Well... I watched today (Not yesterday) and today wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. Lane was barf-worthy of course, but that's to be expected. Doug gave wonderful performances today, as well as Haiduk. Beth looked WONDERFUL, as well as Eileen.. and I even liked the dress that Hendrickson had on. Someone finally picked out some decent clothing. My only problem was with the last scene. that "zoom" shot with the fish-eye lens was supposed to be "scary", but it looked CHEESY. Right before Patty stepped into the sancutary, they needed to have Patty have a flashback to the first wedding with Jack (There are scenes where only Lilibet Stern and Brett Hadley was shown, and not Terry Lester) and then have the classic dramatic music cue, with a scream overdub, and just show a normal shot of Haiduk. Use the MUSIC CUES to create the drama, not a cheesy camera lens. I guess Daytime fan really doesn't like Muhney! Well... I wouldn't go so far as to say he's ugly.. he DOES look much improved after gaining some weight, but if there is ANYONE on this planet that is in more DESPERATE need of bangs, I'd like you to show them to me. And I'm gonna bring this up, it may sound odd... but his nipples looked a bit "strange", too light? no body makeup on them? the stupid lighting? I can't put my finger on it. But in those bedroom scenes with Sharon and Adam, could they have HAD the key lights any brighter? For the love of God, this is a soap opera, not an episode of the Electric company.

It's that his nipples are lighter than his skin.

Patty used a bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide. Which, first of all, how the hell did they allow her to have a bottle of that in a PADDED CELL?! Also, does that even dye someone's hair that blonde, that fast?

Also, I've used peroxide for cuts and the like and the stuff has a very distinctive smell. If Emily denied being Patty, wouldn't they be able to tell by the smell of her hair?

It's like they aren't even trying to be consistent anymore. But it's not surprising. I can't wait till the viewers get fed up and stop watching this nonsense they're being fed. Even old folks have their limit.

This is a soap where a fetus' body was burned in a living fireplace and no one noticed an odd smell, the blood didn't leave a trace, and Ashley's body had no tell-tale sign of having given birth.

Given the fact that Patty took Emily's place before, you'd expect a fingerprint check, DNA on file, a video camera to record Patty's movements keeping an eye on Emily, a guard watching through a window the entire time, etc... Nah... details are for fancy folks. We're just soap fans.

Is Megan McTavish ghost writing?

What's this Y&R everyone keeps discussing? Y&R as far as I know was canceled on Friday May 15, 2009. Shouldn't Y&R be moved to the cancelled soaps thread?

Why May 15, 2009? What happened on that particular day?

Why May 15, 2009? What happened on that particular day?

I tried to figure it out, and I still can't. But here is the recap: (This episode aired 5/14 in Canada, and 5/15 in the US).

Cane and Lily get ready for their wedding. Colleen asks Lily how excited is she right now. Nina, Mac, Kay and Murphy arrive at the church early. Mac lets everyone know that Billy is coming to the wedding. Billy is impressed with the wedding/anniversary of “Restless Style.” Chloe can’t believe that she and Billy were invited to Cane and Lily’s wedding. Jill arrives for the wedding. Ashley thanks Victor for last night. Adam practices his French through the computer and plans out his next attack on Ashley. A man arrives from the laundry service and hands Victor a tape recorder that Estella had left in her jacket pocket. Ashley hears the baby cry and confronts Victor about it. Ashley declares that Estella had been behind this all along. Victor can’t seem to want to believe that this was Estella’s doing.

Cane and Lily marry. Adam interrupts Ashley and Victor. Victor confronts Estella about the tape. Estella denies her involvment as usual. Victor fires Estella, but she declares that these things that are happening will not stop just because Estella is out of the house. Ashley receives a call, supposedly, from Sabrina, who declares that death is imminent. Ashley begs to know who this is and begs Estella to stop. Victor comes in during Ashley’s panic attack. Ashley tells them that she has to get out of here. Cane and Lily prepare to go on their honeymoon.

Reading this, I'm about 90% sure, since this was May sweeps, that we saw the debut of the still-alive (P3) at the end of that episode. Thus, with Y&R's first bona-fide "back from the dead" story (Both Victor and Kay have done back from the dead, but the audience knew both were never dead), I'm guessing that marked a death-knell.

Let's face it, especially given how the story played out, it was a pretty unnecessary horrible twist.

Indeed, with that recap as a clue, here is what wikipedia confirms:

On May 15, 2009, Bierdz appeared as the mysterious character "Langley." "Langley" is revealed to actually be Philip III, the real son of Jill and heir to the Chancellor fortune. Phillip has been alive for the past 20 years and had faked his death after the drunk driving accident in 1989. In another revealing twist, Phillip returns to Genoa City and explains to Nina that the reason he left all those years ago is because he was gay and felt back then he would not have been accepted.

For me it would be the day Sheffer and Rauch were announced as coming to the show. I froze up for a second when I heard the news.

Yep that's all what occurred on the 15th of May, 2009. Not only did one of the worst couples in Y&R history happen to get married that day, but the worst storyline in ALL of Y&R history began that day. Y&R had brought other characters back from the dead before (ie, Sheila, Malcolm) but nothing as bad as this or how this was horrifyingly horribly rewritten.

Oh, come ON! There was nothing worse than Phelia, and you KNOW it!

Pheila was bad, but at least that story wrapped up and wasn't ignored completely as it was phased out.

Phillip came back from the dead to be backburner for like 6 months before he was written off. And in that time, his son came back, and very rarely was he developed as a character, or their father/son relationship.

Phillip should have never been brought back in the first place, you don't mess with one of the most iconic moments in Y&R history. However, if you're going to tell that story, make sure you actually do and play it for all it's worth, this hack and awful writing team chose to do NOTHING with it. So in the end, what f.uck was the point of doing this story? Cane could have easily been exposed as a fraud without bringing Phillip back from the dead. It seems like the only intent of this story was the tell everyone how good Cane is and how we should just look past everything regarding him. It was AWFUL propping of a useless character that will never fit in on this show.

Phillip's return from the dead and the way it was handled left a far more damaging mark on Y&R, its integrity as a show, and its history than the Pheila story ever could.

Am I the only person rooting for Patty, hoping she can pull this off? Emily was a bitch and medically unethical for playing with Jack. Also, I just really like insane Patty Williams. I want her to pull this off, live her life as Emily, and live happily ever after with Jack. I want viewers just to get used to it, adjust. It can be our little secret (all of us and Patty) and no one in Genoa City (especially Jack) needs to know. I think, in a very sick way, there can be a happy ending for Jack and Patty...I mean Emily!

BTW, where is Mary Williams...was this ever explained? I always liked that mean old bat!

I recall one mention of Mary between Paul and Todd along the lines that revealing all the Patty stuff would be too much for her.It was intimated that she was not super well.

Doug Davidson said that Carolyn Conwell was approached to return but she was not in the best of health and didn't want to.

It's not so much that I'm rooting against Patty as I don't have a reason to root for her. She is just a generic crazy woman.

Yeah, for me she's just done too much damage to feel that bad for her. On the other side of the coin, I also don't have a lot of reason to root for Jack and Emily though. I can't really take their love seriously since it happened in a matter of a couple of weeks. I have no earthly idea why these two love each other. Frankly, the show has given me more reason to believe in Lane than it has in this pairing. The only person I'm rooting for in this mess is Paul.

I do suspect that Patty is going to manage to trick Jack into getting her pregnant though, which will actually be the second time she's raped him, not that I expect Y&R to acknowledge it.
