I have season 5 & 6 on DVD although in terrible quality from someone's VHS recordings from SoapNet but I've been wanting to watch Seasons 7-9 for years!

Sad. Julia was such a bizarrely written character, but Abby played her with a certain surreal class and absurdity that made the writing more coherent than it probably deserved to be.

Susan Sullivan and Jamie Rose left kind comments on Twitter.

Julia was a very popular/loved character.

I also loved Abby as the first Mrs. Barney Miller in the first pilot of that series (included on the complete series DVD set; she was replaced by Barbara Barrie when the show was picked up). She had tremendous chemistry with Hal Linden.

I wonder why they replaced her. The wife only lasted a few seasons anyway, didn't she?

I think the original plan was to have the show combine Barney's work and home lives, like Mary Tyler Moore and Bob Newhart's shows had done. When they found out in the first season that the home scenes just weren't working, they made the whole show about the 12th Precinct. Barbara Barrie made a few appearances over the years, but that was it.

Good clip - thanks for posting. Too bad Angela never broke out into a song & dance number.

Jane had a hit single a duet with Bing Crosby -  'In the Cool Cool Cool of the Evening' in 1952.

Maybe Angela could have done a duet with Babylonia.
