# 2676 (7/2/76):

In the powder room at Doug's Place, Trish tells Julie how wonderful it feels, to sing for her father and mother, tells her about Stanhope going to Jack's apartment, getting her out of a bad situation. Jack arrives at the bar, sees Jeri and Stanhope discuss his coming to Salem, what he plans to do. Marlena has gone to check her answering service. Julie joins Don. He tells her there are vibes with Marlena, maybe he's finally off the hook with her. He also tells her she should grow up: go after Doug. Julie says she wants to, but is not sure she can convince Doug she'll try to be a mother to Hope. In the family room, Doug, Rebecca and Robert discuss their plans for living together when the wedding is over. When Rebecca asks about Julie, Doug will only say it's now up to her. Marlena returns, has a few words with Julie, who then leaves. Marlena questions Don about Julie. We wonder if Marlena is getting interested in Don.

Trish dedicates a song to her father, and Stanhope is touched. Jack is touched, too, but in the wrong kind of way. He stops Jeri on her way to the powder room, starts to give her a bad time, but Doug steps in, threatens to throw him out. Trish and Stanhope discuss what his coming to Salem has meant to her. Mike enters, has another battle with Brooke, which is partially overheard by Jack, who misreads everything, getting the wrong impression. When Brooke goes back to work, Jack and Mike tangle. Jack threatens to teach both Trish and Jeri a lesson. Trish comes to the bar, is surprised to see Jack there, but he is very nice, leaves, and Trish and Mike are by themselves. Mike is still uptight about many things, especially that Trish told Brooke of his failure to perform. She apologizes, saying she needed someone, but knows once again she's hurt Mike badly.

Julie comes out of Hope's bedroom, Rebecca lays it on the line, says she has to stop this nonsense if she doesn't want to lose Doug, she can be a mother to Hope, but she has to make more of an effort. Doug approaches Trish and Mike and she asks for the rest of the night off, she's on an emotional binge, needs to be alone. Doug questions Mike when Trish leaves. Mike snaps that he and Trish have split and walks out. Don tells Doug about Kim not inheriting an island, letting him know if she lied about this, she could be lying about a few other things. If Doug wants Julie, he had better do something about it. Doug answers, saying it's his business and he's not about to apologize for his past. Trish goes home, unaware Jack is hovering outside in the corridor. As she undresses, the doorknob turns and twists.

I have been watching 1986 stuff and man Shane/Kim, Steve/Kayla, and John/Marlena are so hot together.  I can see why they hired Drake, Steven, Charles, etc.  RoJohn/Marlena literally make no sense but hot damn they are good together.  Bo/Hope are a total disconnect for me at this point.  I don't like them at all.  But I never have so I guess it's all relative.  Caroline/Victor are odd too.  They have chemistry, but I don't see Victor going for Caroline.  It's strange...  He seems too sophisticated for her I guess.  Anyway on to Stockholm and I am wondering why Britta is so into her brother lol.

1986 through the first half of 91. Were not boring. It's the second half of 91 through late 92. That were very boring. The tale of the 2 Roman's. Along with the Howard Hawkins mess. Went on forever. John being an Alamain. Danielle Stevens/Romulus were also terrible. Things get better with Izzy B dying of Pancreatic cancer. Stella Lombard's reign of terror on Marlena. Would have long term repercussions. With John and Marlena finally admitting their feelings for each other. Leading to Belle's conception on the Titan boardroom table.

I like the Stockholm stuff in 86 and 87.  The entire cast practically gets involved.  It does get a little wonky with Marlena dying multiple times, but that's a Deidre Hall scheduling thing.   I would agree the 1991/1992 were pretty boring and the Tale of 2 Romans starts awesome and then fizzles out horribly.  Marlena/Roman do nothing in 1992 and it's disappointing.  But once Marlena gets thrown in a pit things start moving quickly.

