You're right.  I too wish he would ask more serious questions, but he wants these to be reunions, so things need to be kept rather light.  It can be frustrating, but I completely understand why he gives them soft-ball questions. The responses to some serious queries might embarrass others in the reunion, or make them feel uncomfortable.  The last thing Alan wants in a reunion is for someone to regret their decision to participate.  If we want more serious questions that might get into criticizing others, trouble in the studio, or conflicts with co-workers, he probably needs to do that in one-on-one interviews.  And I don't know if he has any interest in doing that.

So before we criticize his interviewing skill too much, we need to think about his fundamental reason for holding them.  And I don't think it's to dig up dirt.

Thank you. He's not Barbara Walters, he's a moderator just trying to get these actors to reminisce not trash producers or writers. If they happen to while talking about the past that's on them but I don't expect him to pull it out of them.

Carmen vs Vanessa was promising..but didn't amount to much.  Carmen was the coyote and Michelle was the road runner....and it was rinse, lather, and repeat.

Even Saundra mentioned that she felt Carmen was too one dimensional, she got tired of bullying Michelle all the time, and that she wanted Carmen to have a romantic storyline. I remember Carmen having a brief flirtation with Edmund, but what if she married Alan, tried to go straight and gain the acceptance of Springfield society? Carmen was never properly integrated into the cast, and we never saw any vulnerable sides to her character. There was so much potential in Ray, Maria, and Pilar as well that was never realized because of the cartoony nature of the mob stories. I remember SS saying in an interview years ago that she and Miriam Colon never got to have a real showdown over Carmen killing her son.

I liked the Santos family at first but by the time JL left they had run their course. The mob storylines weren't right for GL, if the Santoses were to ever be a major family of GL they needed to get rid of the organized crime element. Same with the Winslows and the San Cristobel storylines which were running at the same time as the mob storylines. It just didn't fit, and gave GL an identity crisis which it briefly recovered from in 2002.

They always should have made the remaining Santos mob adjacent.  Have Daddy Santos be a small time hood enforcer for a mob. Carmen's secret backstory is that she was forced into prostitution and married Santos to get out.  The first Santos that was killed was their son but Danny is really the son of Gus's dad a cop, that Daddy Santos then killed, and then attacking Carmen she kills him. After that..she tries to be legitimate but her shady ways get in the way. This gives Carmen some rootability and extends Gus out of just Harley and keeps him from the brain dead "Hes Alans' son!"  I really like SS but man, the  ridiculous mob boss in a pastel suit Cruella Deville worked against her and the show every time, and sweet PAS never worked as a mobster in training. The Winslows just sucked.

Gus was supposed to be the son of Selena and Miguel, Sr.  The storyline was stupidly changed. Patti D’Arbanville was fired. Miguel, Jr. was alive and...elsewhere. Selena had always known his whereabouts. (This child was never mentioned during Selena’s search for the other child she gave up, Drew.)

Gus vs. Danny. Half-brothers. Perfect and soapy.

Instead, we get Alan and a nun. Ugh.  Gus did NOT need to be a Spaulding.

He’d get more clicks though if he had more balls.

He's really doing a great job.  I'm so glad he's been doing this.  He knows what he's talking about and he respects the genre.

He respects the clicks. He’s a lousy interviewer.

MADD just loved her forumla and Manny were one of them, despite them not working after the recast. Would have loved to see Danny with a renewed hardscrabble Cassie..and think it would be hilarious to see Carmen threaten a scowling screeching Cassie.

All things considered, I think they would've been better off just sending Danny and Michelle into the Federal Witness Relocation Program.  Then, down the road, if they wanted to bring back Michelle (with a recast), they could explain how the mob found and killed Danny, thus giving nuMichelle a reason to come out of hiding and come back to Springfield (namely, to avenge her husband's death).

Going back to another era

December 1970 Stanley Norris (William Smithers) and Leslie Jackson Bauer (Lynne Adams)

What was the reason Leslie married Stanley?

I wonder if Smithers was considered  a bit of a 'get' at the time -an established primetime actor.

How long was he on before being murdered? Maybe it was a fairly short term role which is why Smithers agreed to daytime?

Smithers was on for a year. As stated in his Who's Who bio on Soap Opera Central. com.  Awesome pic would love to see this era of GL. Stanley was a nasty piece of work. Here's his bio. Which is a very interesting  read.         https://www.soapcentral.com/gl/whoswho/stanley.php

That bio was quite detailed. I have read that some details of Soap Centrals GL summaries have been questioned as to whether they actually occurred as there is little info of that time period to go by.

In this instance I wonder whether CBS and P&G would allow an interacial affair (Stanley and Deborah)?

Deborah Mehren AND her mother, Leona Herbert?

This isn’t referenced in ANY soap history books.

Me thinks someone had a very fun time writing this fanfic.

SoapCentral is, quite simply, often wrong.

I had no idea that Deborah was a AA woman. Very envelope pushing for that time.  Since P&G was know for being very conservative. Makes wonder if this ever took place. Here's a pic of the late Olivia Cole as Deborah Mehern.

I found some info on the character.

Olivia Cole portrayed Deborah Mehran, Janet Mason Norris’ best friend and secretary to Dr. Sarah McIntyre,
