Well, I liked having Helen on, and the photo was honestly a nice touch. It's the whole... having two actors on in an otherwise clearly very empty house pretending there was a big family celebration.

 

I also feel like this would have felt better if it was Tom with Nancy. Despite the fact that Margo had been family for 26 years, she wasn't actually related to Nancy, which made the moment fall flat a little.

I thought it was nice that Nancy considered Margo a much of a Hughes as anyone else, and Margo kept her identity but still considered herself a Hughes. And then there is  problem that Scott Holmes couldnt display any warmth even with Wagner .

I'm glad to see some Marnie S. Love! I always liked her as allison and would love to see her back on daytime preferably Y&R

Speaking of Marnie, how is she doing? Any updates on her condition?

I think it was more MADD then anyone else..she LOVED her formula, which for her was to create a "super couple" (I hate that..) and break them up, make them up, break them up..etc.  Jeva, Manny, Ross and Blake..(before they got bored with them..) boring as hell.  I wish someone would write about the last days of P&G productions and Televest to show what really was going on. It was a constant string of missed opportunity (and a desperation to turn it into ABC Daytime; the fact is, ABC, CBS and NBC were different FOR A REASON)

I don’t think I have ever heard Rauch’s GL and that period of ATWT summed up so well.  I also started sampling/watching both in the late 1990’s, and this pretty much reminded me of why I also stopped a lot.

I was watching the episode where Kim finds out that the father of Barbara's baby Jennifer is Frannie's husband with Kathryn Hays giving an understated and satisfying performance, per usual. The episode was pretty entertaining, not sure whether I actually saw it when it originally aired. Hal's scenes with a betrayed Frannie, commiserating while explaining that he actually still loves Barbara. I even liked Andy's scenes with Courtney, that were obviously meant to obliquely reference some sort of foreshadowing of the inevitable crumbling of Daryl and Frannie's relationship due to lack of trust.

 

Even the scenes with Kirk, Ellie, Iva and John all seated at dinner were oddly amusing.  With Lucinda, out with Scott Eldridge stopping by their table, I couldn't help but chuckle at the grouping of couples, most of whom were all wrong for each other gathered at one table.

The relationship between Scott and Lucinda was intriguing. Was this some sort of attempt at a Lucinda/Craig retread or just an aspect of Lucinda's predilection towards younger men (there was a great scene in the late 80s where Sierra, with an air of disdain, mentions Lucinda with her "younger men"--of course, a dart at not only her dalliance with Craig but the assumption that Lucinda was having a "thing" with her masseuse, that Sierra saw as he was exiting Lucinda's budoir) or was it equal parts flirtation and getting "sticking it" to Scott's mother Lisa?

 

The scenes with Kirk cooing over baby Aaron and Iva's unborn baby were something to see. Ellie's reaction seemed to be indifference, if not exasperation. Ellie rightly asserts that Kirk knew that she didn't want children when they married. Those scenes made me wonder what Marland's commentary may have been on that marriage with scenes of Kirk so attentive to Iva's unborn baby with Iva seeming to enjoy the attention. John wasn't really in the room in that sequence (mostly out of frame), which struck me as interesting.

With all the construction noise on my street, I am having a hard time being productive so I decided to watch the GL reunion with Rick Hearst and Sonia Satra and Hearst mentioned doing a screen test for the role of Linc with Heather Rattray, who he complimented as a sweetheart that he got along with very well.

It'd be nice if some reunion show could have Rattray and Lucy Deakins.

Also, there needs to be a show with Lea Salonga and Ming-Na Wen.

Wow, I have absolutely no memory of that Blackthorn nonsense, and I too stuck it out to the end of the show. I have a very vague memory of feeling sorry for Stuart Damon having to play such a dumb character, but by that time, soap "stars" had to take what they could get. And if you had asked me yesterday what role Damon played on ATWT I would probably have thought it was a trick question.

 

Hated Lindstrom as Craig (though not as much as I hated Block in the role).  Hated McCouch as "Dusty Donovan" who shared a name but absolutely nothing else about that character.

 

Always loved Lisa and Lucinda's rivalry, which was certainly in play with Scott's friendship with La Walsh (or Ol' Lucy, as Lisa would call her). There was a fun scene I remember where Oakdale's two grande dames bonded over a recalcitrant hospital vending machine - everyone was at Memorial after some disaster (maybe the late 90s church fire, where Barbara was injured and miscarried baby Johnny?).

Whew, right there with you on that one!  Also, didn't help that the writing for these iterations of the character was just dreadful but I agree that the casting was wrong.

Something I appreciated, when the writing was actually good, was that characters could seemingly be bitter rivals, sniping at each other one moment and demonstrating empathy and understanding in a different moment.  Lisa and Lucinda did it when Lisa vowed to go after Lucinda with the Martin Guest mystery yet, didn't use it to hurt Lily, even when it would clearly be to Lisa's advantage to do so.  This happened with Barbara and Margo a few times also.

I loved when Lisa would call Lucinda "Lusty Lucy" lolll

Great clips!!! One thing they got right was that they wrapped up the Lucinda/Lily thing (realistically, you know that it would still continue on and off until Lucinda makes an overally dramatic exit from this life...) got Lucinda and John together..etc. The wrong part was it should have been Martha..we deserved that.

 

Love the Babs/Lucinda clip. I do like that they let Lucinda grow and mellow but she was still Lucinda and have can light a fire under someone's ass when needed.   I love the John line..."Well what did you think, we still have blood in our veins." If Gautman and the writers would have known that about the vets!

 

I do like the aspect of Lucinda and John reconciling but Lucinda giving over the reins to Worldwide to Lily just doesn't quite ring true to the character. I agree with @Mitchthough that realistically, there would be a back and forth on who is running the company.  I could see Lucinda, not meaning to undermine Lily but doing it nonetheless, until a struggle ensues over the direction of the company.  Honestly, the show should've kept Lucinda's eldest grandchild alive so that he could be groomed to take over (even as Lily runs the company), that would've caused some friction, but alas.
