Wow I can't believe GL had a better last week, but it obviously got more press for being the first big soap cancellation in awhile and being the longest running show in history. ATWT just didn't have that.

It is going to be weird with only 6 soaps next week....

That's the thing. I believe whoever was going to watch the ending was already watching. I'm not at all surprised by the number either. IMPO, I believe the reason GL's numbers were higher, I think it had more sentimental value going for it. Again, JMO!

That sucks! I can't believe it wasnt better and they didnt even break the 2.0 mark.

Although the week before was a better week quality wise then this last week. There was way too much Janet and her nonsense family. The only big thing that happened was Jack and Carly's wedding. And ATWT wasnt even given half the press GL got.

I'm not surprised that GL did better than ATWT. GL's cancellation got significantly more press than ATWT's did. It was a major story on CNN when the cancellation notice first came down and an even bigger story the day it went off the air. A retrospective was even on the front page of the morning paper where I live the day the last episode of GL aired. There was nothing in the paper at all the day ATWT ended.

I wasn't following very closely but did ATWT get a primetime 60 Minutes segment the week of the final episode like GL did? Did it get a segment on CBS Sunday Morning like GL did? Were several cast members on The Early Show on Friday morning like some GLers were? All of those things really helped GL and if ATWT didn't get them they were at a distinct disadvantage in terms of beating GL's rating.

Plus, most of ATWT endings were known well in advance. There were all kinds of bogus, crazy rumors surrounding the end of GL and the fate of the show's biggest supercouple was in serious doubt right up until the end.

Affiliates had been dropping GL for quite a while before cancellation was announced. Its time slot varied from opposite Queen Oprah in some markets to opposite well-off afternoon soaps. Did any affiliates drop ATWT in the year or so before the cancellation announcement? It's amazing how GL was able to finish so well after everything that was done to make sure P&G/CBS "had" to cancel it.
