HBO: Game of Thrones

I think they've been extremely inclusive and forward-thinking of late and in their upcoming film slate, but I think acting shocked that Doctor Strange and Iron Fist are still white, or that Marvel is actually using Peter Parker before Miles Morales after years of waiting to get their hands on Spider-Man is just asking to be angry for anger's sake.

I thought it was most likely because of their snafu last season where they leaked 4 episodes with their HBO GO launch.

I think by now everyone knows that Jon Snow isn't dead (or at least he isn't going to stay that way).

That trailer reminded me that last year I saw a great film, Force Majeure, that starred Kristofer Hivju (Tormund Giantbane). It took me awhile when watching the film to place where I had previously seen him. When it clicked, it was so strange seeing him in street clothes, and looking pretty hot as a result. Watching the upcoming season and contrasting both images of him is going to be strange, nonetheless. Still, go watch the film everyone.

I've been meaning to sit down and watch Force Majeure for a year - soon.

I didn't care for the cover which I know will drive Carl up the wall, but it looks fun for the most part. I'm glad to see Davos still in the thick of it. I hope Margaery doesn't get converted. And I'm always Team Bran.

It's so typical of the current trend of emo covers of classic pop tunes - and another example of why GoT will likely end up as dated as the Hunger Games movies quickly became - but it wasn't that bad until that godawful nasal singing. I guess at least they didn't reuse that heinous "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" cover that was on the episode where Jaime lost a hand.

My thoughts as follows:

- How much was the budget cut if they still have to use a Carol Brady wig for Cersei

- At least they showed Theon

- At least they showed one scene of Melisandre with her clothes on

- Oh yay, Arya and Tyrion.

I'm started to get really excited about the new season. It looks like the Khal who found Dani is taking her back to the Dosh Khaleen. Pretty sure I saw a glimpse of the horse statue from Vaes Dothrak.   Also looked like Jorah found something of Dani's, so he's probably tracking her.

The voice over that says "He is dead" must be in reference to Stannis. Interesting to see the Red Woman losing faith. Like Skin, I'm assuming that Jon will come back to life. I figured it would be Melisandre who would bring him back, but now I wonder if it happens another way.

    • There has been some confusion about Michael & facial burns. Please see this post: https://bsky.app/profile/shallotpeel.bsky.social/post/3lqkrryu54226 I've chosen to put this here instead of the Classic Thread because it is now with the appearance of recast Michael that this has come up. Different places online, including at least one podcast, remarks have been made about how remarkable it is that he is without facial scarring. Other fans say it was clear from the first that he did not have facial burns. What is included in this post is 2 screengrabs where you can see his face at the hospital & a very quick edit of that day in the hospital.
    • Put me in the LOVE KMH camp. As a poster alluded to above, her detractors seem to come from people who first experienced the 80s Emily actress. And that's often the case with soaps, myself included. I enjoy the original actor so much that I just never take to the recast. However, KMH played Emily far longer than the original - for almost 20 years - and when she had great material, she was great. I get the sense she didn't like playing the whiny oh-woe-is-me Emily which was all the material she got from about 1996 until she took over the Intruder in late '99/early '00 and got to play a stronger kiss-ass woman who didn't care what anyone thought of her. (Some would call that a bitch but, if a man was in that role, he'd just be called a smart and savvy businessman.) Her relationship with Hal was great. The transformation was done realistically and I thoroughly enjoyed those years the best out of all. Once the writers decided to break up those two, they went back to writing Emily half the time as whiny and pathetic. I preferred when the writers made her stronger.
    • Hahaha - I do. I've always been the type, though, that can't miss anything. I get FOMO, so I'll not skip episodes or fast forward anything. There are only a few TV shows I've dropped because they got so bad vs. sticking it out to the end.  The promise that GL 1997 is better is what keeps me going. I especially want to see the fallout of Blake's lie about her twins and then Annie's descent which I believe won Watros's Emmy.
    • Rita's rape is an episode i constantly search on YouTube hoping one day that it will show up. I always feel like I may have seen it, but I was only 6 at the time and can never figure any of the things I have vague recollection of
