Really happy that Michael Park was able to transcend being a "veteran soap star" and find great success on Broadway, and continues to be a consistent presence on streaming and TV shows. He posted this recap on Instagram of the past decade for him. Kudos to him for continuing to find work and diversifying his portfolio.

I found this in another video and clipped it - not sure if anyone knows the exact date besides June 1991. It's a fun promo, especially the emphasis on "shocked" and "thoroughly disgusted" from the voiceover guy.

LOL..I HATED that storyline...(God I hate Rex Smith..and he was too young to be in Margo's class and for Babs..) but that was typical ATWT...everyone reacting but too polite (except Babs) to say it out loud...I love the Kim and Bob faces.

I missed most of this storyline the first time around (too busy) but I've since gone back and watched several episodes online and I have to agree with you.  Also, I don't see what the fuss was about Rex Smith.  He seemed so bland to me in this storyline.  ATWT must've been really desperate for a leading man.  Perhaps had this storyline taken place in the late 70s, Smith might have fit the bill, especially as an alternative to characters like Brad Hollister.  In the early 90s though, I feel like it reflected badly on all the characters connected to this storyline, especially Frannie.

I wasnt a big fan of Helmet Hair Frannie..she and Helmet Hair Emily could have destroyed sets with all that fluff.

Yea, Smith was an odd choice, I could see him as a dippy pretty boy but this rich man in charge of things..no.  Wasnt this the storyline where the Nanny was inseminated or pregnant, and someone threw her off a balcony and you saw her obvious dummy body fly past Frannies window?

I do have to hand it to Lisa, to be polite in the best Marland Oakdalian way, but also bitchy..that is a talent!

I didn't mind Rex Smith - the show was full of pretty boy business types and I think they tended to suggest he got everything from a rich wife (Carolyn) anyway - but I think they did Frannie a disservice by having her rush into a relationship with him. I also think giving him a past with Connor and needing to make him Margo's friend and the baby with Barbara was all way too much. If the Interwebs had been more prominent in that period he probably would have been torn to shreds.

Especially when her ordeal with Doug Cummings should've taught her a lesson.  However, I chalked that up to Frannie's basic inability to choose the "right" man.

Years ago, I thought it would have been neat to reveal Darryl and Carolyn's daughter, Carrie, as baby Cabot's biological mom.  IIRC, we knew Jordan Sinclair was his father, but they never specified the identity of his mother.

I liked Melanie Smith's Emily. I preferred her interpretation of the character to all the rest.

Speaking of 1990s ATWT

the other day I watched an episode from 1990 and was reminded of how unnecessary a character Ellie Snyder was, IMO.

Despite the fact that I found Babette Rene Props to be cute and charismatic as an actress, Ellie just added to the glut of Snyder family members that many complain about. I wouldn't have minded if Props played a different character, returning Marcy Thompson or some other character-- they could've done almost all of the things with the Brock storyline that was done with Ellie just by having Marcy separated from her aristocratic husband and has a fling with Phillip Lombard, yadda yadda yadda and so on, without the weird-as* complication of having yet another Snyder woman involved in man-sharing. Overall, the character turned out to be a mere blip in the show's history, who, unlike Iva and Meg, only made a momentary impact on the show's overall history. She left and they never bothered to bring the character back.  On the positive side, Props was talented and Ellie was very much a walking talking 90s time capsule.

While I was digging into some historial newspapers for the Full Episode List, I found this fun excerpt in the March 11, 1984 edition of a paper called "The Journal"

Although it's only a regional pre-emption, that doesn't help my episodes project, I can't help but wonder about the "something big" that was happening on the show in the week of March 5-9, 1984, involving Craig Montgomery being forced to confront his evil ways.

Is this around the time he bombed Steve's truck?

She and Holden were supposed to have been close because they never felt like they fit in (Ellie sort of taking over some of Meg's old personality). I do think Ellie was a bit shoehorned in, but I thought Renee Props was a great actress and I thought her role in the story with Craig worked. The Kirk stuff was more of a mixed bag, as the "wacky" element was overplayed, but the business conflicts and their eventual split worked.

