Most of it is the April/Paul/Barbara story, which I have probably now seen more of between this and the episode repeated for COVID last year than I ever thought - it's mostly interesting to see the good, clear acting from Cynthia Jordan.

It's also fun to see the attempts at sibling banter with Patty and Paul - most of what I've seen of Lilibet's Patty is much more serious.

It's funny that I had never even heard of this storyline until last year, and now between the clips from the vault, that COVID rerun, and this, I feel like I've seen more than enough. Sounds like they're still dragging out the reveal that Paul slept with Barbara, the twin, here in March, and it happened in December 1981. This is right around the time Patty loses her virginity to 30something year old Jack, so her trying to act like she knows all about sex was a cute touch.

Too bad we only get the brief glimpse of Nikki and Cash, a far more interesting story.

This clip must come just before the clips start in the vault. In those clips, you can see a flashback of April and Barbara, where April learns about the affair, and they were wearing the same outfits as the clip you just posted.

I had read about it, and mostly just felt a bit underwhelmed (I liked April in her 1993/4 appearances and this wasn't really the story I thought she had the first time around) and also confused at two different actresses as I was used to soap twins being played by the same actor. Seeing it adds a little more interest, but it still feels like an odd choice for Paul, who was at this point probably their main young male lead.

I know someone sent me a link to the vault last year but I never did keep it or watch much on there. I guess I should while it's still around. At least now between the clip above and you piecing together the other clips, we can say a good amount of the 3/2 episode is available.

I always look forward to your thoughts on this vintage material.

The link is here (the bitly link, best opened in incognito) https://twitter.com/yrvault?lang=en

A wonderful anonymous contributor posted some real gems last summer. A well-curated compilation of clips from 1982-1988, starting with April's family leaving town and Cash's death. It's under Clips but it's very comprehensive, about 20 hours from 1982 alone and has the arcs to all the big plotlines from every year. Definitely recommend you at least check that out.

I think the ratio for her in the past twenty years has been 70% insulting character-trashing story, 25% snoozefest and 5% potentially interesting stuff that they drop too quickly.

What was the reaction back to Mari Jo Mason as a character? I was pretty isolated in my viewing experience and I remember finding her not particularly interesting as a villain-ish character and kind of lightly written as if they created her as a plot device rather than a full-bore character. And yet she did have a lot of story while she was on.
What did others think about her?

    • Okay, I hear ya. But, you know Josh Griffith on one Thursday night fired 7 or 8 writers in one fell swoop! That totally blew my mind. But, I still think this is bunk. And, no, the show is not that bad! Literally, my only problem with it, as a fan, is that I think it could be great & it's just not. It's good, not great. They still are not on top of pacing. They routinely take too long to tell stories. But, one example, the scenes this week with Lulu & Laura were like old time soap come home!
    • Ok nevermind, Wolf is in Marian's getup on the Jan 9th episode. Lucy wakes up at the lighthouse and it's now Marian, drinking tea, and sounding like an old British woman a la Mrs. Doubtfire

Wolf is actually doing a good job as Brett, but I don't think they made him look like a believable Marian - its too clown/drag, but also creepier - and Wolf has a large nose they couldn't hide. I guess at this point, it didn't matter since she was unhinged and revealing him/herself anyway.
    • This is the *new* Rachel Black who just started airing on DAYS 4/25/2025, but of course with the ginormous tape-to-airdate gap on DAYS, she'll be airing on DAYS for months to come. And yet now she'll be new ex-Rachel. LOL.
    • As someone who cut ties with the show a little while after Chris Van Etten came back, I can’t talk on what the show is like now… is the show that bad? But even as a rumour, that’s pretty wild and radical. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of that before.
    • Yes, I know JK is getting on in years, but perhaps he and his family (wife and/or son) could work with him as co-headwriters on the new TEON! I would also be available as a story consultant!

    • It's too bad they didn't see it through. Alan and Van could have married for all the wrong reasons and ended up caring for each other, with Ross in the wings and possibly Rita, too, to cause trouble. Rita was a LITTLE BIT of a schemer. She was kind of the Nola of her era, without the goofy personality. She deliberately went after Ed because she thought he would give her the lifestyle she wanted. She could do malicious things, i.e. cooly seduce Evie's crush (who was played by Jordan Clark, btw) and string him along until she was sure she had Ed. While Rita claimed to be deeply in love with Alan at the time she departed, part of the attraction for her was his money and power. As well as sharing aspects of Nola's character, she was also a more subtle version of Reva-she grew up poor and always wanted more than she had.
    • I'm not that surprised, in just the little we've seen of her she's been a complete natural. Even better than a handful of the adults.
    • Moving on to bigger projects (ex-Rachel Black, DOOL) https://deadline.com/2025/05/little-house-on-the-prairie-laura-ingalls-cast-alice-halsey-1236383465/

    • I liked that Steffy told Liam that he should tell Hope about his tumor. As acrimonious as Steffy & Hope are to each other, I'm glad they don't use their kids as pawns.
