January 6, 20251 yr Member Lucy marrying a business man, either an ally or enemy to JR would have kept Lucy more involved.' Instead, we had some islanded scenes of her and Mitch's domestic dramas.
January 6, 20251 yr Member I mean, there were certainly ways to integrate Lucy into the show more, even better islanded plots would've been preferable. If they were going to go with the rich bored debutante story arc making muddling her way through life, there's a lot of story to be harvested from that. But I don't think they thought in the long-term what Lucy's role on the show would be. There's a lot to be said of what Falcon Crest became, but it does feel like Earl Hamner had a vision of what each character would bring to the show. That Vicky and the Nuñezes ended up not fitting into that once the show started going soapy is one thing, but everyone was sort of useful from the get-go. I'm not sure David Jacobs had the same sort of long-term vision for his shows and had to adjust eventually (see also Ginger and Kenny being useless on Knots Landing). It was clear that the ones with the actual power were the middle aged generation who were going to one day turn it over to their kids (who were just toddlers when the show started). So there was really no room for a bunch of young late teens / 20-somethings. Even if they had given JR and Swellin' a teenaged kid, it's obvious he wasn't going to turn over reigns of Ewing Oil for the next 25+ years if he had anything to do with it. An (im)perfect time, I guess, to remind everyone how I wish J.R. had discovered he had had a daughter with Vanessa Beaumont rather than a son (James Richard). Anyways. Back to FC. January 10, 20251 yr Member I am on episode 5. Is there a more on-the-nose soap name name than Lance Cumson? I love the old stone house. Jane Wyman as Angela is evil, but cooly logical and dispassionately evil. This is my favorite quote so far: "If you want to be a part of the land, you have to invest yourself in the land. And Chase has hardly lived here. He's been flying around airplanes and now he's come to earth in the wrong place." Everything se has done so far aligns perfectly with this rationale, however biased it may be. I'm trying to avoid spoilers but I know that Lana Turner and Gina Lollobrigida are going to turn up eventually which will be fun.
January 19, 20251 yr Member Interesting tidbit that there was actually supposed to be an additional Channing son in the show’s story bible that never made it to the screen: Timothy Channing was to be another son of Angie and Duncan (Douglas). Originally intended to be an editor at his father's newspaper, later character outlines meant him to be a San Francisco attorney and be groomed for political office there. In the course of the following episodes, he was to marry a San Francisco socialite, Geri Cook. Both characters were parts of the early script drafts, in particular for the party scene at Angie's Chateau, but did not make it to the final version of the predecessor. Both Timothy and Geri were completely erased from the show's bible when the predecessor was revamped into "Falcon Crest". I wonder where he would’ve fit in at? I can imagine him if he was working at the New Globe he would be feuding with Richard in S2 and being protective of Emma and Maggie. I also could see him be chummy with Chase much to Angela’s dismay but also have zero interest in the wine business because he’s more interested in journalism. Not sure about Geri…a supportive wife until she sleeps someone like Greg Reardon? Or Lance?

To be honest, it just sounds like they merged the Richard character that made the Vintage Years pilot and the Timothy character.

That’s probably what happened. I also read Gus had additional kids but never made it to the final cut either. 2 hours ago, Liberty City said: Finally jumping into Falcon Crest for the first-time ever. Wish me luck! Good luck I think you will like it! It’s become my 2nd favorite primetime soap after Knots.

I still remember when Jane Wyman said, "I thought it was a little ridiculous [Lana Turner] needed a limo to go to the loo." I think all Liz Taylor wanted when she was on GH was a hamburger (and Tony Geary and Tristan Rogers' d*cks). But seriously. Wyman was a real trouper to wear that hideous-looking coat. She sacrificed a lot, including her own happiness, because she truly believed in her grandfather's vision for Falcon Crest. That's what I loved about her, and why I think she was a far more interesting antagonist than Alexis Colby or J.R. Ewing. Because, even though she did some despicable things, WHY she did them was something I could relate to on some level.