    • Thanks @Paul Raven . I love that she even drew up a petition. A shame she didn't get to finish out that storyline, although it seemed to become a mess anyway.
    • It's funny to think one of the only later mentions of Justin/Sarah was in The Guiding Plight. They had some decent chemistry in the 1976 episode put out on DVD.
    • Very. They're building up his story again and picking the perfect time to do so. As the SilkPress storyline climaxes and go off in several great directions, they are building up that story to take a turn.

    • @Soapsuds Thanks for posting Night by night Mon 8pm The Rookies edged Gunsmoke but attracted younger(more desirable) viewers.NBC failed with Born Free/Smothers Brothers (how many different series did those 2 get??) 9-11pm  Maude/Rhoda/Medical Center dominated on CBS,but Football and Movies were competitive on an occasional basis. ABC tried  SWAT/Caribe later in the season and the former worked for them. Tues 8-11 pm CBS all the way Good Times, MASH, Hawaii Five O,Barnaby Jones. NBC had the fading Adam 12,Movie and Police Story mmm...don't see that listed? ABC Happy Days, which ABC decided to keep despite lackluster ratings, the Movie of the Week and Marcus Welby-once pulling big numbers but no longer. 8pm NBC had a new hit with Little House, easily beating Sons and Daughters, which was axed and replaced with Tony Orlando, which did much better. ABC had That's My Mama and the Wed movie. 9pm Cannon was the lead here as Lucas Tanner failed to capitalize on the LHOTP leadin. ABC continued the movie. 10pm Manhunter started strong for CBS but petered out and was cancelled. Petrocelli manged to beat Get Christie Love, which was replaced by Baretta-no ratings winner but ABC decided to renew. Thurs Another CBS night with The Waltons and a movie. ABC counterprogrammed with Odd Couple/Paper Moon then Barney Miller/Karen NBC did even worse with Sierra and replaced it with Mac Davis which improved ratings quite a bit. However, it was moved to 9pm for Sunshine/Bob Crane 9pm Some good numbers for ABC with Streets of San Francisco fending off Ironside,Archer and Mac Davis. 10pm Harry O had a slim victory over Movin On Fri 8-11 NBCs best night Sanford/Chico/Rockford/Police Woman. 8pm CBS had high hopes for Planet of the Apes but it bombed. Replacement Khan did even worse. Paul Sand and We'll Get By were tossed in at the end of the season. With poor lead ins the Friday movie didn't deliver. ABC's odd line up saw Kodiak flop, Six Million dollar Man struggle and Texas Wheelers  quickly cancelled. Kung Fu was brought in @8 and Six Million moved to 9. Then Kolchak took over at 8 and Hot*l Baltimore/Odd Couple 9-10. Despite controversy Hot*l flopped. 10pm ABC tried Kolchak then Baretta and finally Get Christie Love Sat CBS lead  with #1 AITF then Paul Sand/MTM/Bob Newhart/Carol Burnett. Paul Sand lost too much of the lead in so CBS spun off The Jeffersons and it was a smash. NBC did OK with Emergency (which beat Paul Sand on occasion, thus hastening that show's demise) and a movie. ABC was a disaster with New Land/Kung Fu and Nakia all failing. They introduced a movie @9 and moved Kung Fu to 8. Sun  NBC  with Disney and Mystery Movie (Columbo McCloud, MacMillan and Wife/Amy Prentiss)did well. ABC flopped with Sonny Bono and recovered by moving Six Million Dollar Man from Fri as a lead in to the movie. CBS hoped Apples Way would be another Waltons but no, so Cher did what Sonny couldn't. Kojak and Mannix successfully finished out the night. Two other shows on the ratings list were Adams of Eagle Lake starring Andy Griffith. Only 2 episodes aired and did well, so I'm not sure what happened there. As for The Law it was a series follow up to a 2 and a half hour NBC special movie .

    • Trust is very easily lost and very hard to re-build.
    • Oh, I know it was. I was just talking about how it's not giving me parallels to Caroline dying. It's really as far from it as possible.  But about the foreshadowing - Hahahhahah. Yes. And you missed one - Liam googling - "what is cancer"...