Lol.  Just saying the same thing.  Isabella's death and the pit is where it starts to get good again.  The jewel thief stuff is awful!  And the Tale of 2 Roman's starts so good, but then they end up in Mexico for what seems like an endless period of time.  I wonder if Ken or the writers ever look back and think they should have just kept John as Roman because I sort of think they should have.

Did Bart and Peter Blake ever interact? Tried asking Steve Blackwood (Bart) but he doesn't know.

Bart arrived in 1997 and Peter Blake was on Days until 1998.  I can't seem to find any evidence they ever interacted.

FROM THE VAULT: 45 YEARS AGO: MARLENA'S SEVENTH EPISODE: SLOW DOWN, DON!

# 2677 (7/5/76):

Don and Marlena come to Don's apartment after being at Doug's Place. They have some light fun as they try to get to know each other better, Don somewhat surprised at his attraction to Marlena. She is the only girl, other than Julie, who has really interested him in years. However, Marlena informs him he is coming on much too fast. As she heads for the bathroom, Julie arrives at Don's door. He is surprised and embarrassed to see Julie, knowing that Marlena is in the other room and should be right out. Julie needs a friendly shoulder to lean on. She can't face going to the Justice of the Peace's office. Don is shocked until Julie says that she and Doug and going with Robert and Rebecca, who will be married tonight. Then Julie's eyes light on Marlena's shoes, and Julie apologizes for interrupting Don's evening. After Julie leaves, Marlena very definitely tells Don she doesn't intend to be used to make Julie jealous by his pretending she and Don had a thing going.

Doug confronts Kim about her not owning an island, only a cottage. Kim expresses her surprise that Don told Doug because the lawyer loves Julie, with Doug saying not everyone operates the same way she does. Doug wants to know what else she has lied about. He's had it. He's going to Chicago to check whether she did really get a divorce or not. Meanwhile, Robert gives Rebecca a bridal bouquet, both aware that it won't be much of a wedding, but Robert says his love for her will be enough for both of them, he hopes. Julie and Doug arrive with Robert and Rebecca at the Justice of the Peace, and it is a bleak little office. The ceremony is routine and uninspired, but they exchange rings and are married. All four try to pretend things are not as drab as they seem. Later, in the family room at Doug's Place, the wedding party foursome try to pretend that all was wonderful. Finally, Rebecca says she's tired and goes to bed, with Robert saying he'll take a walk until Rebecca is asleep. After he leaves, Julie breaks down, devastated for Robert. Pretty rough way to start a honeymoon, Doug says. The relationship between Robert and Rebecca is something they can do nothing about.

Mike drops by Trish's on the pretext on thinking he left something there, but he is really there because he worries about Jack Clayton coming by, after having seen the man drunk at Doug's Place. As Doug's Place is closing, Stanhope and Jeri are still there talking. Jim says he's going to check Jeri into a room at his hotel. He's worried about Jack and thinks she shouldn't go back to him tonight. She can stay at the hotel until she finds a place of her own. Trish and Mike almost reach a new beginning when Brooke comes in. Mike says her timing is just great and slams out of the place. Brooke is upset that she interrupted, with Trish pretending she's glad she did. She doesn't need the scene of Mike trying to prove himself sexually with her. Brooke reminds her that if Trish doesn't try to help Mike, some other woman will. Later, Linda greets a subdued Mike who tells her he still hasn't found an apartment he can afford. Linda says he can stay at her place another night. Mike admits to Linda that he may have gone by Trish's with the idea of trying to be a man with her. Linda comforts him, telling him he'll find his manhood again when he finds love again. He loves Mickey and she hopes Mike will go visit him with her tomorrow. Jim brings Jeri to her hotel room, but he is a bit nervous. He wonders if she is worried about Jack, but she covers. After he leaves, she dials Trish and tells her if Jack comes around to keep the door locked and not to tell him where she is.

Random tidbit from 1968---mention of a poem recited by Susan Martin (Denise Alexander) in 1968 after the death of her son (the poem is about the death of a child).  Her son died in 1967, but the article is from 1968, so don't the circumstances of her reciting it in 1968.
