (Lorie) has been making her annual "I'm leaving" noises. However, she's already had so many leaves of absence for ailments and birthing babies, and studio sources inform us Jaime will be around through spring. But when she fulfills her time-lapsed obligations, it's anyone's guess whether Jaime will exit or stay put.

Cle didn't fire as Lance, and that was probably another reason Bill Bell gave up on that storyline and characters.

I can't picture Troy Donahue as Lance. He was looking rough by the 1980's with his addictions and messy personal life. He did eventually get sober.

From what I've seen of Dennis Cole as Lance, he was not a very good actor.

The four Ls quad got derailed with John McCook departure.
