Members P.J.
Just saw that on my timeline too. Its sad he's been gone so long, but what a legacy. For my money, the best HW ever.
Members DramatistDreamer
He's my fave too. No one's perfect and even Marland had errors but when I look at the current crop by comparison, they make his errors look correct by contrast.
Members P.J.
Yeah, I can look back and see his faults a little clearer---for better or worse, he rarely cut stories that weren't working, he relied a lot on therapy and eavesdropping. Although I think he did balance the show fairly well, there were times the sturm and drang made Oakdale depressing. But he was the best at creating an immersive, connected community. He mined history for story and didn't rewrite it to his purpose. Writers today couldn't compare. But even among his peers, Doug was special, and I think they knew it.
Members mango
Bill is awesome on Mom. The banter between him and Allison Janney is spot on 👍
Members Soaplovers
Marland was talented, but wasn't my cup of tea... but I will say he was good at pacing and juggling multiple plotlines and characters.
Members juppiter
They had a spark in the beginning. The problem was when Jack lost his rough edges and became Officer Jesus. Then they were insufferable.
Members P.J.
Anyone help out identifying these cast members? I recognize the more obvious ones. Its mid70's (and from Judith Chapman's inclusion 75-78, from Suzanne Davidson's appearance I'd guess more 75-6 ish. ) https://mobile.twitter.com/cliffordjdm/status/992915872846098434/photo/1 Edited May 6, 2018 by P.J.

Members Paul Raven
That picture was posted way back in the thread and we solved the mystery of the line up. Heres what I have Front row: Alma(Lisa's mother), Joyce, Nancy, Chris, Carol, Jay, Natalie Standing Nurse Pat Holland, Mary Ellison, Grant, ? Kim, Bob, Valerie, ?, Betsy, Don, I think it is Sandy (Barbara Rucker) in the stripe top. No Lisa, Dan, Tom or John in that photo.
Members P.J.
Lol...thanks. Isn't that a very tan Marie Masters standing by Kathy Hays?
Members SoapDope
Dennis Cooney (Jay) looks funny in that pic. I can't believe viewers thought he was hot stuff. I saw a 1979 episode of Hollywood Squares and the female contestant told him that she always had a thing for him.
Members adrnyc
I saw it and have considered attending. It would be a hoot to see Eileen and Ilene in such an intimate venue; however, I'm afraid that hearing them sing at this point might not be one of the highlights of my life.
Members DramatistDreamer
Oops, lol @adrnyc I'd probably just try to catch her on her way to/from the theater (a la B'way) and subtly say "If I were writing for ATWT, I would've written a good storyline for you, especially for the end of the series, Eileen". Members adrnyc
@DramatistDreamer Ha! I wouldn't have even thought of that. Being a performer myself, my first instinct is that I should support the performer. If I could only get rid of the instinct, I'd see fewer mediocre/plain ol' bad performances.
